The present study focused on the potential mechanism of betulin (BT), a pentacyclic triterpenoid isolated from the bark of white birch (Betula pubescens), against chronic alcohol-induced lipid accumulation and metaflammation. AML-12 and RAW 264.7 cells were administered ethanol (EtOH), lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or BT. Male C57BL/6 mice were fed Lieber-DeCarli liquid diets containing 5% EtOH for 4 weeks, followed by single EtOH gavage on the last day and simultaneous treatment with BT (20 or 50 mg/kg) by oral gavage once per day. In vitro, MTT showed that 0-25 mM EtOH and 0-25 µM BT had no toxic effect on AML-12 cells. BT could regulate sterolregulatory-element-binding protein 1 (SREBP1), lipin1/2, P2X7 receptor (P2X7r) and NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domains-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) expressions again EtOH-stimulation. Oil Red O staining also indicated that BT significantly reduced lipid accumulation in EtOH-stimulated AML-12 cells. Lipin1/2 deficiency indicated that BT might mediate lipin1/2 to regulate SREBP1 and P2X7r expression and further alleviate lipid accumulation and inflammation. In vivo, BT significantly alleviated histopathological changes, reduced serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and triglyceride (TG) levels, and regulated lipin1/2, SREBP1, peroxisome proliferator activated receptor α/γ (PPARα/γ) and PGC-1α expression compared with the EtOH group. BT reduced the secretion of inflammatory factors and blocked the P2X7r-NLRP3 signaling pathway. Collectively, BT attenuated lipid accumulation and metaflammation by regulating the lipin1/2-mediated P2X7r signaling pathway.

Characteristics of 154 traditional fairy tales (62 Asian, 34 European, 40 American, and 18 African fairy tales) were investigated according to their corresponding cultural areas. The results showed that male adults appeared more frequently in the traditional fairy tales than other characters. The expression of time, such as 'long ago','once upon a time', and 'one day' was provided, and there was an extreme contrast, fixation, and reiteration of literary styles in the traditional fairy tales, regardless of the cultural areas. Also, the characteristics of time and space that appeared in African fairy tales had a significant difference from other cultures. Also in accordance to the cultural areas, these fairy tales illustrated a significant difference in the pattern of problem solving.

This study analyzed the works, introduced in the collections of Yohji Yamamoto in an aim to identify traditional aesthetic and design concepts. As the data to study the concept and expression of the designer, fashion photographs were gathered in a focus on collections since 1990's. The traditional aesthetic expressed in the works of Yohji Yamamoto were characterized by the external aesthetics and the internal aesthetics. The traditional aesthetic of external aesthetics were classified into the plasticity and the wearing, and those of internal aesthetics were divided into the moderation, expertness and aesthetic exclusion. The plasticity was extracted into line, form and color. The wearing was presented artist of purpose through the mutual text. The moderation was based on the moral goodness and the aesthetical beauty. The expertness represented the fitting method and mutual reaction of color. through the natural beauty. The aesthetic exclusion was expressed through simplicity, loftiness, and unbalance.

The purpose of this study is to find out the current trend of tradition in Modern Korean Residential-furniture. Sample furniture of 374 pieces made by 21 manufacturers which have been shown in the market in September 2000, are selected for this study. To find out the traditional trend, frequency and percentage are used. As the result of the study, the major trend of design in Modern Korean Residential-furniture is modern style based on Modernism. However, it was found that there are tendency while large firms add western traditional elements in their furniture, small manufactures are trying to develop original furniture design which expresses Korean traditional characteristics. It means that the Korean traditional characteristics are not widely spread in Modern Residential-furniture.

Korean modern houses should admit modern requirement, Korean climate and way of living. These elements should be expressed through not only plan but also form and design. The aim of this thesis is to understand the expression tendency of the traditional design elements in idyllic houses. For this purpose, I investigated following things : 1) The culture and social theory about the tradition and the design elements. 2) The concept of Korean traditional design elements and factors as the design elements sources. 3) The methods of Korean traditional design elements expressed in idyllic houses. As a result, the methods of traditional reception can be classified as copying, eclecticism and abstraction.

The development of expression systems for heterologous proteins has been greatly demanded not only for the study of the structure/function relationships of these proteins but also for their biotechnological and pharmaceutical applications. During the past decades, the methylotrophic yeast Hansenula polymorpha and Pichia pastoris have drawn attention as one of promising hosts for the production of a variety of heterologous proteins. The increasing popularity of H. polymorpha and P. pastoris as the host systems can be attributed to the several advantages over the traditional yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, such as the availability of very strong and tightly regulated promoters from the enzymes involved in the metabolism of methanol, a very high-cell density even on simple mineral media, and a high stability of expression plasmids. Furthermore, it has been observed that glycoproteins from these two yeasts are less hyperglycoylated compared to those from S. cerevisiae. Despite substantial similarities as methylotrophic yeasts, however, these two expression systems have some unique features distinguished from each other. In this paper we present a brief overview on the present status of the expression systems developed in methylotrophic yeast, mainly focusing on the similarities and differences between the H. polymorpha and P. pastoris systems.

The Late modem society have been changing in so complicated and diverse ways. Each unique parts of both culture and arts are interpenetrating as lowering high of u artistic boundaries lot better communication between environmental contexts in the concept of ‘intertextuality’. Contemporary Interior Design also has freed itself from a conventional boundary of field rather than stay in a single field, which is now shown to attempt a new style of design and expression style connecting itself it to other genre. So in this thesis ‘installation’does not mean a traditional field of arts but for building interior space with environmental area in extended context - place(hyper -reality ), tableau (medium) , transformation (expansion) . Contemporary Interior Design is expanding its range and enhancing its power of expression based on the installating concept and its expression style.

This study aimed to investigate the Bobos style which represents new upper class in the information age and has influence on fashion world, and present the marketing strategy for that. As a result, Bobos' buying behavior of fashion goods and marketing strategy for that were as follows. The first, Bobos fashion style and their characteristics of buying behavior were 1. the pursuit of luxury and high quality 2. the pursuit of blending taste and of the traditional bourgeois and the bohemians 3. the pursuit of utility and practical thing 4. the pursuit of self expression and sense 5. the pursuit of natural and antique taste 6. pursuit of cultural and artistic aspect. The second, marketing strategy for Bobos' buying behavior of fashion goods were as follows. 1. Blending of the traditional prestige and freedom should be reflected on fashion goods. 2. The utility and natural style of fashion goods are needed. 3. The non-conspicous self expression and artisticㆍcultural taste should be reflected on fashion goods.

There are several way to classify the furniture. The furniture can be classified into use, style, and function, but if the furniture is classified into the way of production, it can be the industrial furniture and the studio furniture. Especially, technology and function of the furniture are important elements in industrial furniture. However, it could be considered artists' character and concept as more important elements in the studio furniture. The studio furniture had come out one of the historical movement in American furniture field after the World War II. This case to apply found objects began to increase after the 1970s. Using objects In furniture design field had built up sprightly after end of 1950s. This expression could be the statement of new expression that essential properties of matter in objects is removed. I try to suggest original and interesting furniture design to apply found objects in this thesis. Especially, I use the Korean traditional objects for the furniture and try to make their essential function to be changed. Also, I focus on furniture design to have formative element in their shapes.
