  • This paper reports an investigation conducted on two diagnostic methods based on the switching voltage pattern of IGBT open-circuit faults in voltage-source inverters (VSIs). One method was based on the bridge arm pole voltage, and the other was based on bridge arm line voltage. With an additional simple circuit, these two diagnostic methods detected and effectively identified single and multiple open-circuit faults of inverter IGBTs. A comparison of the times for the diagnosis and anti-interference features between these two methods is presented. The diagnostic time of both methods was less than 280ns in the best case. The diagnostic time for the method based on the bridge arm pole voltage was less than that of the method based on the bridge arm line voltage and was 1/2 of the fundamental period in the worst case. An experimental study was carried out to show the effectiveness of and the differences between these two methods.

  • Occasionally, equipment in a distribution system fails due to damage from weather, vandalism, or other causes. Failures and unexpected events do not always occur as and where expected. Therefore, a good contingency plan, multi-zone or otherwise, provides flexibility by locating switches at various strategic locations so that parts of a feeder can be picked up in the event of line outages at various places. It is possible to create feeder system layout that achieve remarkable contingency support economics, even as their normal peak loading levels approach thermal capacity, by utilizing six, seven, or even nine switchable zones per feeder. But many switchable zones per feeder are of questionable practicality and effectiveness, because of the complexity and time required for the switching operation. In practice, a zonal scheme with between three and four zones will usually provide complete contingency backup for all feeders. Line switches have both capital and maintenance costs, the planning for multi-zonal schemes is considerably more difficult than or loop or single-zone systems, and the required switching operations required during contingencies take more time. But multi-zonal schemes are used because these costs come to far less than the cost of additional capacity required for loop or single-zone. In this paper, we present the optimal number of switchable zones per feeder in Kora distribution system.

  • We introduce a new ultra-large capacity time- and wavelength-division hybrid optical switching system, called ESCIMONET(Easily SCalable Interconnected Multiwavelength Optical NETwork). We describe its architecture, principle of operation, and performance characteristics. ESCIMONET is very effective system in terms of its handling capacity versus number of wavelength needed. It can handle n$^3$number of channels using only n number of different wavelengths. The insertion loss of the whole system is less than conventional optical switching system so that the number of optical amplifiers in the system can be minimized. We analyzed the performance of the system by investigation the characteristics of the buffer used in the system such as throughput and average waiting time of the signal in a buffer.

  • This paper deals with the analysis of the unintentional radiation from the TDX-1B subscriber Board. According to the demand of digital systems and developement of high speed switching devices, electro- magnetic noise intensity and it's bandwidth occupancy in spectrum are increasing and so there is a serious possibility causing the various EMI phenomena. More accurate radiation model was established by using the Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) analysis, and the EMI probabilistic analysis of the digital switching system was performed. For validating the proposed model and its calculated results, on-promises test was performed and compared with the calculated results. These results may be applicable to be used for EMI model in large digital system, and prediction of EMI effect from a large digital system, and the EMI control design when designing digital system to meet inter- national EMI regulation.

  • We have implemented Frequency bandwidth expander with frequency upconverting by VCO drift canceller and comb generator. Te output of the low frequency synthesizer which the output frequency is 220~280MHz(Resolution : 5MHz) is expanded to 1660~2140MHz by this system. The phase noise of this system only depends on the phase noise of comb generator and low frequency synthesizer. The phase noise of VCO don’t influence at the frequency expander because the drift of VCO cancel out. When we control the output of VCO, the output frequency of this system is varied by 60MHz x N as filter banker. The switching time and the spurious of the frequency expander is below 3usec, -55dBc respectively. This system easily expands bandwidth additively by expanding the output bandwidth of the VCO. We can apply the frequency expander to very wide band microwave synthesizer which has fast switching time.

  • The conventional model predictive direct torque control (MPDTC) method uses all of the voltage vectors available from a two level voltage source inverter for the prediction of the stator flux and stator current, which leads to a heavy computational burden. This paper proposes an improved model predictive direct torque control method. The stator flux predictive controller is obtained from an analysis of the relationship between the stator flux and the torque, which can be used to calculate the desired voltage vector based on the stator flux and torque reference. Then this method only needs to evaluate three voltage vectors in the sector of the desired voltage vector. As a result, the computational burden of the conventional MPDTC is effectively reduced. The time delay introduced by the computational time causes the stator current to oscillate around its reference. It also increases the current and torque ripples. To address this problem, a delay compensation method is adopted in this paper. Furthermore, the switching frequency of the inverter is significantly reduced by introducing the constraint of the power semiconductor switching number to the cost function of the MPDTC. Both simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed method.

  • Considering a dual-hop energy-harvesting (EH) relaying system, this paper advocates novel relaying protocols based on adaptive time power switching-based relaying (AR) architecture for amplify-and-forward (AF) mode. We introduce novel system model relaying network with impacts of co-channel interference (CCI) and derive analytical expressions for the average harvested energy, outage probability, and the optimal throughput of the information transmission link, taking into account the effect of CCI from neighbor cellular users. In particular, we consider such neighbor users procedure CCI both on the relay and destination nodes. Theoretical results show that, in comparison with the conventional solutions, the proposed model can achieve optimal throughput efficiency for sufficiently small threshold SNR with condition of reasonable controlling time switching fractions and power splitting fractions in concerned AR protocol. We also explore impacts of transmission distances in each hop, transmission rate, the other key parameters of AR to throughput performance for different channel models. Simulation results are presented to corroborate the proposed methodology.

  • This study analyzes the effects of the parasitic capacitance of the SiC MOSFET used in the Dual Active Bridge ( DAB) converter and proposes a method for calculating the leakage inductance of the transformer. The DAB converter employs high-frequency switching to achieve high efficiency, high power density, and reliability. MOSFETs possess parasitic capacitance, which induces resonance with the leakage inductance of the transformer during switching operations, resulting in a voltage change delay. This paper discusses the effect of the delay of voltage changes on the DAB converter output and proposes a method to calculate the delay time. This method aims to equalize the delay time to minimize this effect and enhance the accuracy of the leakage inductance calculation of the transformer. The proposed method is validated through experiments and simulations.

  • This paper proposes a new model as a framework for forecasting demand and technological substitution, which can accommodate different patterns of technological change. This model, which we named, "Adaptive Diffusion Model", is formalized from a conceptual framework that incorporates several underlying factors determining the market demand for technological products. The formulation of this model is given in terms of a period analysis to improve its explanatory power for dynamic processes in the real world, and is described as a continuous form which approximates a discrete derivation of the model. In order to illustrate the applicability and generality of this model, time-series data of the diffusion rates for some typical products in electronics and telecommunications market have been empirically tested. The results show that the model has higher explanatory power than any other existing model for all the products tested in our study. It has been found that this model can provide a framework which is sufficiently robust in forecasting demand and innovation diffusion for various technological products.

  • Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors(IGBTs) have received wide attention because of their high current conduction and good switching characteristics. To reduce the power loss of IGBT, the onstate voltage drop should be lowered and the switching time should be shortened. However, there is trade-off between the breakdown voltage and the on-state voltage drop. The FLoatingIsland(FLI) structure can lower the on-state voltage drop without reducing breakdown voltage. In this paper, The FLI IGBT shows an on-state voltage drop that is 22.5% lower than the conventional IGBT, even though the breakdown voltages of each IGBT are almost identical.
