In this paper ALPS/ISUM will be used to analyze the ultimate strength of four ships under vertical moment. Two of the ships are commercial vessels and the other two are cruisers. A procedure is also developed to determine the ultimate strength of the four vessels under combined vertical and horizontal moments. A simple analytical expression for an interaction relation under combined moments is proposed based on the results obtained for the four ships and the earlier work.
In the horizontally curved bridges, girders are subjected to the combined action of vertical bending and torsion due to their curvatures without any eccentric loads. As subjected to bending and torsion, the ultimate strength of steel/concrete composite box girders are limited by the diagonal tensile stress in the deck concrete induced by the St. Venant torsion. To determine the ultimate strength of composite box girders in bending and torsion and their interactions, this study conducted a 3-dimensional FEA and classical strength of materials investigation. Using ABAQUS, the FEA fully utilized advanced nonlinear analysis techniques simulating material/geometrical nonlinearity and post-cracking behaviors. The ultimate strength from numerical data were compared with theoretically derived values. Concurrent compressive stresses in the concrete deck improve the shear-resisting capacity of concrete, thereby resulting in an increased torsional resistance of the composite box girder in positive bending. The proposed interaction equation is very simple yet it provides a rational lower bound in determining the ultimate strength of concrete/steel composite box girders.
In this study, a simple indeterminate strut-tie model which reflects complicated characteristics of the ultimate structural behavior of continuous reinforced concrete deep beams was proposed. In addition, the load distribution ratio, defined as the fraction of applied load transferred by a vertical tie of truss load transfer mechanism, was proposed to help structural designers perform the analysis and design of continuous reinforced concrete deep beams by using the strut-tie model approaches of current design codes. In the determination of the load distribution ratio, a concept of balanced shear reinforcement ratio requiring a simultaneous failure of inclined concrete strut and vertical steel tie was introduced to ensure the ductile shear failure of reinforced concrete deep beams, and the primary design variables including the shear span-to-effective depth ratio, flexural reinforcement ratio, and compressive strength of concrete were reflected upon. To verify the appropriateness of the present study, the ultimate strength of 58 continuous reinforced concrete deep beams tested to shear failure was evaluated by the ACI 318M-11's strut-tie model approach associated with the presented indeterminate strut-tie model and load distribution ratio. The ultimate strength of the continuous deep beams was also estimated by the experimental shear equations, conventional design codes that were based on experimental and theoretical shear strength models, and current strut-tie model design codes. The validity of the proposed strut-tie model and load distribution ratio was examined through the comparison of the strength analysis results classified according to the primary design variables. The present study associated with the indeterminate strut-tie model and load distribution ratio evaluated the ultimate strength of the continuous deep beams fairly well compared with those by other approaches. In addition, the present approach reflected the effects of the primary design variables on the ultimate strength of the continuous deep beams consistently and reasonably. The present study may provide an opportunity to help structural designers conduct the rational and practical strut-tie model design of continuous deep beams.

This paper is on experimental study on the behavior of reinforced concrete columns subjected to longitudinal steel ratio To investigate the effects of concrete strength and longitedinal steel ratio on the behavior of reinforced concrete columns. a series of tests were carried out for thirty-six tied reinforced concrete columns with a 100mm square cross section and three slendemess ratio of 15, 30 and 50. And To study and illustrate the change of the ultimate loads and that of displacements, two different concrete strength of 180,26kfg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 819,36kfg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and five different longitudinal steel ratio of 0.5, 1.0, 4.0, 5.7 and 10.3% were used. The boundary conditions at the ends were both hinged and the end eccentricities (17mm) were equal and of the same sign. While the ultimate load capacity of high-strength concrete column was much increased when the columns were short, that was not when the columns were slender. The effect of longitudinal steel ratio on the increased of ultimate load of column was more evident for slender columns than for short ones and the ultimate of longitudinal steel ratio were more pronounced with increasing concrete strength. The more inserted the longitudinal steel, the more increased the ultimate load, but the superabundance of longitudinal steel ratio over the limitation of maximum steel ratio in ACI code was used, it was showed that the ultimate load was rather decreased.

Through the recent accident, the checking of ultimate hull girder capacity for container ship should be needed. Smith’s method is well known as the only simplified method to access rapidly for ultimate hull girder capacity except very expensive nonlinear F.E approach. This simplified method, however, is admitted to apply only to bulker and tanker in accordance with Classification Rules up to now. The targets of this study are to verify effectiveness of the simplified method for container ship’s ultimate hull girder strength and to propose the safety factor considering the local bending in double bottom structures due to out of plane loads through the nonlinear F.E analyses. Two different sized ships and three loading conditions which are pure bending, homo-loading and one-bay empty condition were used for this study. Based on the F.E results, the present study showed that CSR’s simplified method is available for the ultimate hull girder strength of container ship and over 1.2 of safety factor should be applied to consider the local bending effect in double bottom structures due to out of plane loads such as sea pressure an cargo.
Stiffened plates are among the most popular structural elements for marine structures like ships or offshore platforms. Many researchers have performed and reported the results of structural tests on stiffened plates in the open literature. However, the behaviour of stiffened plates in post-ultimate regime has not been fully reported. This paper reports the results of twenty-one axial compression tests including the initial imperfections and material properties of the test models. In aiming to investigate the post-ultimate behaviour of stiffened panels, the axial shortenings were increased up to far beyond the ultimate state. The results obtained from these tests can be utilized in substantiating design formulae in predicting the post-ultimate behaviour of stiffened plates.

The American Concrete Institute (ACI) 318-11 permits the use of the moment magnifier method for computing the design ultimate strength of slender reinforced concrete columns that are part of braced frames. This computed strength is influenced by the column effective length factor K, the equivalent uniform bending moment diagram factor $C_m$ and the effective flexural stiffness EI among other factors. For this study, 2,960 simple braced frames subjected to short-term loads were simulated to investigate the effect of using different methods of calculating the effective length factor K when computing the strength of columns in these frames. The theoretically computed column ultimate strengths were compared to the ultimate strengths of the same columns computed from the ACI moment magnifier method using different combinations of equations for K and EI. This study shows that for computing the column ultimate strength, the current practice of using the Jackson-Moreland Alignment Chart is the most accurate method for determining the effective length factor. The study also shows that for computing the column ultimate strength, the accuracy of the moment magnifier method can be further improved by replacing the current ACI equation for EI with a nonlinear equation for EI that includes variables affecting the column stiffness and proposed in an earlier investigation.
The primary aim of this study is to develop a three dimensional finite element (FE) model to predict the axial stress-strain relationship and ultimate strength of the FRP-wrapped UHPC columns by comparing experimental results. The reliability of four selected confinement models and three design codes such as ACI-440, CSA-S806-02, and ISIS CANADA is also evaluated in terms of agreement with the experimental results. Totally 6 unconfined and 36 different types of the FRP-wrapped UHPC columns are tested under monotonic axial compression. The values of ultimate strengths of FRP-wrapped UHPC columns obtained from the experimental results are compared and verified with finite element (FE) analysis results and the design codes mentioned above. The concrete damage plasticity model (CDPM) in Abaqus is utilized to represent the confined behavior of the UHPC. The results indicate that agreement between the test results and the non-linear FE analysis results is highly satisfactory. The CSA-S806-02 design code is considered more reliable than the ACI-440 and the ISIS CANADA design codes to calculate the ultimate strength of the FRP-wrapped UHPC columns. None of the selected confinement models that are developed for FRP-wrapped low and normal strength concrete columns can safely predict the ultimate strength of FRP-wrapped UHPC columns.

This paper examines the application of structural reliability analysis to submarine pressure hulls to clarify the merits of probabilistic approach in respect thereof. Ultimate strength prediction methods which take the inelastic behavior of ring-stiffened cylindrical shells and hemi-spherical shells into account are reviewed. The modeling uncertainties in terms of bias and coefficient of variation for failure prediction methods in current design guidelines are defined by evaluating the compiled experimental data. A simple ultimate strength formulation for ring-stiffened cylinders taking into account the interaction between local and global failure modes and an ultimate strength formula for hemispherical shells which have better accuracy and reliability than current design codes are taken as basis for reliability analysis. The effects of randomness of geometrical and material properties on failure are assessed by a prelimnary study on reference models. By evaluation of sensitivity factors important variables are determined and comparesons are made with conclusions of previous reliability studies.

Plate has cutout inner bottom and girder and Door etc. in hull construction absence is used much, and this is strength in case must be situated, but establish in region that high stress interacts sometimes fatally in region that there is no big problem usually by purpose of weight reduction, a person and freight movement, piping etc.. Because cutout‘s existence is positioning in this place, and, elastic bucking strength by load causes large effect in ultimate strength. Therefore, perforated plate elastic bucking strength and ultimate strength is one of important design criteria to decide structural elements size at early structure design step of a ship. Therefore, we need reasonable & reliable design formula for elastic bucking strength of the perforated plate. The author computed numerically ultimate strength change about several aspect ratios, cutout dimension, and plate thickness by using ANSYS Finite element analysis code based on finite element method in this paper.
