The traffic flow of a vehicle is an essential existence in a city, and is a part of a living aiming at the city citizen's activity. Hereafter, this flow will increase gradually, thus even a proper countermeasure against this will be required to arrange for. However, it will need to present a proper countermeasure against a threat of the roads surrounding a residential area where is a living space of the city citizen, being occurred according to this. It aims to maximize the effect of Traffic Calming technique through maintaining the special environment and facilities being possessed only by our country's living roads. This study did carry out and consider the analysis of a primary factor through a field survey, an experiment and SPSS, in relation to an issue of which influence of factors as for the domestic traffic environment different from a foreign country has on introducing and applying the technique of Traffic Calming to the domestic nation. As the results through the evaluation experiment and the primary-factor analysis, it could be seen being influenced largely by six factors such as a pedestrian's safety facilities which influence on the traffic environment in case of applying Traffic Calming, a mechanical factor to lower speed, a factor as to a street scene, a factor as to a pedestrian's passing condition given, a factor of a pedestrian's convenience and environment, and a visual factor of a vehicle's deceleration.

The validity of simulation has been well-established for decades in areas such as computer and communication system. Recently, the technique has become entrenched in specific areas such as transportation and traffic forecasting. Several methods have been proposed for investigating complex traffic flows. However, the dynamics of vehicles and their driver's characteristics, even though it is known that they are important factors for any traffic flow analysis, have never been considered sufficiently. In this paper, the traffic simulation using a multi-agent approach with considering vehicle dynamics is proposed. The multi-agent system is constructed with the traffic environment and the agents of vehicle and driver. The traffic environment consists of multi-lane roads, nodes, virtual lanes, and signals. To ensure the fast calculation, the agents are performed on the based of the rules to regulate their behaviors. The communication frameworks are proposed for the agents to share the information of vehicles' velocity and position. The model of a driver agent which controls a vehicle agent is described in the companion paper. The vehicle model contains the nonlinear subcomponents of engine, torque converter, automatic transmission, and wheels. The simulation has proceeded for an interrupted and uninterrupted flow model. The result has shown that the driver agent performs human-like behavior ranging from slow and careful to fast and aggressive driving behavior, and that the change of the traffic state is closely related with the distance and the signal delay between intersections. The system developed shows the effectiveness and the practical usefulness of the traffic simulation.
Recent measurement and simulation studies have revealed that wide area network traffic displays complex statistical characteristics-possibly multifractal scaling-on fine timescales, in addition to the well-known properly of self-similar scaling on coarser timescales. In this paper we investigate the performance and network engineering significance of these fine timescale features using measured TCP anti MPEG2 video traces, queueing simulations and analytical arguments. We demonstrate that the fine timescale features can affect performance substantially at low and intermediate utilizations, while the longer timescale self-similarity is important at intermediate and high utilizations. We relate the fine timescale structure in the measured TCP traces to flow controls, and show that UDP traffic-which is not flow controlled-lacks such fine timescale structure. Likewise we relate the fine timescale structure in video MPEG2 traces to sub-frame encoding. We show that it is possibly to construct a relatively parsimonious multi-fractal cascade model of fine timescale features that matches the queueing performance of both the TCP and video traces. We outline an analytical method ta estimate performance for traffic that is self-similar on coarse timescales and multi-fractal on fine timescales, and show that the engineering problem of setting safe operating points for planning or admission controls can be significantly influenced by fine timescale fluctuations in network traffic. The work reported here can be used to model the relevant characteristics of wide area traffic across a full range of engineering timescales, and can be the basis of more accurate network performance analysis and engineering.

This study investigates the effect on automobile traffic flow of the bike lane configuration via the road diet implemented in Nam-Gu, Busan using the microscopic simulator TransModeler. The results show that the increases in average delay time and stopped time experienced by automobile vehicles after implementing the road diet during the peak period are significant, but those during the non-peak period are insignificant at alpha=0.1. The results in peak period are consistent with the results of the past studies, which concluded that a road diet can contribute to deteriorating the level of service when the automobile traffic flow rate on the existing roadway is relatively high. For the non-peak period, the analysis results may reflect the fact that the automobile traffic flow is not severly affected by the road diet due to the reserved capacity.

Because of the continuous increase in the demand for and importance of marine space, marine exploration and survey activities are being actively conducted in Korea actively. Because the marine survey vessels used for these activities have special operational patterns depending on the purpose and probe vessels, research on maritime traffic risk is required. In this study, an attempt was made to determine the correlation of each factor with the effect of marine exploration and survey vessel operation on maritime traffic. The status of ocean exploration and survey vessels in operation in Korea was identified, as well as the special operational conditions of some of the ocean physical probes. Generally, the number of exploration and survey vessels involved per hour, total vessel length(including exploration equipment), operation, interval distance of exploration as per plan, and marine traffic conditions(traffic volume and speed) can be classified as operating factors. To compare the results of the environmental stress, a maritime traffic flow simulation based on the "ES" Model was performed with each of the identified operating factors as independent variables. The results of the analysis confirmed that the environmental stress significantly changed in the order of traffic volume, ship length and speed. In addition, it was confirmed that the environmental stress is reduced when the operation course is set at an angle with the nearby maritime traffic flow. Accordingly, it can help reduce the operator's burden if the survey vessel operator understands nearby maritime traffic conditions and reflects them in the operation method when setting the operation plan.
Busan New Port manages the largest volume of traffic among Korean ports, and accounts for 68.5% of the total volume of the Busan port. Due to this increase in volume, ultra large container ships call at Busan New Port. When the additional south container terminal as well as ongoing construction project of the west container terminal are completed, various encounters may occur at the Busan New Port entrance, which may cause collision risk.s Thus, the purpose of this study was to provide a plan to improve the safety of vessel traffic, in the in/out bound fairway of Busan New Port. For this purpose, the status of arrivals and departures of vessels in Busan New Port, was examined through maritime traffic flow analysis. Additionally, risk factors and safety measures were identified, by AHP analysis with ship operators of the study area. Also, based on the derived safety measures, scenarios were set using the Environmental Stress model (ES model), and the traffic risk level of each safety measure was identified through simulation. As a result, it is expected that setting the no entry area for one-way traffic would have a significant effect on mitigating risks at the Busan New Port entrance. This study can serve as a basis for preparing safety measures, to improve the navigation of vessels using Busan New Port. If safety measures are prepared in the future, it is necessary to verify the safety by using the traffic volume and flow changes according to the newly-opened berths.
Due to increasing interest in dispersion of traffic flows through providing traffic information, there has been much research of driver behavior and effectiveness of diversion. In this paper the authors intend to analyze how a diversion was determined and its effects through correlation analysis between diversion rates estimated by actual surveys and the traffic conditions. Through speed-flow analysis, the diversion mechanism was found. When travel speed decreased, detour volume increased. Then when the traffic volume was decreased through an increase of diversion and traffic conditions got better, the detour volume decreased again. In addition, the authors found negative correlation between the diversion rate and travel speed through correlation analysis. It shows that there were various relationships between diversion rates and traffic conditions according to congestion level and direction of traffic. Finally, it is suggested that the regression equation for calculating the diversion rate with the traffic flows, travel speed, and travel time as variables has a coefficient of determination of 38.5%. It means that traffic conditions on expressways take about 40% of driver's decision-making for diversion.

PURPOSES : The density in uninterrupted traffic flow facilities plays an important role in representing the current status of traffic flow. For example, the density is used for the primary measures of effectiveness in the capacity analysis for freeway facilities. Therefore, the estimation of density has been a long and tough task for traffic engineers for a long time. This study was initiated to evaluate the performance of density values that were estimated using VDS data and two traditional methods, including a method using traffic flow theory and another method using occupancy by comparing the density values estimated using vehicular trajectory data generated from a radar detector. METHODS : In this study, a radar detector which can generate very accurate vehicular trajectory within the range of 250 m on the Joongbu expressway near to Dongseoul tollgate, where two VDS were already installed. The first task was to estimate densities using different data and methods. Thus, the density values were estimated using two traditional methods and the VDS data on the Joongbu expressway. The density values were compared with those estimated using the vehicular trajectory data in order to evaluate the quality of density estimation. Then, the relationship between the space mean speed and density were drawn using two sets of densities and speeds based on the VDS data and one set of those using the radar detector data. CONCLUSIONS : As a result, the three sets of density showed minor differences when the density values were under 20 vehicles per km per lane. However, as the density values become greater than 20 vehicles per km per lane, the three methods showed a significant difference among on another. The density using the vehicular trajectory data showed the lowest values in general. Based on the in-depth study, it was found out that the space mean speed plays a critical role in the calculation of density. The speed estimated from the VDS data was higher than that from the radar detector. In order to validate the difference in the speed data, the traffic flow models using the relationships between the space mean speed and the density were carefully examined in this study. Conclusively, the traffic flow models generated using the radar data seems to be more realistic.

The Internet has become an essential part in our modern life by providing useful information. So, the volume of Internet traffic has been increasing rapidly, which emphasizes the importance of network traffic analysis for effective network operation and management. Signature based analysis have been commonly used, but it is shown that the increase of signatures due to the increase of applications causes the performance degradation of real-time traffic analysis on high-speed network links. In this paper, we propose OS fingerprinting method for real-time traffic analysis. The previous problems can be solved by utilizing the OS information. The OS fingerprinting method for real-time traffic analysis, proposed in this paper, conducts under passive mode, and improves the limitation of a previous method such as low completeness and accuracy. In this paper, we enlarged an input data to improve completeness, and used the User-Agent field in HTTP packet to extract various OS signatures. Also, we changed an input data from packet to flow to improve accuracy.
