The Flow patterns around two cylinders in various arrangements were studied by a discrete vortex method. The flow for the surface of each cylinder was represented by arranging bound vortices at adequate intervals. The viscous diffusion of fluid was represented by the random walk method. The vortex distributions. streaklines. timelines and velocity vectors around two cylinders were calculated for centre-to-centre pitch ratios of P/D=1.5 and 2.5, attack ang1es of $a=0^{circ}, 30^{circ}, 60^{circ} and 90^{\circ}$. and Reynolds number of Re= 1200. The results of simulation correspond to the photographs by flow visualization and the flow intereference between two cylinders in various arrangements were clearly visualized by a numerical simulation.

In this paper static analysis of FGM cylinders subjected to internal and external pressure was carried out by a mesh-free method. In this analysis MLS shape functions are used for approximation of displacement field in the weak form of equilibrium equation and essential boundary conditions are imposed by transformation method. Mechanical properties of cylinders were assumed to be variable in the radial direction. Two types of cylinders were analyzed in this work. At first cylinders with infinite length were considered and results obtained for these cylinders were compared with analytical solutions and a very good agreement was seen between them. Then the proposed mesh-free method was used for analysis of cylinders with finite length and two different types of boundary conditions. Results obtained from these analyses were compared with results of finite element analyses and a very good agreement was seen between them.
This paper provides a numerical solution for multiple confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders. In the problem, the inner elliptic notch is under the traction free condition. The medium is composed of many confocal elliptic dissimilar cylinders. The transfer matrix method is used to study the continuity condition for the stress and displacement along the interfaces. Two cases, or the infinite matrix case and the finite matrix case, are studied in this paper. In the former case, the remote tension is applied in y- direction. In the latter case, the normal loading is applied along the exterior elliptic contour. For two cases, several numerical results are provided.
In this paper, flow patterns around two vertical cylinders were investigated numerically and experimentally Flow patterns between cylinders are very complex and interative. Changing gaps between cylinders the flow patterns are measured and numerically studied at a fixed comming velocity. The experiment has beeen conducted in circulating water channel with PIV system and manometer, and numerical analysis has been made by F.D.M. and multi block method. The results can be applied in the understanding and design of multiple pile array structures.
Despite the increasing necessity of accurate estimation of ring-stiffened cylinders' ultimate strength, the complex structural behavior of cylinders has made their design mainly depend on empirical formulas mostly based on insufficient test data rather than theoretical background. This paper has developed the imperfection method which enables the ultimate strength analysis of buckling sensitive structures by combining two general functions of common commercial finite element softwares, linear elastic buckling analysis and nonlinear stress analysis. Developed method was applied to two of the world most renowned commercial softwares, MSC/NASTRAN and ABAQUS, for the analysis of ring-stiffened cylinders and unexpectedly big difference in their analysis results was found. This tells that many widely used commercial softwares has their different strong points and week points and the choice of commercial software should be cautiously made after thorough inspection. This paper ends with some useful information about which of the aforementioned two softwares is more appropriate respectively for linear elastic buckling analysis and ultimate strength analysis of ring-stiffened cylinders.
The paper deals with numerical analysis of interference galloping of two elastically supported circular cylinders of equal diameters. The basis of the analysis is quasi-steady model of this phenomenon. The model assumes that both cylinders participate in process of interference galloping and they have two degrees of freedom. The movement of the cylinders is written as a set of four nonlinear differential equations. On the basis of numerical solutions of this equations the authors evaluate the correctness of this quasi-steady model. Then they estimate the dependence of a critical reduced velocity on the Scruton number, turbulence intensity and arrangements of the cylinders.

In a multiple array of vertical cylinders, flaw patterns are very complex and very interactive between cylinders. The patterns are turbulent and non-linear depending on various factors. The gap and flow incoming velocity of upstream can affect on the downstream cylinder. In this study, the flaw characteristics around two vertical cylinders are investigated numerically and experimentally. As the gap between cylinders is changed at fixed coming velocity, the pressure distributions around cylinders are observed and compared by experimental and numerical approaches. The F.D.M and multi-block method are applied in the study. The pressures at 12 points around the cylinder are measured in the experiment. The results can be applied in the understanding and design of multiple pile array structures.
