  • In order to obtain the fundamental data on the auditory thresholds of fishes for catching method using low frequency sound, the auditory thresholds of coralfish Chromis notatus were measured in the presence of masking noise in the spectrum level range of 73~83dB re l$\mu$Pa/√Hz by heartbeat conditioning technique using pure tones coupled with a delayed electric shock. Critical ratios were about 23~41dB at measurement frequency, The critical ratio increased almost linearly with increasing frequency from 500Hz. The noise spectrum level at the start of masking was about 60~65dB. This suggests that hearing of coralfish is masked in the natural environment with the noise spectrum level above 60dB. The sound pressure level of which the signal sound of 300Hz is recognized by coralfish under the ambient noise is above 88dB and the critical ratio of them is above 23dB. The hearing index of coralfish with ambient noise was 81.

  • SULNONGTANG is a kind of “goomkok”-korean typical soup made with beef, tone and organs, and is belived to be as a good source of portein and calcium, but there is no standard formulation for that. In order to set up the standard formulation of SULNONGTANG cooking method, I have performed a nutritional analysis of change in the components of SULNONGTANG, which contained the proximate composition, free amino acids, nucleotides, cholesterol, calium, phosphorus and iron. The conventional SULNONGTANG were cooked by conventional methods varing cooking time and ingredient. And also the current Market SULNONGTANG were cooked by the same methods for conventional SULNONGTANG and adding beef's head, hooves or knee tones. The result obtained in this study were as fallows: 1. In case of conventional SULNONGTANG, the most desirable cooking time was from 12 to 18 hours, the preparation method for group A was the best to maintain the optimal amount of nutrients and 5'-IMP. 2. In Market SULNONGTANG, nutritional contents were poorer than that of conventional SULNONGTANG. When the beef's head was added to the Market SULNONGTANG, nutritional status were more desirable than those added hooves or knee bones.

  • This study aims to characterize the sensibility image and interaction effect of striped necktie according to same-tone coordination and 1:2:3 area-ratio variation on the gender. The experimental materials developed for this study are a set of stimuli and response scales. The stimuli consist of 56 color pictures manipulated with every combination of 4 different colors, 2 different tones and 7 different area-ratio. The 7-point scale designed for visual evaluation of sensibility image included 26 bipolar adjectives. The subjects were 1344 undergraduate students in Gyeongnam, Seoul, Busan, and Daegu areas. The results of this study were as follows. The analyses of sensibility images in terms of same-tone coordination and 1:2:3 area-ratio variation of stripe necktie reveal that the concerned factors are of five characteristic dimensions of attractiveness, youth-activity, appeal, ability, and warmness. In the 5 factors of sensibility image, color combination and tone showed independent effect. In addition, significant interaction effects of area-ratio and tone on appeal and ability were found. Interaction effects of gender and area-ratio on youth-activity were found. Interaction effects of gender and tone on warmness were found. Interaction effects of color combination and tone on appeal and warmness were found. The study results are highly expected to be used as useful sources in developing men's coordination.

  • This study explored how South Korean newspapers covered North Korea's second nuclear test in May of 2009. Findings show that South Korean newspapers mostly reported North Korea's nuclear experiment in relatively negative tones. Their coverage mainly focused on the influences of nuclear threat from the North on the military, political and economic areas in South Korea. However, the media's agenda settings and frames were not similar in terms of each paper's political and ideological inclination. Whereas the progressive papers, such as the Hankyoreh and the Kyunghyang Shinmun, recognized that the current nuclear issue in Korean peninsula is getting worse because of South Korea's rigorous pressure on North Korea, the conservative papers, such as the Chosun Ilbo and the Donga Ilbo, see that the deadlock between North and South mainly comes from the system malfunction of North Korea. To prevent the current impasse, the left-side papers emphasized to develop the six-party talk in dealing with North Korean issue, while the right-wing papers paid attentions to the West's sanctions on North Korea and ensuring national security.

  • Some Quaternary faults developed in the eastern block of the Ulsan fault are Gaegok 1, Gaegok 2, Singye, Madong, Wonwonsa and Jinhyeon faults, which are characterized by thin gouge and narrow cataclasitic tones. This study was performed to emphasize the role of mineral alteration and microtexture in response to hydrothermal alteration of fault gouges during fault activity, using XRD, EPMA, BSE (backscattered electron image), and K-Ar age dating methods. Alteration minerals in fault gouges were formed in the age range of $44.3\~28.9Ma$ by hydrothermal alteration attributed to fault activity. XRD results show that fault gouges consist predominantly of clay minerals, quartz and feldspars. Clay minerals formed in the gouge zones are mainly composed of smectite with trace chlorite, illite and kaolinite. The evidence to support the hydrothermal alteration of preexisting minerals due to fault activity are easily recognized at the host rocks in contact with gouges zones. Injected gouge and calcite veins indicate that they were originated from multiple deformation by repeated fault activity. Gouge with green or greenish grey color, for example Jinhyeon fault, contains higher $Al_2O_3$ and lower MgO and CaO compared to those with reddish color. Various colors of fault gouge are intimately related to the chemical compositions of main constituent mineral as well as mineral assemblage.

  • In this study, the properties of blue inorganic nano-pigments with a spinel structure were systematically investigated. We report the preparation of a blue ceramic nano-pigment and the Co and Ni substitutional effects on the blue color. $MgAl_2O_4$ was selected as the crystalline host network for the synthesis of cobalt and nickel-based blue ceramic nano-pigments. Various compositions of $Co_xMg_{1-x}Al_2O_4$ and $Ni_xMg_{1-x}Al_2O_4$ ($0{\leq}x{\leq}1$) powders were prepared using apolymerized complex method. The obtained powder was preheated at $400^{\circ}C$ for 5 h and then calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 5 h. XRD patterns of the (Co,Mg)$Al_2O_4$ and (Ni,Mg)$Al_2O_4$ samples showed a single phase of the spinel structure in all compositions. TEM results indicated nano-sized pigments for (Co,Mg)$Al_2O_4$ and (Ni,Mg)$Al_2O_4$ with a particle size ranging from 20 to 50 nm. The characteristics of the color tones of (Co,Mg)$Al_2O_4$ and (Ni,Mg)$Al_2O_4$ were analyzed by CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ measurements. In addition, the thermal stability and the binding characteristics of (Co,Mg)$Al_2O_4$, (Ni,Mg)$Al_2O_4$ are discussed in terms of the TG-DSC and FT-IR results, respectively.

  • Objective: This entire study has two parts. Study I aimed to develop a psychological assessment scale and the study II aimed to investigate the effects of LFN (low frequency noise) on the psychological responses in humans, using the scale developed in the study I. Background: LFN is known to have a negative impact on the functioning of humans. The negative impact of LFN can be categorized into two major areas of functioning of humans, physiological and psychological areas of functioning. The physiological impact can cause abnormalities in threshold, balancing and/or vestibular system, cardiovascular system and, hormone changes. Psychological functioning includes cognition, communication, mental health, and annoyance. Method: 182 college students participated in the study I in development of a psychological assessment scale and 42 paid volunteers participated in the study II to measure psychological responses. The LFN stimuli consisted of 12 different pure tones and 12 different 1 octave-band white noises and each stimulus had 4 different frequencies and 3 different sounds pressure levels. Results: We developed the psychological assessment scale consisting of 17 items with 3 dimensions of psychological responses (i.e., perceived physical, perceived physiological, and emotional responses). The main findings of LFN on the responses were as follows: 1. Perceived psychological responses showed a linear relation with SPL (sound pressure level), that is the higher the SPL is, the higher the negative psychological responses were. 2. Psychological responses showed quadric relations with SPL in general. 3. More negative responses at 31.5Hz LFN than those of 63 and 125Hz were reported, which is deemed to be caused by perceived vibration by 31.5Hz. 'Perceived vibration' at 31.5Hz than those of other frequencies of LFN is deemed to have amplified the negative psychological response. Consequently there found different effects of low frequency noise with different frequencies and intensity (SPL) on multiple psychological responses. Conclusion: Three dimensions of psychological responses drawn in regard to this study differed from others in the frequencies and SLP of LFN. Negative psychological responses are deemed to be differently affected by the frequency, SPL of the LFN and 'feel vibration' induced by the LFN. Application: The psychological scale from our study can be applied in quantitative psychological measurement of LFN at home or industrial environment. In addition, it can also help design systems to block LFN to provide optimal conditions if used the study outcome, .i.e., the relations between physical and psychological responses of LFN.

  • In this paper, the perceived audio level metering algorithm of digital audio sound to be able to operate in real-time is proposed. Through analyzing a conventional recommendation ITU-RBS1387-I for objective audio quality analysis, FFT-based loudness metering algorithm is implemented and the real-time method of that algorithm was advised and proved. The proposed method is based on look-up table. In order to prove the proved method, using 23 pure tones and 30 preselected digital audio samples, its performance and operation time is evaluated. Its performance, compared with an original algorithm's, have a good figure of less than $2\;\%$ error even if look-up table related with spectral spreading have large level resolution of $10\;\cal{dB}$. The proposed algorithm take only 1/21 of original algorithm's measuring time. Also, in the proposed algorithm auditory pitch group energy calculation take 1/450 of original algorithm's and excitation calculation take 1/3.57. In conclusion, the proposed algorithm is expected to be implemented into DSP-based real-time loudness meter.

  • ACROSS device, which is composed of an implantable microphone, a signal processor, and a vibrating transducer, is a fullyimplantable middle ear hearing device(F-IMEHD) for the recovery of patients with hearing loss. And since a microphone is implanted under skin and tissue at the temporal bones, the amplitude of the sound wave is attenuated by absorption and scattering. And the vibrating transducer attached to the ossicular chain caused also the different displacement from characteristic of the stapes. For the gain control of auditory signals, most of implantable hearing devices with the digital audio signal processor still apply to fitting rules of conventional hearing aid without regard to the effect of the implanted microphone and the vibrating transducer. So it should be taken into account the effect of the implantable microphone and the vibrating transducer to use the conventional audio fitting rule. The aim of this study was to measure gain characteristics caused by the implanted microphone and the vibrating transducer attached to the ossicle chains for the gain compensation of ACROSS device. Differential floating mass transducers (DFMT) of ACROSS device were clipped on four cadaver temporal bones. And after placing the DFMT on them, displacements of the ossicle chain with the DFMT operated by 1 $mA_{peak}$ current was measured using laser Doppler vibrometer. And the sensitivity of microphones under the sampled pig skin and the skin of 3 rat back were measured by stimulus of pure tones in frequency from 0.1 to 8.9 kHz. And we confirmed that the microphone implanted under skin showed poorer frequency response in the acoustic high-frequency band than it in the low- to mid- frequency band, and the resonant frequency of the stapes vibration was changed by attaching the DFMT on the incus, the displacement of the DFMT driven with 1 $mA_{rms}$ was higher by the amount of about 20 dB than that of cadaver's stapes driven by the sound presssure of 94 dB SPL in resonance frequency range.

  • It is important for designers to be supported with their decision-making on colours which is often based on personal distinction rather than logical dialogue that may lead to confusion within communicating with others. To help these problems and to gain productivity, we would like to propose a way to define colour grouping method. In other words, the purpose of this study is to help to improve the communication and productivity within the design and designers. The grouping was based and inspired by from the studies of Kobayashi, Hideaki Chijiawa, Allis Westgate and Martha Gill. The study of grouping is based on the "tones" of each group, as they seem to reflect a designer s sentimentalism of chosen colours the best. Each of these groups will be named Bright , Pastel ,Deep and Neutral The general concept of each groups are: - Bright: high quality of pixels of primary colour - Pastel: primary colour with white - - Deep: Primary colour with gray or black - Neutral: colours that does not include any of above Each of the colour group has been allocated into Si-Hwa Jung's colour charts and colour prism to visualize the relationships between the colour groups. These four groups and the colours included in them will be broken down to smaller groups in order to make colour palette. This would break the barrier and result in using colours in groups as well as crossover coordination. This study would result in new ways of using colurs for designers designers
