  • The merit function arises from the development of the solution methods for the complementarity problems defined over the cone of non negative real vectors and has been well extended to the complementarity problems defined over the symmetric cones. In this paper, we focus on the extension of the merit functions including the gap function, the regularized gap function, the implicit Lagrangian and others to the complementarity problems defined over the nonsymmetric matrix cone. These theoretical results of this paper suggest new solution methods based on unconstrained and/or simply constrained methods to solve the matrix cone complementarity problems (MCCP).

  • In this paper, we propose a new motion control technology to design robust control system of industrial robot. The system modeling of robotic manipulation tasks with constraints is presented, and the control architecture for unconstrained and constrained motion system with parametric uncertainties is synthesized. The optimal reference of robot manipulator is generated by the reference controller as a discrete state system and the control behavior of constrained system which has poor modeling information and time-invariant constraint function is improved motion control system is successfully evaluated by experiment to the desired tasks.

  • Periodic replacement model with minimal repair at failure is extended to the case where quantity purchases are possible. A recursive relationship among replacement intervals is obtained, which shows that replacement intervals are an increasing sequence due to the inventory carrying cost. Using the relationship, a procedure is given for determining how many units to purchase on each order and when to replace each unit after it has begun operating so as to minimize the total cost per unit time over an infinite time span. The problem can be simplified if equal replacement intervals are assumed, and the solution is very close to the solution of the unconstrained problem.

  • This paper proposes a compliance control strategy for the robot manipulators accidentally interact-ing with an unknown environment. In this proposed method each in the diagonal stiffness matrix corre-sponding to the task coordinate in a Cartesian space is adaptively adjusted during contact along the corresponding axis based on the contact force with its environment. This method can be used for both unconstrained and constrained motions without any switching mechanism which often causes undesirable instability and/or vibrational motion of the end-effector. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method by employing a two link direct drive manipulator interacting with an unknown environment.

  • The design variables of SLIM used for 3-D conveyor system are optimized by nonlinear programing. Five design variables are selected as independent ones and object function is expressed as a combination of the weight and the normal force of the motor. Maximum flux density in the teeth, primary length and starting thrust are chosen as constraint functions. Goodness factor considering of conveying characteristic is also included in the constraints. In this paper sequential unconstrained minimization technique(SUMT) and variable metric method are used to solve the nonlinear problem.

  • This paper proposes the hybrid Complex-PSO algorithm based on the complex search method and particle swarm optimization (PSO) for unconstrained optimization. This hybridization intends to produce faster and more accurate convergence to the optimum value. These hybrid will concentrate on determining the dynamic load model parameters, the ZIP model and induction motor model parameters. Measurement-based parameter estimation, which employs measurement data to derive load model parameters, is used. The theoretical foundation of the measurement-based approach is system identification. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate how the standard particle swarm optimization and complex method can be improved through hybridization of the two methods and the results will be compared with that of their original forms.

  • Eigenstructure assignment is a typical method with the capability of consideration of the time-domain specifications in designing a linear control system. In this paper, we propose a new method for eigenstructure to achieve desired eigenvectors more precisely than with the conventional method. In the proposed method, the conventional eigenstructure assignment problem is interpreted as a constrained optimization one, and it converted into an unconstrained optimization problem to deal with the problem easily. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the proposed flexible eigenstructure assignment method.

  • A heuristic algorithm (SIMICOM) has been designed and tested for optimizing simulated stochastic systems whose performances are functions of several discrete decision variables. The approach adopted utilizes an integer complex method coupled with techniques of establishing confidence intervals for the system's responses. It can handle a general class of optimization problems that could be constrained or unconstrained. In constrained cases, the constraints could either be explicit analytical functions of decision variables or be expressed as other responses of the simulation model. In addition to obtain a reasonably accurate solution, the economic aspect of obtaining the solution has also been taken into consideration.

  • In this research, we designed representative motion patterns that possibly occurred in sleep situation and evaluated the feasibility of the smartphone based movement recording technique. For this, we designed 7 motions such as posture change, head movement, arm movement (vertical, horizontal), leg movement and hand movement (flipping, folding). Movement was recorded by using the smartphone and the actimetry device simultaneously for comparing the feasibility of smartphone based recording. As a result of experiment, we found that the smartphone based movement recording well reflects the body movement, however, it shows the limitation in recording the small local movement such as hand motion compared with the reference actimetry device, Actiwatch.
