Trajectory planning is a key technology for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to achieve complex flight missions. In this paper, a terminal constraints conversion-based Gauss pseudospectral trajectory planning optimization method is proposed. Firstly, the UAV trajectory planning mathematical model is established with considering the boundary conditions and dynamic constraints of UAV. Then, a terminal constraint handling strategy is presented to tackle terminal constraints by introducing new penalty parameters so as to improve the performance index. Combined with Gauss-Legendre collocation discretization, the improved Gauss pseudospectral method is given in detail. Finally, simulation tests are carried out on a four-quadrotor UAV model with different terminal constraints to verify the performance of the proposed method. Test studies indicate that the proposed method performances well in handling complex terminal constraints and the improvements are efficient to obtain better performance indexes when compared with the traditional Gauss pseudospectral method.
We propose time-optimal cornering motion trajectory planning and control algorithms for differential wheeled mobile robot with motor actuating voltage constraint, under piecewise constant control input condition. For time-optimal cornering trajectory generation, 1) we considered mobile robot's dynamics including actuator motors, 2) divided the cornering trajectory into one liner section, followed by two cornering section with angular acceleration and deceleration, and finally one liner section, and 3) formulated an efficient trajectory generation algorithm satisfying the bang-bang control principle. Also we proposed an efficient trajectory control algorithm and implemented with an X-bot to prove the performance.
We develop an automatic trajectory planning system (ATPS) for painting robots by proposing a new trajectory planning scheme. The new scheme considers geometric modeling, painting mechanics, and robot dynamics to output an optimal trajectory (in the sense of coating thickness and painting time) based on the CAD data describing the shape of objects, The new scheme is implemented in SUN/4 workstation to develop an ATPS for painting robots. To test the validity of the new scheme and to illustrate the developed system, numerous runs are performed and analyzed.
An AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) is an unmanned underwater vessel to investigate sea environments and deep sea resource. To be completely autonomous, AUV must have the ability to home and dock to the launcher. In this paper, we consider a class of homing trajectory planning problem for an AUV with kinematic and tactical constraints in horizontal plane. Since the AUV under consideration has underactuated characteristics, trajectory for this kind of AUV must be designed considering the underactuated characteristics. Otherwise, the AUV cannot follow the trajectory. Proposed homing trajectory panning method that called VGM (Virtual Goal Method) based on visibility graph takes the underactated characteristics into consideration. And it guarantees shortest collision free trajectory. For tracking control, we propose a PD controller by simple guidance law. Finally, we validate the trajectory planning algorithm and tracking controller by numerical simulation and ocean engineering basin experiment in KORDI.
This paper presents a trajectory planning algorithm for TMR (Two-wheeled Mobile Robots). The trajectory is developed in joint space and considers the physical limits of a TMR. First, we present a process for generating a smooth curve through a Bezier curve. The trajectory for the center of the TMR following the Bezier curve is developed through a convolution operator taking into consideration its physical limits. The trajectory along the Bezier curve is regenerated using time-dependent parameters which correspond to the distance driven by the velocity of the center of the TMR in a sampling time. The velocity commands in the Cartesian space are converted to actuator commands for two wheels. In case that the actuator commands exceed the maximum velocity, the trajectory is redeveloped with compensated center velocity. We also suggest a smooth trajectory planning algorithm in joint space for the two segmented paths. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithm is shown through numerical examples and application to a simulator.
A minimum-time trajectory planning for two robot arms with designated paths and coordination is proposed. The problem considered in this paper is a subproblem of hierarchically decomposed trajectory planning approach for multiple robots : i) path planning, ii) coordination planning, iii) velocity planning. In coordination planning stage, coordination space, a specific form of configuration space, is constructed to determine collision region and collision-free region, and a collision-free coordination curve (CFCC) passing collision-free region is selected. In velocity planning stage, normal dynamic equations of the robots, described by joint angles, velocities and accelerations, are converted into simpler forms which are described by traveling distance along collision-free coordination curve. By utilizing maximum allowable torques and joint velocity limits, admissible range of velocity and acceleration along CFCC is derived, and a minimum-time velocity planning is calculated in phase plane. Also the planning algorithm itself is converted to simple numerical iterative calculation form based on the concept of neural optimization network, which gives a feasible approximate solution to this planning problem. To show the usefulness of proposed method, an example of trajectory planning for 2 SCARA type robots in common workspace is illustrated.
In this study, we propose a practical path planning method that combines the A* search algorithm and minimum snap trajectory generation. The A* search algorithm determines a set of waypoints to avoid collisions with surrounding obstacles from a starting to a destination point. Only essential waypoints (waypoints necessary to generate smooth trajectories) are extracted from the waypoints determined by the A* search algorithm, and an appropriate time between two adjacent waypoints is allocated. The waypoints so determined are connected by a smooth minimum snap trajectory, a dynamically executable trajectory for the quadrotor. If the generated trajectory is invalid, we methodically determine when intermediate waypoints are needed and how to insert the points to modify the trajectory. We verified the performance of the proposed method by various simulation experiments and a real-world experiment in a forested outdoor environment.
Robot usually requires spline motion to move through multiple knots. In this paper, catmull-rom spline method is applied to the trajectory planning of industrial robot in task space. Centripetal catmull-rom is selected to avoid self-intersection and slow motion which can be occurred in uniform and chordal spline. The method to set two control points are proposed to satisfy velocity conditions of initial and final knots. To optimize robot motion, time scaling method is presented to minimize margin between real robot value and maximum value in velocity and acceleration. The simulation results show that the proposed methods are applied to trajectory planning and robot can follow the planned trajectory while robot motion does not exceed maximum value of velocity and acceleration.
Since nuclear and chemical materials could damage people and disturb battlefield missions in a wide region, nuclear/chemical reconnaissance systems utilizing multiple mobile robots are highly desirable for rapid and safe reconnaissance. In this paper, we design a nuclear/chemical reconnaissance system including mobile robots. Also we propose time-efficient trajectory planning algorithms using grid coverage and contour finding methods for reconnaissance operation. For grid coverage, we performed in analysis on time consumption for various trajectory patterns generated by straight lines and arcs. We proposed BCF (Bounded Contour Finding) and BCFEP (Bounded Contour Finding with Ellipse Prediction) algorithms for contour finding. With these grid coverage and contour finding algorithms, we suggest trajectory planning algorithms for single, two or four mobile robots. Various simulations reveal that the proposed algorithms improve time-efficiency in nuclear/chemical reconnaissance missions in the given area. Also we conduct basic experiments using a commercial mobile robot and verify the time efficiency of the proposed contour finding algorithms.
This paper describes the methods of spline low-order polynomial trajectory planning using only a few limited look-ahead knots on the desired trajectory for the real-time computing. Specifically presented are the mixed joint trajectory planning methods which apply linear or LSPB method to initial and finial segments, overlapped cubic spline method to the other segments, where the displacements for initial and finial segments are chosen to be relatively smaller than the displacements for the other, equidistant segments. Experimental and simulation results of these methods show smooth motions and improved path tracking performances compared with any other interpolated joint trajectory planning methods.
