To assess a various of workplace noise environment in the tunnel construction site, the measurement is performed while tunnel constructing work. This study focuses on the sound attenuation according to the sound frequency characteristics and the distance from various works in the tunnel. Also, the noise distribution while blasting work is measured according to distance in this study. In addition, the boring processing, muck treatment, and tunnel lining by distance are measured for the noise distributions.

Many countries are trying to reduce a greenhouse gas to step up their fight against climate change. There are many studies related to building only for reducing a greenhouse gas in construction area but studies related to reducing a comprehensive environmental load including various pollutants that affects the global environment are lacking. This study aims to analyse the characteristics of environmental load by work type for tunnel projects. Analysis showed that seven work types, including lining concrete, shotcrete, tunnel portal and open-cut tunnel work, etc., are representative works generated environmental load. These seven works represent 89.22 percent of total environmental load. In addition, comparison results of environmental load per tunnel's length by work type showed that a major factor of environmental load is caused by a tunnel portal and open-cut tunnel work with relatively short length (excavation length). And lining concrete and shotcrete work are larger than any other environmental load with tunnel's total length. It is expected that the result of this study will be used to make a estimation model for environmental load using approximate quantity survey of representative work types in the early stage of tunnel design. And it will be play a considerable role in establishing of environment management plan for sustainable infrastructure construction.
The third double-track construction part of work, called Chung Ang Railroad line(Deok-So$\∼$Won-Ju) is in progress and the personal museum located 330m from the starting point of Pal-Dang Tunnel(length=4,470m) line in the canyon is to be effected by rock blasting during the tunnel excavation work, especially museum articles and building itself. This paper is the example of application suitable tunnel rock blasting pattern for excavation after the case study about the investigation and analysis of rock blasting noise pollution during tunnel excavation work. The museum is a three-story building, RC concrete structure and is located 17m from the top of the tunnel, in the center of the double-track line. Comparing estimate vibration frequency with site vibration one, it can be verified the reasonable rock blasting noise pollution as improving the application of tunnel excavation rock blasting pattern. The above pattern has been selected economically and effectively and applied to our construction field.
The objectives of this study was to investiage the effects of sitting posture on carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) continues to be one of the most widely publicized maladies of the cumulative trauma disorder. Many studies have reported a positive association between CTS and highly repetitive work, high force, and poor posture. High force and repetitive work have especially been associated with CTS, but the evidence for work being a primary cause of CTS is strongest when these factors are combined. In addition to carpal tunnel syndrome, hand, wrist, and other disorders are attributed to these work-related movements. Such disorders are referred to as repetitive stress injuries, cumulative trauma disorder, overuse syndromes, and chronic upper limb pain syndrome. Incorrect posture also may play a role in the development of CTS in people who work at a computer and other types of keyboards. The tendency to roll the shoulders forward, round the lower back, and thrust the chin forward can shorten the neck and shoulder muscles, compressing nerves in the neck. This, in turn, can affect the wrist, fingers, and hand. The treatment and prevention of carpal tunnel syndrome continue to be approached with a segmental view of the human body. For example, the most common ergonomic solution for carpal tunnel syndrome associated with keyboard use is to keep the wrists in a neutral position by using a wrist rest in front of the keyboard and good sitting posture.
A blasting noise generated by blasting work, which is a kind of shock-noise, influences the human body. A civil appeal due to blasting noise causes work discontinuance and downsizing of a blasting scale. Most of soundproof facilities for reducing a blasting noise is installed at each working spot by itself and the degree of a noise reduction is very low. The aim of this study is to recommend a technology on noise reduction considering the method and material of soundproof facilities. As the first study step to acquire basic data, investigations on the installation time, installation method, and material of the soundproof facilities have been done at about 20 tunnel work spots such as railroad tunnel, road tunnel, tunnel for electric power.

Some open jet wind tunnels have been operating under limitations due to large pressure fluctuations at some wind tunnel speeds. The Hyundai Aero-acoustic full scale Wind Tunnel (HAWT), which was completed in 1999, shows that most of the specifications were fulfilled but wind tunnel pulsations at some wind speeds were observed. Hyundai Motor Company started the wind tunnel modification in order to solve this problem in 2001. After the modification work the amplitude of pressure fluctuation was reduced and below required level over full wind speed range. Aero-acoustic performance, e.g. background noise, as well as aerodynamic performance were improved after this work.

Flow phenomena such as the pressure transients Inside a high-speed railway tunnel and the Impulsive waves at the exit of the tunnel are closely associated with the characteristics of the entry compression wave, which is generated by a train entering the tunnel. Tunnel entrance hood may be an effective means for alleviating the Impulsive waves and pressure transients. The objective of the current work is to explore the effects of the train nose shape and the entrance hood on the characteristics of the entry compression wave. Numerical calculations using the method of characteristics were applied to one-dimensional, unsteady, compressible flow field with respect to high-speed railway/tunnel systems. Two types of the entrance hoods and various train nose shapes were employed to reveal their influences on the entry compression wave for a wide range of train speeds. The results showed that the entry compression wave length increases as the train nose becomes longer and the train speed becomes lower. The entry compression wave length in the tunnel with hood becomes longer than that of no hood. Maximum pressure gradient in the compression wavefront reduces by the entrance hood. The results of the current work provide useful data for the design of tunnel entrance hood.
This paper describes the impact of reflected sound in tunnel. The impact of reflected sound is obtained from making a comparision between measurements of tunnel and bridge. Sound level of tunnel is higher than that of bridge because reflected sound is generated in tunnel. Road traffic noise cannot be freely propagated because there are many buildings in urban. Therefore, a tunnel effect is generated in urban road. The impact of reflected sound is generated not only in tunnel, but also in urban road. This study provides the basic data for tunneling work and noise control strategy in urban road.
In any form of construction work, it is essential that accidents be prevented at every stage from foundation preparation to build completion. For this, it is necessary to use models that can assess risk and provide instruction for safe work processes so that the risk of accidents is reduced. Currently, however, very few models can perform these tasks. In this paper, we presents a model that assesses risk quantitatively by analyzing risk factors involved in stage of construction such as foundation work, erection work, structural work, equipment work, finishing work and etc work. The model performs assessment based on examples of accidents and by investing actual conditions during construction. In addition, we presents in this paper a safety management system was developed to assess risk during construction and to effectively train laborers.

Tunnel construction is an important part of Korean public construction projects. Although the development of various equipment and technologies has led to advances in tunnel construction methods that are implemented on sites, the cost standards related to such works do not yet reflect the realities of the construction sites. A literature review and site surveys were conducted to suggest reasonable cost standards for tunnel work that reflects the realities of the field. First, each item in the cost standards for tunnel work, as established in the Construction Standard Production Rates, were analyzed. The results were compared with the actual costs implemented on tunnel projects. The key items analyzed included those regarding the work cycle time, such as rock classification, profiling survey, drilling speed, and muck-disposal processing equipment combination, as well as the number of people put to tunneling work. Based on the site survey results, improved estimates regarding the cycle time per one tunnel drilling blast, drilling speed of the machine, muck disposal processing equipment combination, and the number of people put to tunneling work were suggested. This study suggests the cost standards that reflect the realities of tunneling sites. The results are expected to help ensure adequate costs for tunnel construction projects.
