  • The roof grid of single-layer space frame structure, for Energy Core of Incheon Airport Second Terminal, is very simple and aesthetic, but it is apt to buckle under external force because of mild curvature and complex shape. The object of this study is to estimate the stability of single-layer space frame structures for Energy Core of Incheon Airport Second Terminal with the analytical conditions of structural design. The results show that the buckling load of model(pin-pin, uniform load, rigid joint), that is, the most similar model to the analytical conditions of structural design. was $10.7kN/m^2$.

  • In highly stressed machine elements such as angular contact ball bearings and toroidal type traction drives, the elastohydrodynamic lubrication of elliptical contacts with both rolling and spinning motion are occur. In this paper, a finite difference method with non-uniform grid systems and the Newton-Raphson method are applied to solve the problems. Pressure distributions, film contours and variations of the minimum and central film thicknesses are compared with various ellipticity parameter, dimensionless speed and load parameter. The results showed that the spinning motion has significant influence especially on the film shapes. Reduction of the minimum film thickness under spinning is remarkable whereas the central film thickness is relatively less. Especially variations of the minimum film thicknesses with rolling velocity, load and ellipticity ratio are a great different from those of pure rolling. Therefore present numerical scheme can be used in the analysis of general elliptical contact EHL problems and further studies are required.

  • Under two level block loading, the carbornitrizing specimen can be expected to show different behavior from other uniform material because the properties of surface layer and inner material are different from each other. In this research, the modified Marco-Starkey cumulative theory, which considers load interaction effect, can predict the life of SCM415 carbornitrizing and original notched and smooth specimen, In the low-high test of carbornitrizing specimen which has long life, however, we may additionally consider the increase of life by means of the stress hardening of inner original material.

  • In the paper, we have proposed a new technique to detemine the initial billet for the forged products using a function approximation in neural network. A three-layer neural network is used and a back propagation algorithm is employed totrain the network. An optimal billet which satisfied the forming limitation, minimum of incomplete filling in the die cavity, load and energyas well as more uniform distribution of effective strain, is determined by applying the ability of function approximation of te neural network. The amount of incomplete filling in the die, load and forming energyas well as effective strain are measured by the rigid-plastic finite element method. The new technique is applied tofind the optimal billet size for the axisymmetric rib-web product in hot forging. This would reduce the number of finite element simulation for determing the optimal billet of forging products, further it is usefully adapted to physical modeling for the forging design.

  • The roof-top of deteriorated building is necessary to improve that performance of waterproof and heat insulation is lowered. However, the existing method is difficult to supply due to complicated process and high cost. Therefore, practical condition and demand for occupant considered, it is necessary to develop inexpensive and easy method, such as a floating floor method using thermal insulation. This study is experiments on foundational experiment was conducted on the bending strength. A polyurethane board for experiment forms a square and it has various size that 25cm, 33cm, 50cm, and 100cm. Meanwhile, the uniform load of 200kg/㎡ which general working load is applied to the bending strength.

  • The energy expressions are formulated for the axially stiffened shell treating the stiffeners as discrete elements. The principle of minimum potential energy is employed to formulate the buckling equations for a simply supported, axially stiffened shell under uniform axial compression. The displacement functions are expended into double trigonometric series. The mode assuming method employed in this paper makes it possible to reduce the matrix size of the eigenvalue problem considerably. Effects are made to investigate the transition from overall buckling to local buckling and to verify the existence of the minimum stiffness ratio of stiffener as in the case of stiffened plate. The results of the calculation show that the critical stiffener size increase linearly as the length of the shell increases. The results also show that the overall buckling load decreases and the local buckling load has a nearly constant value as the length of the shell increases. The results show very good agreements with other computational available.

  • In this paper we investigated an applicability of earthquake regulations for seismic-isolated building structures which has been used currently and propose an efficient method for vertical distribution of seismic loads. The distribution of force is revised in UBC-94 as vertical distribution of force of UBC(Uniform Building Code)-91 is not sufficient safety but its distribution is inefficient expensive because of similar expression to fixed-based structures. In order to overcome this difficulties improved vertical distribution to fixed-based structures. In order to overcome this difficulties improved vertical distribution of seismic load is proposed using two degrees-of-freedom isolated structures and mode shape of fixed-based structures. Efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method are verified through analysis of an example structures with moment resisting frame and shear walls so this study approximate to dynamic analysis results in each case.

  • This research is aimed to evaluate the effects of repair conditions, axial load intensities and the enlargement of cross sections after strengthening with steel plate and on the structural behavior of the reinforced concrete columns subjected to axial and lateral loadings. 6 columns were tested under uniform axial compression and concentrated load at the midspan until failiure occurs. As test results, It has been found that the amount of grout bar and the condition of strengthening significantly affect the behavior or reinforced concrete column with steel plate and grout 4 bar (C-G4S2 serise) and enlarged reinforced concrete column with steel plate and grout 8 bar (C-G8S2 serise) are increased to 1000% and 1200% in comparison of those of unstrengthened reinforced concrete columns, respectively

  • In this research, buckling and free vibration of rectangular polymeric laminate reinforced by graphene sheets are investigated. Various patterns are considered for augmentation of each laminate. Critical buckling load is evaluated for different parameters, including boundary conditions, reinforcement pattern, loading regime, and laminate geometric states. Furthermore, vibration analysis is investigated for square laminate. Elastic properties of the composite are calculated using a combination of both molecular dynamics (MD) and the rule of mixture (MR). Kinematics of the plate is approximated based on the first shear deformation theory (FSDT). The current analysis is performed based on the energy method. For the numerical investigation, Ritz method is applied, and for shape functions, Chebyshev polynomials are utilized. It is found that the number of layers is effective on the buckling load and natural frequency of laminates which made from non-uniform layers.

  • The aim of this work is to establish the coefficient that defines the critical buckling load for isotropic annular plates of variable thickness whose outer boundary is simply supported and subjected to uniform pressure. It is assumed that the plate thickness varies in a continuous way, according to an exponential law. The eigenvalues are determined using an optimized Rayleigh-Ritz method with polynomial coordinate functions which identically satisfy the boundary conditions at the outer edge. Good engineering agreement is shown to exist between the obtained results and buckling parameters presented in the technical literature.
