Analysis of Cutting Properties with Reference to Amount of Coolant used in an Environment-Conscious Turning Process

  • In the recent years, environmentally conscious design and manufacturing technologies have attracted considerable attention. The coolants, lubricants, solvents, metallic chips and discarded tools from manufacturing operations will harm our environment and the earth's ecosystem. In the present work, the Tukey method of multiple comparisons is used to select the minimum level of coolant required in a turning process. The amount of coolant is varied in 270 designed experiments and the parameters cutting temperature, surface roughness, and specific cutting energy are carefully evaluated. The effects of coolant mix ratio as well as the amount of coolant on the turning process are studied in the present work. The cutting temperature and surface roughness for different quantity of coolant are investigated by analysis of variance (ANOVA) - test and a multiple comparison method. ANOVA-test results signify that the average tool temperature and surface roughness depend on the amount of coolant. Based on Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) method, one of the multiple comparison methods, the minimum level of coolant is 1.0 L/min with 2% mix ratio in the aspect of controlling tool temperature. F-test concludes that the amount of coolant used does not have any significant effect on specific cutting energy. Finally, Tukey method ascertains that 0.5 L/min with 6% mix ratio is the minimum level of coolant required in turning process without any serious degradation of the surface finish. Considering all aspects of cutting, the minimum coolant required is 1.0 L/min with 6% mix ratio. It is merely half the coolant currently used i.e. 2.0 L/min with 10% mix ratio. Minimal use of coolant not only economically desirable for reducing manufacturing cost but also it imparts fewer hazards to human health. Also, sparing use of coolant will eventually transform the turning process into a more environment-conscious manufacturing process.

8자 모양 트랙을 이용한 방향전환 훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 균형 및 보행에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Turning Training on Figure of 8 Tract on Stoke Patients' Balance and Walking)

  • Purpose: This study was intended to discover the effect of the turning training on figure of 8 tract on stroke patients' static and dynamic balance, as well as walking. Methods: A total of 42 stroke patients participated in this study. The training group was trained on the figure of 8 tract, while the control group was trained on the straight path for 30 minutes per day, for 4 weeks. Berg balance scale was used to measure the balance of the patients, before and after the training, and Good balance system was used to measure the sway speed and the distance of COG while standing. To measure the ability of walking, TUG and FSST were also used. Results: There were significant increases in the average score of Berg balance scale, in both groups after the training, and also significant difference between both groups were observed. The training group showed significant differences in the static balance ability, as well as anteroposterior and mediolateral sway speed. Further, there were significant increases in the dynamic balance ability, COP total distance, and TUG in both groups. The results showed more differences in comparing the control group with that of the training group. In FSST, there was no change in the control group, but there was a significant increase in the training group. Conclusion: Turning training on figure of 8 tract in stroke patients significantly increased the static and dynamic balance and walking ability. Based on the results, it can be seen that the training on the figure of 8 tract can influence the ability of balance and walking, which can lead to appropriate reactions to the change of environment and various tasks. Thus, it is assumed that turning training on figure of 8 tract as a means of improving the condition of stroke patients can be a meaningful program.

트럼펫 IC 램프의 운전조건과 교통사고 분석 (Analysis of Driving Conditions and Traffic Accidents in the Case of Trumpet Interchange Ramps)

  • 본 연구는 트럼펫 IC 램프의 교통사고를 다룬다. 연구의 목적은 회전방향(그리고 기하구조 요소와의 조합)에 따른 교통사고와의 관계를 분석하는데 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 트럼펫 IC 연결로의 회전방향과 종단경사와의 조합 및 회전방향과 곡선반경과의 조합에 따른 교통사고와의 관계분석에 중점을 둔다. 귀무가설을 검정한 결과 트럼펫 IC 연결로 회전방향에 따른 평균사고율과 평균사고건수는 각각 신뢰수준 90%와 95%신뢰수준에서 기각되었다 또한 트럼펫 IC 연결로 회전방향-종단경사의 조합과 회전방향-곡선반경의 조합에서도 평균사고건수와 평균사고율은 모두 95%신뢰수준에서 기각되었다. 요약하면, 우회전 이동류가 좌회전에 비해 더 위험한 것으로 분석된다. 또한 우회전-상향 램프와 좌회전-곡선반경 200이상 램프가 타 램프에 비해 교통사고 잠재력이 더 높은 것으로 분석된다.

고체 입자와 유동방향 변환에 의한 로켓 모터 내 음향 감쇠에 대한 고찰 (Study on Acoustic Attenuation due to Particles and Flow Turning in Rocket Motors)

  • 본 논문은 고체 로켓 모터 연소실 내의 연소과정 중 발생하는 연소 불안정 현상을 억제하는 여러 요소들 중 입자에 의한 감쇠와 유동방향 변환 감쇠에 대한 선행연구의 연구결과를 정리 분석하였다. 입자에 의한 감쇠는 연소실 내에서 발생하는 고주파 연소불안정을 억제하는데 있어 가장 효과적이며 입자의 직경과 질량 분율에 영향을 받는다. 한편 입자에 의한 감쇠에 비해 적은 감쇠량을 갖는 유동방향 변환 감쇠는 추진제의 구조에 따라 변하며, 추진제 표면에서 생성된 와도를 고려한다면 펌핑에 의한 증폭을 고려해야한다. 그러나 추진제의 형상이 원통형일 경우 유동방향 변환 감쇠와 펌핑에 의한 증폭의 크기는 같아지고 상쇄가 일어나 연소 안정성을 보다 쉽게 평가할 수 있다.

중층 트롤의 어법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fishing Method of the Midwater Trawl -On the meneuveravilities of the fishing boat under operation-)

  • Due to depletion of fish resources as time goes on, the trawl fishing industries which have caught the demersal fish is confronting with financial difficulties. For the purpose of breaking these difficulties, trawlers are expanding the fishing targets to the midwater from bottom stock. The trawlers become to be able to detect the fish schools not only vertical but also horizontal direction by equipping the sonar system on board. Even though the operator locates the fish school by sonar, it is not easy to make a desirable catch of the fish school which is detected, for the reason of the maneuverring characteristics of trawler. For the purpose of enhancing the efficiency of a fish catch, the auther performed a series of on board experiments to investigate the maneuverablilites of midwater trawaler. The obtained results are summerized as follows: 1. The higher the RPM of main engine, the smaller the magnitude of turning circle. And it is smaller in the right than in the left turning 2. Towing speed varies irregularly under turning novenment. When the RPM of main engine being 560, 680 the angular velocities are 11.3deg/min, 22.5deg/min respectively. 3. The difference of new course distance between calculated by maneuverring indices and measured by experimental ship is high when altering course being large and towing speed low. 4. The faster the towing speed is, the shorter the new course distance becomes. When towing speed is same in right and left turning movement, the now course distance is shorter in case of right turning movement than in left. 5. It is considered to be convenient for a navigator to utilize the curves for altering course in order to steer the ship rapidly and accurately.

선형에 따른 전심의 이동에 관한 연구 (A Study on Shifting of Pivoting Point in accordance with Configuration of Ships)

  • In the restricted sea way such as fair way in harbor, narrow channel etc, the safe ship-handling is a very important problem, which is greatly related with turning ability of ships. It is of great importance that ship-handlers can grasp the position of pivoting point varying with time increase at any moment for relevant steering activities. Mean while, in advanced ship-building countries they study and investigated pivoting point related with turning characteristics, hut their main interest lies in ship design, not in safe ship controlling and maneuvering. In this regards it is the purpose of this paper to provide ship-handlers better under standing of pivoting point location together with turning characteristics and then to help them in safe ship-handling by presenting fact that pivoting points vary according to configuration of ships. The author calculated the variation of pivoting point as per time increase for various type of vessels, based on the hydrodynamic derivatives obtained at test of Davidson Laboratory of Stevens Institutes of Technology , New Jersey, U.S.A. The results were classified and investigated according to the magnitude of block coefficient , length-beam ratio, length-draft ratio, rudder area ratio ete, and undermentioned results were obtained. (1) The trajectory of pivoting point due to variation of rudder angle are all the same at any time, though the magenitude of turning circle are changed variously. (2) The moving of pivoting point is affected by the magnitude of block coefficient, length-beam ratio, length-draft ratio, however the effect by rudder area ratio might be disregarded. (3) In controlling and maneuvering of vessels in harbor, ship-handlers might regard that the pivoting point would be placed on 0.2~0.3L forward from center of gravity at initial stage. (4) The pivoting point of VLCC or container feeder vessels which have block coefficient more than 0.8 and length-beam ratio less than 6.5 are located on or over bow in the steady turning. (5) When a vessel intends to avoid some floating obstruction such as buoy forward around her eourse, the ship-handler might consider that the pivoting point would be close by bow in ballast condition and cloase by center of gravity in full-loaded condition.

VTS에서 AIS데이터를 활용한 정박선의 선회중심 추정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Estimation of Center of Turning Circle of Anchoring Vessel using Automatic Identification System Data in VTS)

  • 정박중인 선박의 안전을 위하여 항해사, 선장 및 해상교통관제사는 항상 선박이 주묘되고 있는가를 확인하여야 한다. 정박선의 주묘판별을 위하여 VTS 관제사가 선회권과 그 중심을 인지하는 것이 중요하다. VTS에서 정박선 주묘여부 감시는 레이더 및 AIS를 이용할 수 있다. 또한 이용가능하다면, CCTV 영상이나 육안에 의한 관측도 이루어 질 수 있다. 그러나 VTS 시스템은 AIS 및 ARPA Radar로부터 수집된 데이터만으로 정박선을 모니터링하고 있으므로 정박지내에서 정박선의 선회중심을 알기가 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 VTS에서 AIS에 의해 수집된 정박 선박의 선수방위각과 위치데이터를 활용하여 선회중심을 추정하는 알고리즘을 제시하고자 한다. 알고리즘의 유효성을 확인하기 위해, 실 환경에서 정박한 선박에 대한 실험연구를 수행하였다.

교차로에서 우회전차량과 횡단자전거와의 상충위험성에 관한 연구 (Potential Risk of Collisions at Intersections Between Crossing Bicycles and Right-turning Cars)

  • 자전거 교통사고는 이용수요의 증대와 더불어 지속적으로 증가하고 있는 추세이며, 기존 교통사고 자료를 통해 자전거 교통사고의 특성을 살펴보면 사고발생 지점은 주로 교차로 내부이며, 사고형태는 측면직각충돌사고가 빈번한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 교차로 내에서 발생되는 우회전차량과 횡단자전거 간의 상충위험성이 발생하는 원인으로 우회전차량 운전자의 주위확인행태와 차량속도로 가정하고 시뮬레이션 분석을 이용하여 그 위험성을 제기하고자 한다. 연구 결과 우회전차량의 주행속도가 낮을수록, 또한 운전자가 고개를 돌려 적극적으로 우측 후방을 확인할수록 상충위험성은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

경산 임당 유적 출토 목제유물의 도구흔적 분석을 통한 목재 가공 방법의 해석 (Interpretation of Wood Processing Method by Tool Trace Analysis for Wooden Artifacts Excavated from Imdang-dong Site, Gyeongsan, Korea)

  • 경산 임당 유적에서 출토된 2-4세기로 추정되는 목제유물의 표면에 존재하는 도구흔적을 분석하여 목제유물의 제작도구와 제작방법을 해석하고자 하였다. 97점의 목제유물의 표면에 존재하는 도구흔적을 분석한 결과, 이들 유물의 제작에 자귀, 끌, 송곳, 손칼, 도끼 등 다양한 도구가 이용되었음이 확인되었다. 특히 갈이틀과 갈이칼의 흔적이 확인됨으로써, 이 시기에 선삭가공 방법이 사용되었음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 선삭가공으로 용기류 목제유물 제작 시 눈질과 선질을 혼합하여 사용했음이 확인되었다. 이는 제작하고자 하는 용기류 목제유물의 형태 및 용도에 따라 적합한 가공방법을 적용한 것으로 판단된다.

입사각이 고선회 터빈 동익 하류에서의 3차원 유동 및 압력손실에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Incidence Angle on the Three-Dimensional Flow and Aerodynamic Loss Downstream of a High-Turning Turbine Rotor Blade)

  • The effect of incidence angle on the three-dimensional flow and aerodynamic loss in the downstream region of a high-turning turbine rotor blade has been investigated with a straight miniature five-hole probe. The incidence angle is changed to be +10, +5, 0, -10, -20, -30 and -40 degrees. The results show that the positive incidence reinforces the three-dimensional vortical flows within the turbine passage including the passage vortex, but the negative incidence weaken them significantly. A small increment in the positive incidence angle results in a remarkable aerodynamic loss increase, while increasing the incidence angle in the negative range leads to a very small change in the aerodynamic loss.
