터널 붕괴사례로 부터의 기술적 교훈 (Technical lessons learnt from the case history of tunnel collapses)

  • In this study, a database composed by 46 cases of tunnel collapses has been built up. Based on the database, comprehensive data analysis is carried out, providing us a number of the technical lessons, which can be considered in future design and construction to minimize possibility of tunnel collapse disaster. For making a better understanding, the technical lessons are given in two divisions: mountain tunnel and urban tunnel. Tunnel collapses taking place in the former tunnel are generally due to bad discontinuity condition of jointed rock mass. Otherwise, urban tunnel has weak condition generally on ground water and weathering of ground. Most of technical comments given in this paper are made based on the cases of tunnel collapses only used in this study, so that the comments seems to be hard to be available to all the tunnelling cases. However, the comment should be valuable technical lessons for tunnel engineers to consider in tunnel design or construction.

  • 최근들어 터널건설이 증가하고 있다. 이러한 터널건설 증가와 더불어 터널시공중 붕락발생 빈도도 증가하고 있다. 이와 비례하여 터널 입 출구부 사면부 변상 발생후 터널내부까지 과다변위를 발생시키는 사례 또한 자주 발생하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 터널시공 사례를 분석하여 갱구부 사면변상과 터널내부 변위를 발생시키는 요인들을 조사하였고 그중 특히 국부적인 단층파쇄대와 강우가 직접적인 붕락을 발생시키는 요인으로 분석되었다.

  • In this study, a case study, where a hazard management for tunnel collapses has been quantitatively undertaken based on the KICT Tunnel Hazard(KTH) index, is presented. From this, it was able to timely inform the field engineers when the more detailed investigation is required for checking if any risky factor is shown on the tunnel face. At the same time, variable additional information such as sensitivities of major influence factors are also provided to field engineers from the methodology given in this study. The additional information would be helpful for better understanding of tunnel hazard level at the current tunnelling stage and following the required actions for more detailed checks of risky factors.

  • Collapse was one of the typical common geological hazards during the construction of tunnels. The risk assessment of collapse was an effective way to ensure the safety of tunnels. We established a prediction model of collapse based on Bayesian Network. 76 large or medium collapses in China were analyzed. The variable set and range of the model were determined according to the statistics. A collapse prediction software was developed and its veracity was also evaluated. At last the software was used to predict tunnel collapses. It effectively evaded the disaster. Establishing the platform can be subsequent perfect. The platform can also be applied to the risk assessment of other tunnel engineering.

국내외 터널 붕락의 지반공학적 특징에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Geotechnical Characteristics of Tunnel Collapse)

  • 본 논문에서는 국내외 터널 붕락사례를 바탕으로 붕락 발생시의 지반특징에 관해 분석하였다. 국내의 경우에는 대부분 연암 및 풍화암이 터널 막장 전면에 존재한 경우 굴착에 기인한 응력의 재배치로 인해 막장의 전단강도가 가장 취약한 면을 따라 국부적 또는 전변에 걸친 붕괴가 일어나며 풍화를 심하게 받은 파쇄대을 따라 발파나 굴착으로 인하여 터널 안정성을 상실, 터널 붕괴를 유발하는 것이 특정으로 나타났다. 유럽의 경우 지반이 상대적으로 신선하지만 하나의 절리군에 의한 붕락도 발생하였고 RQD 지수가 50% 이상의 양호한 암반에서도 붕락이 발생하였으며 지하수의 유출도 분류 범위 내에서 고루 발생한 것이 특징이다.

  • The NATM(New Austrian Tunnelling Method) has been used for tunnelling since 1980's. But Collapses of tunnel under construction take place frequently, especially at urban areas because of adjacent buildings, underground conduits and traffic loads. This paper is a case study on the reinforcement method of subway tunnel at urban areas. In this study, ground inspection, geological investigation, laboratory test and numerical analysis by means of FDM program were carried out. The tunnel excavation was stopped because of over excessive brake of tunnel crown and shotcrete was installed to prevent deformation of adjacent ground as the temporary method. From the result of field survey and geological investigation, it is found that the soft weathered soil was distributed to the ground of tunnel invert unlike original investigation. The results of the analysis and the study show that the SGR(Space Grouting Rocket) method and Umbrella method can be applied for the stability of tunnel excavation and in addition the reinforcement of concrete lining is required for long-term stability of tunnel.

  • The demand of tunnels has been increased for the linear improvement of general national highway, and road construction and/or enlargement in Korea. Also, the collapses of tunnel portal slope have been increased in recent due to heavy rain caused by global warming. Therefore, it has been risen the requirement of system for the stability of tunnel portal slope in Korea as well as all over the world. The objective of this research is to develop an effective maintenance system for supervising the tunnel portal slope. This paper is a basic proposal to execute a survey on the current status and state of the tunnel portal slopes that were already installed along general national highways.

  • Recently, accelerating population and advanced economy result in extending old freeways and constructing new freeways. To make a good freeway shape, tunnel constructions are also rapidly increasing. Therefore, a possibility of a collapse during a tunnel excavation is getting higher in a proportionate manner. This research paper will analyze forms and causes of the collapses for different geological conditions and applied reinforcement solutions by investigating typical collapse sites during highway tunnel constructions.

  • In September 2007, the collapses of slopes and landslides are happened at Jeonlanamdo due to heavy rains accompanied with Typoon "Nari". The study area is the tunnel portal slope in new road construction site. This slope consists of pyroclastic rocks and has lots of faults. Particularly, the residual soils of the slope is deteriorated with yellowish mudstone layer as a results of chemical and physical weathering. This has a variety of swelling clay minerals and might be moved easily down at the gentle terrain. The inner factor of $\bigcirc\bigcirc$tunnel portal slope's collapse is the geological weak zone, the convergent topography, the inferiority of drainage and the heavy rain act on the failure as direct trigger.

  • 최근 들어 인구증가와 경제발전에 따른 고속도로의 확장 또는 신설이 급증하고 있고 양호한 노선을 위해 터널 건설도 급속도로 증가하고 있다. 이와 더불어 터널 시공 중 붕괴가 발생할 수 있는 경우도 상대적으로 높아지고 있다. 특히, 도로의 양호한 선형 확보를 위하여 지반조건이 불량한 구간에서 터널 굴착이 증가하므로 적절한 보강공법의 적용 없이 굴착을 실시하는 경우에 붕락이 자주 발생하였다. 본 논문에서는 고속도로 터널 시공 중 보편적인 붕괴 사례를 조사함으로써 다른 지질조건에서의 붕괴원인과 형태 및 적용 보강공법에 대해 분석하고자 한다.
