  • This paper, an evaluation of the mechanical property for the backfilling materials of the NATM Composite lining tunnel using the lightweight foamed mortar, relates to the performance of permeability, compressive strength and unit volume weight. Therefore, this study is aimed to prove the three main factor that refered to the above line for development of new tunnel method. As the result of this study, it would be confirmed that the D mix is better than other mixs a side of all tests and its relation that is for the tunnel backfilling materials.

  • The lining concrete of water tunnel is a much capability to occur crack due to drying shrinkage and vibrator compaction etc. Because of crack of concrete induce structural problem and decrease durability of concrete, it is need to reduce crack of concrete. In this an Analytical study to analyze the effect of curing of concrete and compaction on the lining concrete. As the results, it was found that control of construction condition into curing of concrete and compaction improve on construction efficiency of the lining concrete.

  • In this study, the degree of deterioration on the tunnel lining concrete due to crack and leakage was evaluated by field-investigating the conventional tunnels constructed a long time ago. By examining the exterior, conducting the non-destructive test and collecting cores for the tunnel concrete linings, this study evaluated the compressive strength and the permeability, and also performed instrumental analyses.

  • Ground settlements and pore pressure changes were monitored around a shallow tunnel constructed in clay till during the excavation and primary lining installation. The settlements above the tunnel continued to develop for up to 100 days after the primary lining installation. Triaxial compression tests were carried out to estimate the short-term and long-term deformation characteristics of the till. Numerical simulation was conducted to history match the field measurements, and thus, to quantify the settlements induced by ground stress relief, consolidation and creep. It was found that the surface settlements due to ground stress relief, consolidation and creep are 17, 12 and 71% of total settlement (about 44 mm), respectively. In addition, early installation of rigid concrete lining could be an effective means to reduce the settlement due to creep.

  • To assess tunnel safety, cracks in tunnel lining are measured by inspectors who observe cracks with their eyes. A manual inspection is, however, slow and subjective. This paper, therefore, proposes vision-based inspection system for measuring cracks in the tunnel lining that inspects cracks fast and objective. The system is consisted of an on-vehicle system and a lab system. An on-vehicle system acquires image data with line CCD camera. A lab system extracts crack then inform their thickness, length and orientation by using image processing. To improve accuracy of crack recognition the geometric properties of a crack was applied to image processing. The proposed system were verified with experiments in both laboratory and field environment.

  • This study implicates a quality evaluation technique for lining concrete using the ultra-sonic technique and proposed a classification for quality evaluation. From the comparison of test results, an improved result comparable to the results by destructive test can be obtained by using averaged transmission velocity of velocities obtained at pure space and central space between two sensors of ultrasonic tester. It is also shown that strength evaluation by ultra-sonic method is not reliable and an evaluation according to the transmission velocities can be improved method for the strength evaluation of concrete.

  • The appropriate ventilation system in vehicular tunnel should be the most economical solution with regard to both construction and maintenance. The damages on tunnel lining was affected by formula of ventilation system in long vehicular tunnel. In this study, carbonation, one of main experimental items in precision safety diagnosis, was analyzed by contouring damage area with ventilation system. Considerations of carbonation were also given to the design and maintenance which manage the long-term safety in tunnel.

  • This study investigates the failure mechanism and load-carrying capacity of a single-shell lining which has no disturbance in transfer of shear force, with respect to a conventional double-shell lining which has separation between layers of shotcrete lining and secondary concrete lining by water-proof membrane. In order to evaluate the capacity, a 2-D numerical investigation is preliminarily carried out and then real-scale loading tests with tunnel lining section specimens are performed on the condition given by the numerical investigation. In the test, a concentrated load is applied for considering a released ground load or rock wedge load. Through this study, it appears that the single-shell lining takes the load-bearing capacity 20% higher than in case of the double-shell lining. In addition, a possibility of a composite single-shell shotcrete layer composed by multiple bonded layers partly involving different contents of high-capacity additives is shown thereby leading to use of less amount of the high-capacity additives on the condition of taking a similar load-bearing capacity.

  • In a shotcrete support system, the cooperation of the ground and the shotcrete lining makes it possible to transfer the shear stress to the shotcrete lining, which is dedicated to form a stable structure. In this study, a homogeneous model ground with constant strength was produced by using gypsum and the tunnel was excavated with a top heading method under the definite initial stress. During the excavation, the stress in the ground around the tunnel and the deformation of shotcrete lining were measured, The tensile stress was generated in tangential direction in the ground near the tunnel and in the shotcrete lining due to tunnel excavation. This shows the unified behavior of the ground and shotcrete lining, which is the most typical characteristic of the shotcrete support. As a result, the rates of in-situ stress during the excavation at a top boundary line was 9% and at top arch heading 15%. It was 48% right after excavating the heading and 94% before cutting the bench.

  • The damage of the tunnel lining on the cold regions can be represented by cracks and leaks caused by freezing of ground water. However, domestically, the relevant construction guidelines are not provided so far. Thus, in this research, the mechanical behavior and thermal conductivity of designated tunnel area are measured using instrumentation system installed in the lining concrete inside tunnels in order to analysis their behavior with regard to temperature variations. Previous research mainly focused on the effect of temperature on the tunnel lining based on the air and initial ground temperature at urban regions. Thus, this study analyzes effects of air temperature and initial ground temperature of designated tunnel area at the cold regions. The temperature of the groundwater at the backfill of the tunnel lining are analyzed to evaluate the heating element. Numerical analyses are performed to evaluate the heating element with regard to the various initial ground temperatures.
