This paper introduces a high-performance speed control system based on artificial neural networks(ANN) to estimate unknown parameters of a DC servo motor. The goal of this research is to keep the rotor speed of the DC servo motor to follow an arbitrary selected trajectory. In detail, the aim is to obtain accurate trajectory control of the speed, specially when the motor and load parameters are unknown. By using an artificial neural network, we can acquire unknown nonlinear dynamics of the motor and the load. A trained neural network identifier combined with a reference model can be used to achieve the trajectory control. The performance of the identification and the control algorithm are evaluated through the simulation and experiment of nonlinear dynamics of the motor and the load using a typical DC servo motor model.

This paper proposes a new nonlinear adaptive guidance law. Fourth order state equation for integrated guidance and control loop is formulated considering target uncertainties and control loop dynamics. The state equation is further changed into the normal form by nonlinear coordinate transformation. An adaptive nonlinear guidance law is proposed to compensate for the uncertainties In both target acceleration and control loop dynamics. The proposed law adopts the sliding mode control approach with adaptation fer unknown bound of uncertainties. The present approach can effectively solve the existing guidance problem of target maneuver and the limited performance of control loop. We provide the stability analyses and demonstrate the effectiveness of our scheme through simulations.

Since the dynamics of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are highly nonlinear and their hydrodynamic coefficients vary with different vehicle's operating conditions, high performance control systems of AUVs are needed to have the capacities of teaming and adapting to the variations of the vehicle's dynamics. In this paper, a linearly parameterized neural network (LPNN) is used to approximate the uncertainties of the vehicle dynamics, where the basis function vector of the network is constructed according to the vehicle's physical properties. The network's reconstruction errors and the disturbances in the vehicle dynamics are assumed be bounded although the bound may be unknown. To attenuate this unknown bounded uncertainty, a certain estimation scheme for this unknown bound is introduced combined with a sliding mode scheme. The proposed controller is proven to guarantee that all signals in the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB). Numerical simulation studies are performed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

This paper proposes the alternative observer and controller design scheme based on T-S fuzzy model. Nonlinear systems are represented by fuzzy models since fuzzy logic systems are universal approximators. In order to estimate the unmeasurable states of a given unknown nonlinear system, T-S fuzzy modeling method is applied to get the dynamics of an observation system. T-S fuzzy system uses the linear combination of the input state variables and the modeling applications of them to various kinds of nonlinear systems can be found. The proposed indirect adaptive fuzzy observer based on T-S fuzzy model can cope with not only unknown states but also unknown parameters. The proposed controller is based on a simple output feedback method. Therefore, it solves the singularity problem, without any additional algorithm, which occurs in the inverse dynamics based on the feedback linearization method. The adaptive fuzzy scheme estimates the parameters and the feedback gain comprising the fuzzy model representing the observation system. In the process of deriving adaptive law, the Lyapunov theory and Lipchitz condition are used. To show the performance of the proposed observer and controller, they are applied to an inverted pendulum on a cart.

This paper presents the design methodology of an unknown input observer for Lipschitz nonlinear systems with unknown inputs in the framework of convex optimization. We use an unknown input observer (UIO) to consider both nonlinearity and disturbance. By deriving a sufficient condition for exponential stability in the linear matrix inequality (LMI) form, existence of a stabilizing observer gain matrix of UIO will be assured by checking whether the quadratic stability margin of the error dynamics is greater than the Lipschitz constant or not. If quadratic stability margin is less than a Lipschitz constant, the coordinate transformation may be used to reduce the Lipschitz constant in the new coordinates. Furthermore, to reduce the maximum singular value of the observer gain matrix elements, an object function to minimize it will be optimally designed by modifying its magnitude so that amplification of sensor measurement noise is minimized via multi-objective optimization algorithm. The performance of UIO is compared to a nonlinear observer (Luenberger-like) with an application to a flexible joint robot system considering a change of load and disturbance. Finally, it is validated via simulations that the estimated angular position and velocity provide true values even in the presence of unknown inputs.
After a disaster like the catastrophic earthquake, the government have to use rapid assessment of the condition (or damage) of bridges, buildings and other infrastructures is mandatory for rapid feedbacks, rescue and post-event management. This work studies the tracking control problem of a class of strict-feedback nonlinear systems with input saturation nonlinearity. Under the framework of dynamic surface control design, RBF neural networks are introduced to approximate the unknown nonlinear dynamics. In order to address the impact of input saturation nonlinearity in the system, an auxiliary control system is constructed, and by introducing a class of first-order low-pass filters, the problems of large computation and computational explosion caused by repeated differentiation are effectively solved. In response to unknown parameters, corresponding adaptive updating control laws are designed. The goals of this paper are towards access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services, promotion of inclusive and sustainable urbanization and participation, implementation of sustainable and disaster-resilient buildings, sustainable human settlement planning and manage. Simulation results of linear and nonlinear structures show that the proposed method is able to identify structural parameters and their changes due to damage and unknown excitations. Therefore, the goal is believed to achieved in the near future by the ongoing development of AI and control theory.

In this paper, the problem of designing an adaptive observer for a class of nonlinear systems with linear unknown parameters is studied. The nonlinear system to be considered consists of two blocks, only one of which has measurable states. Assuming the minimum-phase property of the error dynamics obtained after a change of coordinates and imposing some conditions on the functions multiplied by unknown parameters, an adaptive observer is constructed using an existing observer design method.

This paper presents a neural network adaptive controller for autonomous diving control of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) using adaptive backstepping method. In general, the dynamics of underwater robotics vehicles (URVs) are highly nonlinear and the hydrodynamic coefficients of vehicles are difficult to be accurately determined a priori because of variations of these coefficients with different operating conditions. In this paper, the smooth unknown dynamics of a vehicle is approximated by a neural network, and the remaining unstructured uncertainties, such as disturbances and unmodeled dynamics, are assumed to be unbounded, although they still satisfy certain growth conditions characterized by 'bounding functions' composed of known functions multiplied by unknown constants. Under certain relaxed assumptions pertaining to the control gain functions, the proposed control scheme can guarantee that all the signals in the closed-loop system satisfy to be uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB). Simulation studies are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, and some practical features of the control laws are also discussed.

This paper proposes a robust adaptive fuzzy tracking control scheme for a nonholonomic mobile robot with external disturbances as well as parameter uncertainties in the robot kinematics, the robot dynamics, and the actuator dynamics. In modeling a mobile robot, the actuator dynamics is integrated with the robot kinematics and dynamics so that the actuator input voltages are the control inputs. The presented controller is designed based on a FBFN (Fuzzy Basis Function Network) to approximate an unknown nonlinear dynamic function with the uncertainties, and a robust adaptive input to overcome the uncertainties. When the controller is designed, the different parameters for two actuator models in the actuator dynamics are taken into account. The proposed control scheme does not require the kinematic and dynamic parameters of the robot and actuators accurately. It can also alleviate the input chattering and overcome the unknown friction force. The stability of the closed-loop control system including the kinematic control system is guaranteed by using the Lyapunov stability theory and the presented adaptive laws. The validity and robustness of the proposed control scheme are shown through a computer simulation.

This paper proposes an intelligent controller for brushless DC motor and load with unknown nonlinear dynamics. The proposed intelligent control system consists of a plant identifier and PID controller with varying gains. The identifier is constructed using an Auto Regressive Moving Average (ARMA) model. In order to tune the parameters of the identifier and the gains of the PID controller efficiently, e also propose a modified Evolution Strategy. Experimental results show that the proposed intelligent controller for brushless DC motor has good control performance under unknown disturbance.
