  • In this paper, X/Ku band waveguide diplexers with H-plane T-junction for satellite communication systems is proposed and its characteristics is cinfirmed. Two frequency bands such as X(7.25 ~ 8.4 GHz) and Ku(12.25 ~ 14.5 GHz) can be separated by the proposed waveguide diplexers. A diplexers is normally including low pass filter, high pass filter and junction waveguide. To simplify the structure of the proposed diplexers, the proposed waveguide diplexers is using impedance matching technique on H-plane of the high pass filter without low pass filter. To use vertical and horizontal polarization, the proposed diplexers with orthomode transducer(OMT) characteristics is also designed. Therefore, it is confirmed that the proposed waveguide diplexers can be used as dual-band and dual-polarization diplexers for satellite communication feed systems.

  • Objective: This reliability study examined the effects of applying varying induced inward pressures using a transducer placed at 0° neutral ankle position (NEU) and 15° ankle dorsiflexion (DF) on tibialis anterior (TA) muscle thickness using a custom-made device with a force indicator during rehabilitative ultrasound imaging. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-four healthy subjects were recruited in this study. Two examiners measured the muscle thickness of the TA at 0° NEU and 15° DF in 3 conditions of inward pressures (1.0 N, 2.0 N, and 4.0 N) using a custom-made holder. The muscle thickness was measured three times for each of the conditions arranged in random order. For intra- and inter-rater reliability, the intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) with 95% confidence intervals, standard error of measurement, minimal detectable change, and coefficient of variation were analyzed. One-way repeated measures analysis of variance was conducted for investigating changes of TA muscle thickness according to the inward pressures of the transducers. Results: The intra-rater reliability of TA muscle thickness measurement was excellent (ICC3,1: 0.92-0.96) for all conditions (at both ankle joint angles per varying inward pressure). Likewise, the inter-rater reliability of TA muscle thickness measurement was excellent (ICC2,1: 0.89-0.97) under same conditions. The mean of TA thickness showed the trend of decreasing significantly with increased inward pressures at all ankle joint angles (p<0.05). Conclusions: Use of this custom-made device with a force indicator is useful to accomplish the high intra- and inter-rater reliability of TA muscle thickness measurement at both ankle joint angles in reducing the measurement error.

  • Turbine rotor disc consists of disc, bore, keyway, hub, and rim in which the typical defects are located. And these part of disc has very complicated geometry, therefore proper transducer selection, wedge design, fabrication, classification and evaluation of the signal identification are required. In this research, test block with the artificial flaws at keyway and boresurface parts have been used in order to establish the ultrasonic inspection technique for flaw detectability on disc. The analysis of the signals from the test blocks was performed. The wedges were designed according to the curvature from the discs. All the ultrasonic signals were collected and identified for evaluation. The ultrasonic inspection technique for the flaw-detection was established from this research. And it is proved that the result of this research can be applicable in the field inspection.

  • A novel differential pressure sensor has been developed with silicon beams embedded in a silicone rubber membrane. The transducer is usable for most applications involving exposure to harsh media. A piezoresistive differential pressure sensor using silicone rubber membrane has been fabricated on the selectively diffused (100)-oriented n/n+/n silicon substrates by a unique silicon micro-machining technique using porous silicon etching. The pressure sensitivity is about $0.66\;{\mu}V/mmHg$ and the non-linearity is less than 0.1%.

  • Two-dimensional array hydrophones with $8{\times}8$ elements were designed and fabricated using the PVDF(Polyvinylidene fluoride) piezoelectric film, and the method and system for ultrasonic field measurement in several MHz $\sim$ tens of MHz band using the hydrophones was established. The characteristics of frequency response relating to the backing materials were analyzed with the Mason equivalent circuit for design, and the accuracy of ultrasonic field measurement relating to the sizes and kerfs of piezoelectric elements was discussed. Good results of the measurement of ultrasonic field formed by a circular plane transducer of 2.25MHz in water were obtained by the system with the array hydrophones.

  • In this paper, the ultraprecision positioning control of an ultrasonic linear motor in a high-vacuum environment is presented. The bolt-clamped Langivin type transducer (BLT) with the 3rd longitudinal; and 6th lateral vibration modes was developed, which was excited by using the Eigen resonance frequency for two vibration modes in order to generate stable and high power. In practical applications, however, even if a geometrical design has an Eigen frequency, discordance between both mode frequencies can be generated by the contact mechanism and because of manufacturing errors as well as environmental factors. Both mode frequencies were precisely matched by adjusting the impedence. By using this method, the BLT can be driven under any environmental conditions. The nominal characteristic trajectory following(NCTF) control method was adopted to control the positioning of the system in vacuum. The developed linear motor stage show high positioning accuracy with 5 nm.

  • In recent year, energy harvesting technologies from the ambient environments such as light, motion, wireless waves, and temperature again a lot of attraction form research community [1-5] due to its efficient solution in order to substitute for conventional power delivery methods, especially in wearable together with on-body applications. The drawbacks of battery-powered characteristic used in commodity applications lead to self-powered, long-lifetime circuit design. Thermoelectric generator, a solid-state sensor, is useful compared to the harvesting devices in order to enable self-sustained low-power applications. TEG based on the Seebeck effect is utilized to transfer thermal energy which is available with a temperature gradient into useful electrical energy. Depending on the temperature difference between two sides, amount of output power will be proportionally delivered. In this work, we illustrated a low-input voltage energy harvesting circuit applied discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) method for getting an adequate amount of energy from thermoelectric generator (TEG) for a specific wearable application. With a small temperature gradient harvested from human skin, the input voltage from the transducer is as low as 60mV, the proposed circuit, fabricated in a $0.6{\mu}m$ CMOS process, is capable of generating a regulated output voltage of 4.2V with an output power reaching to $40{\mu}W$. The proposed circuit is useful for powering energy to battery-less systems, such as wearable application devices.

  • Since the detection probability is critically dependent on the target strength (TS) in active sonar and on the radiated noise level (RNL) in passive sonar, the acoustic materials for echo reduction (ER) and transmission loss (TL) are widely used for the stealth of underwater targets. In this paper, a measurement system based on the small water tank, for the frequency range of greater than 30 kHz, is developed and verified using reference targets. In order to design the water tank and the geometry of test samples, a program is developed to calculate the arrival time of interfering signals due to the reflection from water tank walls and also due to the diffraction from the edge of the test samples. Considering all the interfering signals, an optimal experimental configuration for water tank and test samples is designed and used throughout the experiment. Next, the signal processing algorithms to estimate ER and TL are developed based on the measured propagation loss reflecting the geometric spreading characteristics of the transducer. Finally, a set of reference targets such as aluminium plate and perfectly reflecting plate are used in a small water tank to verify the developed measurement system.

  • A speaker diaphragm generates a divided vibration. The influence of the break-up mode is sufficient to cause a shape change in the diaphragm. In this paper, is widely used in ultra-thin multi-media devices, including smart phones is the advance guard of the IT sector, the micro-speakers and its target. Micro-speakers are different from general speakers. The plate has structural form and space constraints. In particular, they utilize a closed-type drive space. It is difficult to provide cooling for the auxiliary suspension structure because of the heat generated in the moving coil. The present study considered the relationship between the break-up mode and the heat transfer of the diaphragm. An experiment was conducted in two stages to compare the embodiment of the break-up mode and heat transfer in a certain frequency range. The changes in the heat were determined through measurements and thermal imaging of the break-up mode. The break-up mode tendency of the diaphragm could be rapidly predicted based on the imaging results using the thermal imaging camera. This will help in the optimal design of micro-speakers.

  • Recently, due to the increasing interests in deep sea development, all possible efforts to the development of underwater unmanned working vehicles such as AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) or underwater robot are exerted. This paper proposes a new efficient acoustic-based underwater image data communication system, which ensures a certain level of maximum throughput regardless of the propagation delay of ultrasonic and allowsfast data transmission through the multiple ultrasonic communication channel. Proposed system consists of an acoustic transducer which operates at 136kHz center frequency and it's 10kHz bandwidth, pre-amplifier, $\pi/4 QPSK$(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulation/demodu-lation method, image compressing method using JPEG technique and modified Stop & Wait protocol. The experimental result of the system make it possible to transfer the underwater image as a high throughput at the basin test. The results of test are also verified which allows to desirable transmission performance compared with the existing developed system and the possibility to put the practical use of survey and investigation in the water.
