In this paper, we describe a novel method for recognizing human actions from different views via view knowledge transfer. Our approach is characterized by two aspects: 1) We propose a unsupervised topic transfer model (TTM) to model two view-dependent vocabularies, where the original bag of visual words (BoVW) representation can be transferred into a bag of topics (BoT) representation. The higher-level BoT features, which can be shared across views, can connect action models for different views. 2) Our features make it possible to obtain a discriminative model of action under one view and categorize actions in another view. We tested our approach on the IXMAS data set, and the results are promising, given such a simple approach. In addition, we also demonstrate a supervised topic transfer model (STTM), which can combine transfer feature learning and discriminative classifier learning into one framework.
Cause-related Marketing (CrM) has become an increasingly popular marketing approach over the past two decades. However, neither researchers nor organizations fully understand the determinants of a successful CrM partnership. This research fills this gap. Specifically, we employ the schema theory to explore circumstances in which the CrM alliance cannot achieve a success. We use a theoretical modeling approach to report that, when consumers' typicality-based cognitive process is assumed, the CrM activity with the partners' more-discrepant attribute profile cannot be evaluated favorably, but the attribute-level uncertainty about the CrM alliance is less likely to feedback to the two partners. Furthermore, we argue that, under the schema-plus-tag model, consumers may not like the CrM program with a similar attribute profile. Therefore, this CrM approach may fail. To our knowledge, we are the first to apply the schema theory to explain how a CrM alliance can achieve a success.
Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) has emerged as an enabling technology for the manufacturing of multi-level metal interconnects used in high-density Integrated Circuits (IC). Recently, multi-level structures have been also widely used m the MEMS device such as micro engines, pressure sensors, micromechanical fluid pumps, micro mirrors and micro lenses. Especially, among the thin films available in IC technologies, polysilicon has probably found the widest range of uses in silicon technology based MEMS. This paper presents the characteristic of polysilicon CMP for multi-level MEMS structures. Two-step CMP process verifies that is possible to decrease dishing amount with two type of slurries characteristics. This approach is attractive because two-step CMP process can be decreased dishing amount considerably more then just one CMP process.
An empirical Bayesian approach is discussed for estimation of characteristics from the two-way balanced rotation sampling design which includes U.S. Current Population Survey and Canadian Labor Force Survey as special cases. An empirical Bayesian estimator is derived for monthly effect under presence of two types of biases and correlations It is shown that the marginal distribution of observation provides more general correlation structure than that frequentist has assumed. Consistent estimators are derived for hyper-parameters in Normal priors.
This study takes a quantitative approach to the influence of TTF (Task-Technology Fit) on the individual's use and performance of GSS (Group Support Systems), while traditional studies on TTF have taken the experimental approach to explore the characteristic fit between diverse tasks and technologies. We have the following two research inquires: Are the IS use and performance maximized when information technologies are provided by the exact amount of demand?; and, Does TTF at the high level between task and IT produce better IS use (or performance) than at the low level? To investigate these issues, we use the polynomial regression analysis and response surface methodology of Edwards (1993) instead of traditional direct measure of TTF. This method measures the degree of desired and actual level of information technologies in conducting tasks, and traces the dynamic changes of dependent variables (IS use and performance) according to the variances of each independent variable. Our results conclude that user's IS use and performance are maximized when information technologies are actually provided by no more or less than the desired level. We also found that TTF at the high level promotes better IS use and performance than TTF at the low level.

Objective : When treating high-positioned anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysms, pterional-transsylvian and interhemispheric approaches are both viable options, yet comparative studies of these two surgical approaches are rare. Accordingly, this retrospective study investigated the surgical results of both approaches. Methods : Twenty-four patients underwent a pterional approach (n=11) or interhemispheric approach (n=13), including a unilateral low anterior interhemispheric approach or bifrontal interhemispheric approach, for high-positioned ACoA aneurysms with an aneurysm dome height >15 mm and aneurysm neck height >10 mm both measured from the level of the anterior clinoid process. The clinical and radiological data were reviewed to investigate the surgical results and risk factors of incomplete clipping. Results : The pterional patient group showed a significantly higher incidence of incomplete clipping than the interhemispheric patient group (p=0.031). Four patients (36.4%) who underwent a pterional approach showed a postclipping aneurysm remnant, whereas all the patients who experienced an interhemispheric approach showed complete clipping. In one case, the aneurysm remnant was obliterated by coiling, while follow-up of the other three cases showed the remnants remained limited to the aneurysm base. A multivariate analysis revealed that a pterional approach for a large aneurysm with a diameter >8 mm presented a statistically significant risk factor for incomplete clipping. Conclusion : For high-positioned ACoA aneurysms with a dome height >15 mm and neck height >10 mm above the level of the anterior clinoid process, a large aneurysm with a diameter >8 mm can be clipped more completely via an interhemispheric approach than via a pterional approach.
This article examines the ways in which language can be exploited in the manipulation of the reader's interpretation of a text to make him/her take certain lines of thought according to the writer's persuasive intents. Such functions of language provide valid foundations to support the teaching of critical reading skills and to explore an adequate approach to discourse analysis. A pilot study was conducted to find out the extent to which the reader can be coaxed into thinking in some fashions guided by specific linguistic devices employed for ideological texts. Forty-seven subjects divided into two groups (humanities majors and natural science majors at undergraduate level) joined the two-fold questionnaire surveys intended to look at their critical reading abilities. The empirical results indicate that college students whose majors are humanities were more inclined to take a holistic approach in processing commercial advertisement texts and their abilities for critical interpretation appeared to be lower than those of the subjects whose majors are natural sciences, who showed a relatively high tendency to take an analytical approach in decoding the textual facts. As a consequence, pedagogic implications for increasing critical reading abilities have resulted in a set of analytical procedures concerning ideological texts which is linked with instructional guidelines to emphasize the importance of the reader's logical and analytical reasoning power, entirely accepted as a general prerequisite for cracking the covert language gambits.
This paper deals with the idea to replace the usual high-level sine sweep test on shaker at system level, very severe, by a low level one completed by a transient test in the same configuration, in order to be more representative of the real environment, thus limiting over testing and improving the payload comfort. The problem of the transient test specification is first discussed. The proposed solution is to derive from LV/SC coupled analyses a shock response spectrum corresponding to two damping ratios. Then, the question of adequate shock synthesis is tackled. A new method with a given spectrum is considered for better potential and accuracy than the usual wavelets. A campaign on the Intespace bi-shaker devoted to system level showed its capability to perform the resulting test with one spectrum. First investigations to extend this approach to two spectra are in progress.
As Temporal DataBase Systems(TDBSs) manages both the historical versions and the current version of each data item, a temporal transaction may access more data records than atransaction in traditional database systems. Hence, the concurrency control subsystem of temporaldatabase management system should be able to correctly and efficiently detect actual conflicts amongconcurrent temporal transactions while the cost of detecting conflicts is maintained in low levelwithout detecting false conflicts which cause severe degradation of system throughput. In this paper, Two-Level Conflict Detection(TLCD) scheme is proposed for efficient conflictdetection between concurrent temporal transactions in TDBs. In the proposed TLCD scheme, sincechecking conflict between concurrent temporal transactions is performed at two levels, i, e., logicallevel and physical level, conflicts between concurrent temporal transactions are efficiently and correctlydetected,Furthermore, we also evaluate the performance of the proposed TLCD scheme with those oftraditional conflict detection schemes, logical-level conflict detection scheme and physical-level conflictdetection scheme by simulation approach, The result of the simulation study shows that the proposedTLCD scheme outperforms the previous conflict detection schemes with respect to the averageresponse time.
