  • Turbo code needs long decoding time because of iterative decoding. To communicate with high speed, we have to shorten decoding time and it is possible with parallel process. But memory contention can cause from parallel process, and it reduces performance of decoder. To avoid memory contention, QPP interleaver is proposed in 2006. In this paper, we propose MDF method which is fit to QPP interleaver, and has relatively short decoding time and reduced logic. And introduce the design of MAP decode module using MDF method. Designed decoder is targetted to FPGA of Xilinx, and its throughput is 80Mbps maximum.

  • Turbo equalizer system is a method which can improve performance through a combination of the equalizer and decoder. The turbo equalizer has been mainly used a MAP equalizer. However, this turbo equalizer has a disadvantage that has a high computational complexity. To overcome the disadvantage and to improve efficiency of bandwidth, blind turbo equalization system is proposed. blind turbo equalization system has low equalization performance than conventional turbo equalization system. To circumvent this problem, we adapt the beamforming method based on the MUSIC algorithm. we confirmed that the proposed method improves the equalization performance.

  • Turbo codes, whose performance in bit error rate is close to the Shannon limit, have been adopted as a part of standard for the third-generation high-speed wireless data services. Iterative Turbo decoding results in decoding delay and high power consumption. As wireless communication systems can only use limited power supply, low power design techniques are essential for mobile device implementation. This paper proposes new effective criteria for stopping the iteration process in turbo decoding to reduce power consumption. By setting two stopping criteria, decodable threshold and undecodable threshold, we can effectively reduce the number of decoding iterations with only negligible error-correcting performance degradation. Simulation results show that the number of unsuccessful error-correction can be reduced by 89% and the number of decoding iterations can be reduced by 29% on the average among 12500 simulations when compared with those of an existing typical method.

  • In this paper, we propose carrier phase synchronization algorithm which are base on turbo coded system for DVB-RCS. There have been two categories of phase estimator, single estimator outside turbo code decoder and multiple estimators inside turbo code decoder. In single estimator, we use the estimation algorithm that ML(Maximum Likelihood) and LMS(Least Mean Square), also three different soft decision methods are proposed. Multiple estimator apply PSP(Per Survivor Processing) algorithm additionally. We compared performance between single estimator and Multiple estimator in AWGN channel. We presented the two methods of PSP algorithm for performance elevation. First is the Bi-directional channel estimation and second is binding method.

  • In this paper, we propose a low-complexity Turbo coded BICM-ID (bit-interleaved coded modulation with iterative decoding) system. A Turbo code is a powerful error correcting code with a BER (bit error rate) performance very close to the Shannon limit. In order to increase spectral efficiency of the Turbo code, a coded modulation combining Turbo code with high order modulation is used. The BER performance of Turbo-BICM can be improved by Turbo-BICM-ID using iterative demodulation and decoding algorithm. However, compared with Turbo-BICM, the decoding complexity of Turbo-BICM-ID is increased by exchanging information between decoder and demodulator. To reduce the decoding complexity of Turbo-BICM-ID, we propose a low-complexity Turbo-BICM-ID system. When compared with conventional Turbo-BICM-ID, the proposed scheme not only show similar BER performance but also reduce the decoding complexity.

  • Two implementation methods for SOVA (Soft Output Viterbi Algorithm)of Turbo decoder are applied and verfied. The first method is the combination of a trace back (TB) logic for the survivor state and a double trace back logic for the weight value in two-step SOVA. This architecure of two-setp SOVA decoder allows important savings in area and high-speed processing compared with that of one-step SOVA decoding using register exchange (RE) or trace-back (TB) method. Second method is adjusting the reliability value with a scaling factor between 0.25 and 0.33 in order to compensate for the distortion for a rate 1/3 and 8-state SOVA decoder with a 256-bit frame size. The proposed schemes contributed to higher SNR performance by 2dB at the BER 10E-4 than that of SOVA decoder without a scaling factor. In order to verify the suggested schemes, the SOVA decoder is testd using Xillinx XCV 1000E FPGA, which runs at 33.6MHz of the maximum speed with 845 latencies and it features 175K gates in the case of 256-bit frame size.

  • In this paper, we propose and observe the Adaptive Modulation system with optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST (Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) technique that is applied the extrinsic information from MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) Decoder in decoding Algorithm of V-BLAST: ordering and slicing. The extrinsic information is used by a priori probability and the system decoding process is composed of the Main Iteration and the Sub Iteration. And comparing the proposed system with the Adaptive Modulation system using conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique that is simply combined V-BLAST with Turbo Coding scheme, we observe how much throughput performance has been improved. In addition, we observe the proposed system using STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) scheme. As a result of simulation, Comparing with the conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique with the Adaptive Modulation systems, the optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique with the Adaptive Modulation systems has better throughput gain that is about 350 Kbps in 11 dB SNR range. Especially, comparing with the conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique using 2 transmit and 2 receive antennas, the proposed system with STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) scheme show that the improvement of maximum throughput is about 1.77 Mbps in the same SNR range.

  • Turbo codes of long block sizes have been known to show very good performance in an AWGN channel and the turbo code has been strongly recommended as error correction code for W-CDMA in 3GPP(3rd Generation Partnership Project). Recently, turbo codes of short block sizes suitable for real time communication systems have attracted a lot of attention. Thus, in this paper we consider the turbo code of 1/3 code rate and short frame size of 192 bits in ITU-R channel model. We analyzed the performance of W-CDMA systems of 10MHz bandwidths employing RAKE receiver with not only MRC diversity but also SOVA-based turbo code.

  • In this article, we introduce a new class of product codes based on convolutional codes, called convolutional product codes. The structure of product codes enables parallel decoding, which can significantly increase decoder speed in practice. The use of convolutional codes in a product code setting makes it possible to use the vast knowledge base for convolutional codes as well as their flexibility in fast parallel decoders. Just as in turbo codes, interleaving turns out to be critical for the performance of convolutional product codes. The practical decoding advantages over serially-concatenated convolutional codes are emphasized.
