In his non-hierarchical approach to art making, Robert Irwin questions how art is made. In the process, he seems to come down on both sides of the Modernism versus Postmodernism debate. Insofar as he wants to advance the avant garde tenets of modern art, he can be thought of as a modernist. But insofar as he denies Modernism's claims for transcendental status, he can be thought of as a postmodernist. Irwin's light and space environments, in particular, are conditioned by their basic attachments to their surroundings. They reveal the commonplace, but largely overlooked, richness of visual perception. By encouraging his viewers to open their eyes, Irwin wants them to engage in an act of looking, one that manipulates the basic syntax of seeing. This paper discusses Irwin's contributions to the art of his time (basically the transitional period between Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism) using as an example a light and space environment he created as the backdrop for the "First National Symposium on Habitability." This work was later reprised in 1980 as an independent installation. These works are examined to show how Irwin's art displaces modernist notions of authoritative (and authoritarian) quality with postmodernist ideas of direct (and demotic) value.

This essay questions and attempts to answer why and how Shakespeare set his plays in time and space other than his own England. Bakhtin's concept of chronotope as integrated time-space offers a model of establishing "a historical poetics." Shakespeare's chronotope has been either negated as mere names for transcendental ideas by universalists, or reduced to a "cover" for contemporary England by historicists. Refuting such either/or approach, this essay claims chronotopic dynamics of both/and as Shakespeare's intentional poetics of ambiguity. While Shakespeare clearly wants to build fictional chronotope distant from reality and does so through verbal repetition, character names, alternation of locales and speaking directly to the audience, he also brings in reality through the figure of clowns and the theatrical space of platea. Anachronism and topological errors ensuing from chronotopic collision register desire to produce multiple meanings. Shaped by historical forces such as Renaissance poetics, education, censorship and new geography, chronotopic form itself is a witness of historicity as much as the coded ideological messages New Historicists industriously delve out. Shakespeare's chronotopic dynamism offers the space for dialogue and appropriation to modern readers, a practice no less worthwhile than history lesson.

The 21st century is a multiplication age and social and cultural phenomena have become diverse and peoples' desires and individuality have become important. Accordingly, the sensibility that reflects human taste is also required in the exhibition space. The exhibitions in this age induce the direct cognition of senses or take interactive forms that contact diverse media and react. The purpose of this research is to define the concept of haptic presentation method in which the audience perceive in the exhibition space by themselves and the visual elements spread into other senses and perceive complexly, and to present the directional nature. To conduct this research, first, this researcher recognized that haptic sensory experiential research by analyzing the roles and transition history of exhibition space is needed for the present age Second, based on philosophical theories, four haptic sensory expression characteristics (medium nature, experiential nature, attractiveness, sensitiveness) were derived by substituting Giles Deleuze's four haptic spatial characteristics (grasping short distance, dispersed gaze, cognition of bodily movement, formation of synesthesia through complex senses) and six formative factors of exhibition space (space, form, size, light, quality of materials, and color). And the effective exhibition presentation methods were analyzed through six cases of experiential exhibition spaces. Accordingly, what matters in the experiential exhibition space is to produce the four characteristics: medium nature, experientiality, attractiveness, and sensitiveness in equilibrium. It is necessary for the designers to reflect it appropriately in producing so that the audience can think and experience by themselves. Accordingly, in this thesis, it could be seen that to produce the haptic production characteristics in the experiential exhibition space in equilibrium is the important factor in the experiential exhibition space. In conclusion, experiences in the exhibition space should be approached with the transcendental haptic presentation method by which even the space of actually unexperienced cognition can be expanded and experienced through the metastasis and tension of various senses. Also, researches on such senses should be developed continuously, and this researcher expects that this will become a stimulant to present a new directivity.

The aspects of contemporary society change have been changed rapidly running for function value on the part of part industrialization and information-oriented. The transfer to the society focused on a human being emphasis and symbol value is in progress rising with natural desire of recurrence of human nature accordingly and desires of a human being inborn of sensitivity-oriented and pluralism-oriented are being expressed. Answering these social and cultural demands, concerns about an arbitrary mind world of a human being and pursuit dispositions about impractical and transcendental world are coincided with to the purpose and so various kinds of expressions except for art sphere are being experimented and applied. Here upon also in the field of the contemporary interior design, answering sensual desire of users, various arts and cultural tendency, the concept of surrealism is being applied in design introducing the concept of surrealism positive. And fantastical and unreasonable expression features of surrealism are being used as subjective essential elements to make new spaces. Especially amoung various kinds of the interiors designs, the features like surrealistic expressions in Food & Beverage Space which proper identity and strong symbolism will be expressed can be recognized as appropriate expression patterns to give still more sensitivity stimuli to customers. Thus this research disclosed conceptual and ideological background of surrealism and also analyzed and studied surrealistic expression features applied to the interiors designs of Contemporary Food & Beverage Space through expression disposition, study and classification of techniques. And standing on the result of analyzing surrealistic expression features of Contemporary Food & Beverage Space with a key word of expression features derived we groped for estatescape trend demanded in Food & Beverage Space and direction coming.

This paper studies the problem of computing the Hankel singular values and vectors in the input delay systems. It is shown that the Hankel singular values are solutions to a transcendental equation and the Hankel singular vectors are obtained from the kernel of the matrix. The computation is carried out in state space framework. Finally, Hankel approximation of a simple example shows the usefulness of this study.

This paper aims to introduce and understand critically the work of Edward Soja, mainly the First part of the which develops his own concepts, such as 'synekism', 'trialectics of space', 'regionality' and 'geohistory'. Most of all, in explaining Geohistory, he emphasizes three 'Urban revolutions': First Urban revolutions in Jericho and ÇatalHüyük, which shows first synekism as proto urban society, Second in Ur and other Sumerian cities where appeared a concentrated power of central government and its transcendental ideologies, and Third in Manchester and in Chicago, typical capitalist cities. These three urban revolutions don't correspond to the established historical periodization. In order to understand these revolutions, it is necessary to comprehend the concept of 'machine' of G. Deleuze and F. Guattari, inspired, in fact, by Lewis Mumford - Primitive Territorial machine, Barbaric Despotic machine, and Civilized Capitalist machine. However, these periodization and concepts of E. Soja have to be applied very cautiously in accordance with concrete historical sources, avoiding theoretical distortion on positivity of historical facts.

The Purpose of this study is to look for the total conspectus of Roo-Jong(RJ) Architecture in the middle and latter era of Koryo Dynasty. The method of this study is the review of old literature, the Roo-Jung description of Dong-Mun-Sun, which had compiled in the Ninth year of Seung-Jong (AD 1478) by confucian scholar. The conclusions of this study can be summarized as follows : 1) The main currents of thought having a great influence on the RJ are thought of Mountain God (or Sin Sun, which is dwelling in mountain) or Taoist, thought of Lao-tzu and Chuang-tzu. They had required the RJ Architecture to pursuit the life of God. In this existence value meaning, the RJ Architecturethe is the semi-sacred & profane space. In the being aspect, RJ is the transcendental architecture. 2) The way of life of in the RJ had strongly turned from the personal space, mainly mind control place, into the friendship-society space, pastime place. 3) The RJ had located after the images that is what should be. The images were formed on the ground of natural landscape elements, communication elements. And these elements were indicated on one's visual, auditorial sensation with oneself. 4) In planning aspect, the scope of visual, Pungsu and history were aided with the factors of climate, topography and geography. Specially in location and fabric planning, they had regarded more important the objects and scope of visual than the climate factor.

In 21st century, subordinated relationship of fashion from the body has been disappearing, and fashion is understood as variable and creative field. This research aims at analysis about the relationship between the body and fashion depending on the theories about the authority and the desire. So, this utilizes between theoretical study and empirical analysis. For concentrated study, research period limits from 2000 to the present time 2010. Contemporary body and fashion have being changed into various forms and values, become complex and de-territory. Especially, body is symbol of ambivalence eroticism that gives point to sexual property, and the object of fetishism and machine having a desire. This study's purpose draw a parallel with between the limits of contemporary body that couldn't be rid of the capital and desire, and the liberty of fashion that escape from the body's influence has being changed independent and fluid space. This research's results are as follow as; contemporary de-territory fashion is expressed as 1) symbol of the object and physical material property, 2) self-transcendental instrument fashion, 3) independent spatial molding, 4) de-centering fashion.

This paper examines 'an active nihilism' in Suk-je Sung's novels in detail. The focus of this study is formed from the critical mind in a critical perspective that in Korean novels before and after 2000s, characters who embody 'problematic individuals' of $Luk{\acute{a}}cs$ have disappeared and those close to 'active nihilists' has become the mainstream. The most representative example of this phenomenon is Suk-je Sung's novels. 'Active nihilists' in his novels are described as 'ascetics' who mastered various spheres such as 'billiard', 'baduk gambling', 'alcohol', 'dance', and 'book collecting', and so on. In the sense that they reject the transcendental conditions of the modern world and live in the space and time of play in which they can display their passion and potentiality to the maximum, they beings jumping over the 'reality principle'. Also, what they want to repeat is not the endless exchange of labor and capital according to the capitalist system of exchange but rather the repeated existence of their power and passion. This 'anthropology of power and passion' is 'active nihilism' which could be expressed as the 'subject of creating new value' and 'Dionysian affirmation' by Nietzsche. Suk-je Sung's novels sharply prove the stylistic essence of 'a novel' which has to create its own form every time, constantly renewing the narrative style of the past ideal model. In this respect, they are very problematic and his innovation of a form draws the attention. Further, this will certainly be the important object of research in the diachronic dimension of contemporary Korean novel.

본 논문은 근대 공간론들의 기하학적-수학적 이념을 해명하였다. 근대 공간론들은 점, 선, 면, 입방체 등의 연장 개념을 중요한 기반으로 채택하여 공간과 인간의 관계를 해명하면서 공간을 자연적인 실재로 규정하거나 주관적 관념 또는 형식으로 규명하였다. 근대 공간론들의 성과는 공간을 인간에게 근접시켰다는 점이다. 하나는 공간이 경험적으로 눈앞에 펼쳐져 측량될 수 있는 형태를 가지고 있다는 자연 공간의 의미이다. 다른 하나는 공간이 세계를 구성하고 자연을 이해하는 주관의 방식이고 형식이라는 인식 공간의 의미이다. 이런 의미들 속에서 근대 공간론들은 공간의 동질성 및 공간의 기하학적 해석을 고찰하고 체계화하였다. 근대의 공간론은 네 유형들로 구분될 수 있다. 첫째는 공간이 사물에 앞서 존재한다는 뉴턴의 절대 공간론이고, 둘째는 반대의 입장에서 공간을 모나드들의 공존 관계로 파악하는 라이프니츠의 상대 공간론이며, 셋째는 공간과 물질을 동일한 존재로 파악하는 데카르트의 연장 공간론이다. 넷째는 공간을 주관의 인식 형식으로 파악하는 칸트의 선험 공간론이다. 근대 공간론들은 공간의 본질을 수학적-기하학적인 측정 가능한 연장으로 파악한다는 점에서 공통점에도 불구하고 공간의 원천에 대해서 서로 대립된 태도를 보여준다. 이러한 대립 속에서 근대 공간론은 인간과 공간 사이의 관련성을 재조명하고 있다. 본 연구는 상이한 공간개념들을 자연 공간과 인식 공간으로 분류하여 그 차이를 분석하면서, 근대 공간론의 근원적인 의미를 성찰하였다. 근대 공간론들은 한편으로 인간의 공간소외를 초래한 원천이지만 다른 편으로 인간과 공간 사이의 관련성을 일깨운 단서를 제공하고 있다. 자연 공간은 공간이 외적 실재로서 구획되고 정돈될 수 있다는 것을 증시하였다. 이에 반해서 인식 공간은 공간이 자연과 세계를 이해하며 구성하는 인간의 주관적인 관념 또는 주관적 형식임을 제시한다. 전자가 공간이 인간과 무관하게 자연 법칙에 따라 측정되고 활용될 수 있다는 점을 부각하였다면, 후자는 공간이 인간과 분리해서 다루어질 수 없으며, 인간이 없으면 공간도 없다는 공간과 인간의 공속적인 관계를 증시한다. 이러한 근대 공간론들 속에는 인문주의적 이상이 선언되고 있다. 자연에 대한 인간의 주권의 선언이다. 그러나 이러한 주권 선언은 공간으로부터 인간을 소외시키는 계기를 제공하였다.
