Bolton analysis is widely used to predict tooth size discrepancy. but its accuracy has been challenged. The purpose of this study was to describe true anterior tooth size discrepancies among orthodontic patients and to evaluate the factors that affect true anterior tooth size discrepancies. The subjects consisted of 80 patients with varying malocclusions (Class I. Class II. Class III. and Class III surgery) who were treated orthodontically. Pre-treatment models. set-up models from post-treatment models. and lateral cephalometric radiographs were analyzed The results were as follows. The means. the standard deviations. and ranges of anterior Bolton ratio in the present study were somewhat higher than those of Bolton's samples and Korean normal samples. The number of patients showing maxillary deficiency was larger than that of patients showing maxillary excess in view of true anterior discrepancies. There was a significant difference between anterior Bolton discrepancy from pre-treatment models and true anterior discrepancy from set-up models (p < 0.05) There was no significant difference in true anterior discrepancies among malocclusion groups (p > 0.05). And there was also no significant difference between the male and female groups (p> 0.05). Overbite and the incisal edge thickness of maxillary anterior teeth have little relationship with true anterior discrepancies. Multiple regression analysis showed that true anterior discrepancy was mainly determined by anterior Bolton ratio, upper incisor to occlusal plane angle after treatment. interincisal angle after treatment. and upper right lateral incisor width.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dimensional errors between real tooth, 3D CT image and CARP model. Materials and Methods : Two maxilla and two mandible block bones with intact teeth were taken from two cadavers. Computed tomography was taken either in dry state and in wet state. After then, all teeth were extracted and the dimensions of the real teeth were measured using a digital caliper at mesio-distal and bucco-lingual width both in crown and cervical portion. 3D CT image was generated using the V-works $4.0^{TM}$ (Cybemed Inc., Seoul, Korea) software. Twelve teeth were randomly selected for CARP model fabrication. All the measurements of 3D Ct images and CARP models were made in the same manner of the real tooth group. Dimensional errors between real tooth, 3D CT image model and CARP model was calculated. Results : 1) Average of absolute error was 0.199 mm between real teeth and 3D CT image model, 0.169 mm between 3D CT image model and CARP model and 0.291 mm between real teeth and CARP model, respectively. 2) Average size of 3D CT image was smaller than real teeth by 0.149 mm and that of CARP model was smalier than 3D CT image model by 0.067mm. Conclusion : Within the scope of this study, CARP model with the 0.291 mm average of absolute eror can aid to enhance the success rate cf autogenous tooth transplantation due to the increased accuracy of recipient bone and donor tooth.

Introduction: This study examined the effect of autogenous tooth bone used as a graft material for bone regeneration in an artificial bony defect of minipigs. Materials and Methods: Four healthy minipigs, weighing approximately 35-40 kg, were used. Four standardized artificial two-walled bony defects, 5 mm in length and depth, were made on the bilateral partial edentulous alveolar ridge on the mandible of minipigs, and autogenous tooth bone was augmented in the right side as the experimental group. On the other hand, only alloplastic bone graft material HA was grafted with the same size and manner in the left side as the control group. All minipigs were sacrificed at 4 weeks after a bone graft and evaluated histologically by Haematoxylin-eosin staining. The specimens were also evaluated semi-quantitatively via a histomorphometric study. The percentage of new bone over the total area was evaluated using digital software for an area calculation. Results: All specimens were available but one in the left side (control group) and two in the right side (experimental group) were missing during specimen preparation. The amount of bone formation and remodeling were higher in all experimental groups than the control. The mean percentage area for new bone in the experimental and control groups was $43.74{\pm}11.96%$ and $30.79{\pm}2.93%$, respectively. Conclusion: Autogenous tooth bone is a good alternative to autogenous bone with the possible clinical feasibility of an autogenous tooth bone graft in the reconstruction of bony defects.
Biocompatibility of dense synthetic hydroxylapatite is well known and the direct bond with adjacent bone developed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential of clinical application of tooth ash for preservation of alveolar ridge. For this purpose the author performed an experimental implantation of the particulate and root form of both pure dense hydroxylapatite and tooth ash in alveolar sockets immediately after extraction. The pure dense hydroxylapatite was particulate form and root form made by Calciteck Inc. The tooth ash was prepared by incineration at $950^{\circ}C$, and the syrindrical form of the tooth ash was sintered and trimmed to fit the size of the each extraction socket of 10 mongrel dogs. After sugery the clinical, roentgenographical, and histological observation was carried out. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Clinical observation disclosed no dehiscence and exfoliation due to tissue rejection. 2. Vertical resorption of alveolar bone occurred in all experimental sockets as well as the control sites on the roentgenograph. 3. Osteoclastic activity appeared at the inner surfaces of the crestal alveolar bone on the 1st week but disappeared on the 2nd week. 4. There were macrophages in the particulate form on the 1st and 2nd week after surgery but no macrophages appered in the root form. S. New bone formation was developed from the bony wall of experimental sockets and grew to bond with the implant materials. In particulate form the new bone formation did not occur in central zone independently. 6. Tooth ash implant sites were covered with the newly formed bony trabeculation from third week, but Calcitite particles were covered with soft tissue. 7. Generally the healing occurred more rapidly in control sites than in implant sites.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of demineralized and particulate autogenous tooth, and interleukin-6 in bone regeneration. A demineralized and particulate autogenous tooth was prepared and human osteoblast-like cells (MG63) and human osteosarcoma cells were inoculated into the culture. The rate of cell adhesion, proliferation and mineralization were examined, and the appearance of cellular attachment was observed. An 8 mm critical size defect was created in the cranium of rabbits. Nine rabbits were divided into three groups including: An experimental group A (3 rabbits), in which a demineralised and particulate autogenous tooth was grafted; an experimental group B (3 rabbits), in which a demineralized, particulate autogenous tooth was grafted in addition to interleukin-6 (20 ng/mL); and a control group. The rabbits were sacrificed at 1, 2, 4 and 6 weeks for histopathological examination with H-E and Masson's Trichrome, and immunohistochemistry with osteocalcin. The cell-based assay showed a higher rate of cell adhesion, mineralization and cellular attachment in the experimental group A compared with the control group. The animal study revealed an increased number of osteoclasts, newly formed and mature bones in the experimental group A compared with the control group. Eventually, a higher number of osteoclasts were observed in the experimental group B. However, the emergence of newly formed and mature bone was lower than in the experimental group A. The current results suggest that treatment with demineralized and particulate autogenous tooth and interleukin-6 is not effective in stimulating bone regeneration during the bone grafting procedure.

Effects of HA and TiN coating on the electrochemical characteristics of Ti-6AI-4V alloys for bone plates were investigated using various test methods. Ti-6AI-4V alloys were fabricated by using a vacuum induction furnace and bone plates were made by laser cutting and polishing. HA was made of extracted tooth sintered and then tooth ash was used as HA coating target. The TiN and HA film coating on the surface were carried on using electron-beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) method. The corrosion behaviors of the samples were examined through potentiodynamic method in 0.9% NaCI solutions at $36.5\pm$$1^{\circ}C$ and corrosion surface was observed using SEM and XPS. The surface roughness of TiN coated bone plates was lower than that of tooth ash coated plates. The structure of TiN coated layer showed the columnar structure and tooth ash coated layer showed equiaxed and anisotrophic structure. The corrosion potential of the TiN coated specimen is comparatively high. The active current density of TiN and tooth ash coated alloy showed the range of about $1.0xl0^{-5}$$A\textrm{cm}^2$, whereas that of the non-coated alloy was$ 1.0xl0^{-4}$$A\textrm{cm}^2$. The active current densities of HA and TiN coated bone plates were smaller than that of non-coated bone plates in 0.9% NaCl solution. The pitting potential of TiN and HA coated alloy is more drastically increased than that of the non-coated alloy. The pit number and pit size of TiN and HA coated alloy decreased in compared with those of non-coated alloy. For the coated samples, corrosion resistance increased in the order of TiN coated, tooth ash coated, and non-coated alloy.

The purpose of this study was to provide clinical recommendations for restoration with selection of the most similar zirconia crown by 3-dimensional analysis of the shape of the maxillary primary central and lateral incisors in Korean individuals and prefabricated zirconia crowns. The average shape of the sound maxillary primary central and lateral incisors in 300 children was reproduced by 3-dimensional scanning. Zirconia crowns of 4 manufacturers (NuSmile $ZR^{(R)}$ Crown, Cheng $Crowns^{(R)}$, Kinder $Krowns^{(R)}$, and EZ $Pedo^{(R)}$ Crown) were scanned 3-dimensionally, and coordinates for comparison of the shape were measured to evaluate the similarity between the teeth and crowns. The most similar crowns were selected by comparing the mesiodistal length, crown height, crown shape ratio, distance between the same coordinates of a tooth and crown, the radius of curvature of the labial surface, and the volume. As a result of analysis, Cheng $Crowns^{(R)}$ size 3 and NuSmile $ZR^{(R)}$ Crown size 2 were the most similar crowns in the maxillary primary central and lateral incisors, respectively. Scanning the inner surface of the crowns and evaluating the amount of tooth reduction required suggested that an overall lesser amount of tooth reduction compared to that presented by the manufacturer's guidelines should be performed.
The esthetic factor for the esthetic prosthesis were studied on 300 persons. The praaticipants were 150 students registered under the Deparment of Dental Laboratoy Technology, Jisan Junior College at the present day of June, 1995 and their mothers. The results were as follows; 1. The number of persons with 28 teeth in their oralcatity was highest(P<0.01). They complained that they have only 28 teeth bacaues of the loss(deficiency) fo teeth due to their impacted teeth and dental caries. 2. The presons with feelings of dissatisfaction were large in number(P<0.01). They were dissatisfied with an abnormal tooth form(33.5%), tooth position(31.7%), tooth color(31.1%), and tooth size(3.7%) in order(P<0.01). 3. In their facial form, the most numerous were men with square form and women with ovoid form(P<0.01). Among the whloe number fo facial forms it appeared to decresae in the order of ovoied(41.8%), square(32.7%), square+tapered(20.5%), and tapered form(5%)(P<0.01). In a profile form, the most numerous were men with A form and women with B. Among the whole participants the most numerous were persons with B form and persons with A and C form were next in oder of numbers(P<0.01). 4. In discoloration of teeth, the most numerous were persons who have no discoloration. 5. In the esthetic recovery of anterior prosthesis the color matching of proximal teeth was not correct, but the outline of proximal teeth was to be reproduced correctly. 6. In the diastema of teeth, the number of persons who have no diastema was higher than that of persons who have a disatema(P<0.01) Among the persons who have diastema the most numerous were persons who have a diastema, and next were 2, 4, 3 and 5 diastemas in order. 7. In a meeting point of the midline of the body and the tooth the number of person hanving a meeting point was higher than that of persons who did not fit each other(P<0.01). The bias direction of midline teeth appeared to be affected by chewing direction, prosthesis location, and posterior location. 8. The length and width of teeth in the tooth size were suitable(P<0.01). The number of persons who have central teeth longer than lateral teeth was high(P<0.0). 9. In the results of smile analysis, the line form connected with incisal edge of upper canine were parallel(P<0.01). When smile the location fo upper lips should be in accord with the central area of teeth(P<0.01) and lower lip should be atteched to the edge of anterior teeth in order to be esthetic. 10. Among the number of upper teeth we can see the most numerous were 8 teeth and next were 10, 6 and 12 in order.
