  • In this paper, a numerical method for train/track/structure interaction analysis in frequency domain is developed. Track is modelled as continuous beams supported by elastomers. The motion of train is expressed by those of car body, bogies and unsprung masses supported by springs and dampers. The equation of motion for train and track interaction system is derived by applying compatibility condition at the contact points between wheels and rails. The Effects of rail pad stiffness on the behaviors of train and track are analyzed using the presented method.

  • A numerical method for the analysis of train/slab-track interaction on the settled roadbed is developed based on the already developed analysis method of train/ballast-track interaction. The concrete slabs composed of the upper track concrete layer and the lower hydraulic bonded layer are modelled by a equivalent beam. The supporting stiffness of roadbed is evaluated with the modified boussinesq method suggested by Eisenmann. The track irregularity and the gap between slab and roadbed induced by settlement of roadbed are calculated by the effective method newly presented in this study. The validation of the developed method is investigated by a numerical example. The effects of train speed on train and slab track on the settled roadbed with sinusoidal shape of wave length 20m and amplitude 20mm are reviewed.

  • In this paper, the simplified method for 2-dimensional train/track/bridge interaction analysis is utilized in the analysis of dynamic behavior of bridges in which the eccentricity of axle loads and the effect of the toriosnal forces acting on the bridge are included for the more accurate train/track/bridge interaction analysis. Inverstigations mainly into the influence of vehicle speed on train/track/bridge interactions are carried out for the two cases. The first case is that only train and bridge are considered in the modelling and the other case is that train, track and bridge are considered.

  • This paper represents the results carried out to determine the dynamic response characteristics of Korea High Speed Rail(KHSR) bridges. The responses of the KHSR bridges subjected to the moving train loading are obtained through the simplified method for the 2-dimensional train/track/bridge interaction analysis in which the eccentricity of axle loads and the effect of the torsional forces acting on the bridge are included for the more accurate train/track/bridge interaction analysis. The results of the analyses are compared with the field test data to verify the performance of the 2-dimensional train/track/bridge interaction analysis method.

  • In this paper, a numerical method for vehicle-track interaction analysis is developed to evaluate vertical dynamic force subjected to rail surface. A vehicle is modelled by lumped masses system and track by multi layered continuous beam system. The equation of motion of vehicle and track interaction system is derived by considering compatibility condition at the contact points between wheel and rail. The input vibration source is given by the empirical formula of power spectral density of track irregularity, which is suggested by FRA. Using this method, dynamic impact factors with the train speed are evaluated.

  • It is of great importance to assure the running safety and ride comfort in designing the floating slab track for the mitigation of train-induced vibration. In this paper, for this, analyzed are the system requirements for the running safety and ride comfort, and then, the behavior of train and track at the transition zone between the floating slab track and the conventional concrete slab track according to several main design variables such as spring constant, damping coefficient, spacing and arrangement of isolators and slab length, using the dynamic analysis technique considering the train-track interaction. The results of numerical analysis demonstrate that the discontinuity of the support stiffness at the transition results in a drastic increase of the vertical vibration acceleration of the train body, wheel-rail interaction force, rail bending stress and uplift force. The increase becomes higher with the decrease of the spring constant of isolators and the increase of the isolator spacing, but the damping ratio does not significantly affect the behavior of train and track at the transition. Therefore, to assure the running safety and ride comfort, simultaneously increasing the effectiveness of vibration isolation, it is effective to minimize the relative vertical offset between the floating slab and the conventional track slab by adjusting the spring constant and spacing of isolators at the transition.

  • Long continuous bridge deck can become contracted considerably as temperature drops, which can lead to a large expansion of sleeper span at the end of it. Since this huge sleeper span then can cause problems both with safety of train operation and structural stability of tracks, it is necessary to take the issue into consideration systematically in the designing process of the bridge. In this paper, an evaluation process through the analysis of train-track interaction was presented which can basically review the effects of the expansion of sleeper span at the end of long continuous bridge deck on the safety of the train and the structural stability of the track. The analyses of the interaction between the light rail train and tracks were carried out targeting the sleeper span as a main parameter. The safety of train operation and structural stability of tracks in a light rail system due to the expansion of the sleeper span were evaluated by comparing the numerical results with the related criteria.
