A Strategy for Timely Long Running Transactions Management Extended from WS-Transaction (WS-트랜잭션의 확장된 적시적 장기수행 트랜잭션 관리 전략)

  • Timely management is an important activity in long running transactions. This can be seen in many Supply Chain scenarios where insufficient time management could lead to expensive compensations. Therefore, effective strategy for timely management in long running transactions is needed. In this paper, we propose our solution to detect and avoid violating deadline based on a comparison strategy of predicted complete time and required deadline. Three approaches are used. Firstly, we build Open Nested Transaction Model (ONTM) where deadline of top-level transactions are managed through a flexible time adjustment of lower level transactions. Secondly, workflow is introduced to WSTransaction framework which supports the algorithm to predict complete time and spot delaying activities. Thirdly, a rule-based coordinator is developed to decide the confirmation or cancelation of participants' ongoing activities. We also discuss a workflow example for implementation.

  • Turnaround time (called, TAT) for imaging test, which is necessary for making a medical diagnosis, is directly related to the patient's waiting time and it is one of the important performance criteria for medical services. In this paper, we measured the TAT from major imaging tests to see it met the reference point set by the medical institutions. Prediction results from the algorithm of classification regression tree (called, CART) showed "clinics", "diagnosis", "modality", "test month" were identified as main factors for timely processing. This study had a contribution in providing means of prevention of the delay on medical services in advance.

  • In this paper collaboration of web-based distributed business systems is analyzed and the need of timely collaboration is derived and described in terms of inter-organizational contracts. A method of event-condition-action (ECA) rule based timely collaboration to meet the need and an active functionality component (AFC) to provide the method are proposed. The proposed method supports high level rule programming and event-based immediate processing so that system administrators and programmers can easily maintain the timely collaboration independently to the application logic. The proposed AFC uses HTTP protocol to be applied through firewalls. It is implemented using basic trigger facilities of a commercial DBMS for practical purpose.

  • Business transactional process is usually long running computation which requests services from multiple enterprises. Web Services Transaction specification (WS-TX) defines a protocol, WS-BusinessActivity which is specifically designed for such lengthy interaction and maintains overall consistency through compensation. However timely web services transaction is prone to compensate due to tasks' missing deadline. Therefore, this paper proposes a reservation-based protocol which is used to select providers who can provide resources promptly and deselect ones who may fail. And this selection happens during resource reservation phase and before real commitment. In this way, we achieve the goal of minimizing transactions' compensation. Finally, we design the framework architecture for the proposed protocol that is extended from WS-BusinessActivity.

New Crash Discrimination Algorithm and Accelerometer Locations (새로운 충돌 판별 알고리즘과 가속도 센서의 위치)

  • Several metrics have been used in crash discrimination algorithms in order to have timely air bag deployment during all frontal crash modes. However, it is still challengine to have timely air bag deployment especially during the oblique, the pole and the underride crash mode. Therefore, in this paper a new crash discrimination algorithm was proposed, using the absolute value of the deceleration change multiplied by the velocity change as a metric, and processing the metric as a function of the velocity change. The new algorithm was applied for all frontal crash modes of a minivan and a sports utility vehicle, and it resulted in timely air bag deployment for all frontal crash modes including the oblique, the pole and the underride crash mode. Moreover, it was proposed that an accelerometer be installed at each side of the rails, rockers or pillars to assess the crash severity of each side and to deploy the frontal air bags at different time especially during an asymmetric crash such as an oblique and an offset crash. As an example, the deceleration pulses measured at the left and right B-pillar·rocker locations were processed through the new algorithm, and faster time-to-fires were obtained for the air bag at the struck side for the air bag at the other side.

  • Close collaboration among businesses is required in B2B EC environment. Furthermore, emergency requests or critical information among businesses should be processed in an immediate mode. Most current systems, however, due to firewalls for the systems' security and autonomy, can not handle these requirements appropriately, but handle them in an ad hoc manner In this paper a method of timely collaboration among businesses and an active functionality component to support it in B2B EC environment are proposed. Since the active functionality component supports high level ECA rule patterns and event-based immediate processing, system administrators and programmers can easily program and maintain the timely collaboration independently to the application logic. The proposed active functionality component uses HTTP protocol to be applied through firewalls and is designed using a commercial DBMS for practical purpose.

  • In this paper, we describe the development of a Southeast Asia environmental information web portal based on near real time MODIS Level 2 and higher level products generated from the direct broadcast data received at the Centre for Remote Imaging, Sensing and Processing (CRISP). This web portal aims to deliver timely environmental information to interested users in the region. Interpreted data will be provided instead of raw satellite data to reduce operational requirements on our system, and to enable users with limited bandwidths to have access to the system.

  • A huge amount of data in the form of videos and images is being produced owning to advancements in sensor technology. Use of low performance commodity hardware coupled with resource heavy image processing and analyzing approaches to infer and extract actionable insights from this data poses a bottleneck for timely decision making. Current approach of GPU assisted and cloud-based architecture video analysis techniques give significant performance gain, but its usage is constrained by financial considerations and extremely complex architecture level details. In this paper we propose a data pipeline system that uses open-source tools such as Apache Spark, Kafka and OpenCV running over commodity hardware for video stream processing and image processing in a distributed environment. Experimental results show that our proposed approach eliminates the need of GPU based hardware and cloud computing infrastructure to achieve efficient video steam processing for face detection with increased throughput, scalability and better performance.
