In this paper, we propose a novel architecture, which is based on DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform), for ME (Motion Estimation) and MC (Motion Compensation). The traditional algorithms of ME and MC based on DCT did not suffer the advantage of the coarseness of the 2-dimensional DCT (2-D DCT) coefficients to reduce the operational time. Therefore, we derive a recursion equation for transform-domain ME and MC and design the structure by using highly regular, parallel, and pipeline processing elements. The main difference with others is removing the IDCT block by using to transform domain. Therefore, the performance of our algorithm is more efficient in practical image processing such as DVR (Digital Video Recorder) system. We present the simulation result which is compare with the spatial domain methods. it shows reducing the calculation cost. compression ratio. and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR).
This paper proposes a novel wavelet transform based technique for prediction of System Marginal Price(SMP). In this paper, Daubechies D1(haar), D2, D4 wavelet transforms are adopted to predict SMP and the numerical results reveal that certain wavelet components can effectively be used to identify the SMP characteristics with relation to the system demand in electric power systems. The wavelet coefficients associated with certain frequency and time localisation are adjusted using the conventional multiple regression method and then reconstructed in order to predict the SMP on the next scheduling day through a five-scale synthesis technique. The outcome of the study clearly indicates that the proposed wavelet transform approach can be used as an attractive and effective means for the SMP forecasting.
This paper proposes a novel wavelet transform and Kohonen neural network based technique for short-time load forecasting of power systems. Firstly. Kohonen Self-organizing map(KSOM) is applied to classify the loads and then the Daubechies D2, D4 and D10 wavelet transforms are adopted in order to forecast the short-term loads. The wavelet coefficients associated with certain frequency and time localisation are adjusted using the conventional multiple regression method and then reconstructed in order to forecast the final loads through a four-scale synthesis technique. The outcome of the study clearly indicates that the proposed composite model of Kohonen neural network and wavelet transform approach can be used as an attractive and effective means for short-term load forecasting.
This paper proposes a novel wavelet transform based algorithm for the seasonal load forecasting. In this paper, Daubechies DB2, DB4 and DB10 wavelet transforms are adopted to predict the seasonal loads and the numerical results reveal that certain wavelet components can effectively be used to identify the load characteristics in electric power systems. The wavelet coefficients associated with certain frequency and time localization are adjusted using the conventional multiple regression method and then reconstructed. In order to forecast the final loads through a four-scale synthesis technique. The outcome of the study clearly indicates that the wavelet transform approach can be used as an attractive and effective means of the seasonal load forecasting.
In this paper, a medical images retrieval method using feature extraction based on wavelet transform is proposed. We used energy of coefficients which is represented by wavelet transform. The proposed retrieval algorithm is comprised of the two retrieval. At first, we make a energy map for wavelet coefficient of a query image and then compare is to one of db image. And then we use an edge information of the query image to retrieve the images selected at the first retrieval once more. Consequently some retrieved images are displayed on screen.
Melamine is a chemical intermediate to manufacture amino resins and plastics, which cannot be used as food additive since it can cause kidney stones. A qualitative determination method of melamine residue in powdered and liquid milk was developed using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic technique. The calibration sets consisted of 21 standard melamine solutions, in which 1% trichloroacetic acid aqueous solution and acetonitrile (3:1, v/v) were used as solvent. The model was validated using 10 standard melamine solutions which were unused to build up the calibration set. Infrared (IR) absorbance peaks specific to almost all chemical groups in melamine molecule were shown in the spectral range between 1,100 and 1,800/cm. Combined partial least squares (PLS)-$2^{nd}$ derivative calibration model coupled with mean centering (MC) mathematical enhancement showed the highest correlation coefficients ($R^2$>0.99). In brief, the FTIR technique can be used for quantitative analysis of melamine in milk samples.
This Paper presents a high impedance fault (HIF) detection algorithm of distribution systems using wavelet transform. Two HIFs on dry soil and sandy soil were simulated on various load conditions in 22.9 kV distribution systems using EMTP, and the current wavelets were decomposed by wavelet transform. The current root mean square(rms) change, the index change rate and the relative amplitude change were used as the multi-criteria for a HIF detection. The index change rate and the relative amplitude were made using the wavelet coefficients.
Identification of vibration parameters from the analysis of the dynamic response of a structure plays a key role in current health monitoring systems. This study evaluates the capabilities of the recently developed Synchrosqueezed Wavelet Transform (SWT) to extract instant frequencies and damping values from the simulated noise-contaminated response of a structure. Two approaches to estimate the modal damping ratio from the results of the SWT are presented. The results obtained are compared to other signal processing methods based on Continuous Wavelet (CWT) and Hilbert-Huang (HHT) transforms. It was found that the time-frequency representation obtained via SWT is sharped than the obtained using just the CWT and it allows a more robust extraction of the individual modal responses than using the HHT. However, the identification of damping ratios is more stable when the CWT coefficients are employed.

In this paper, we propose a new wavelet-based fuzzy modeling using a DNA coding method. Generally, it is well known that the DNA coding method is more diverse in the knowledge expression and better in the optimization performance than the genetic algorithm (GA) because it can encode more plentiful genetic informations based on the biological DNA. The proposed method can construct a fuzzy model using the wavelet transform, in which the coefficients are identified by the DNA coding method. Thus, we can effectively get the fuzzy model of the nonlinear system by using the advantages of both wavelet transform and DNA coding method. In order to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method, it is compared with modeling method using the conventional GA.
This paper proposes a method to improve video quality on images that have blocking artifacts at block boundary. Block image transform coding suffers from blocking artifact that is a main cause of degrading video quality because of the quantization error of transform coefficients in quantization process. filtering and DPCM for DC components have been widely used to reduce blocking artifact. Recently, lots of works focus on the technique that minimizes block effects using discontinuity of block boundaries. In this paper, image blurring in decoding stage is improved by adding compensation factor to each transformed blocks so that discontinuity of block boundaries can be decreased. The compensation factor is applied on each block without much loss of edge components.
