  • In this paper cellular neutral networks with time-varying delays and continuously distributed delays are considered. Without assuming the global Lipschitz conditions of activation functions, some sufficient conditions for the existence and exponential stability of the almost periodic solutions are established by using the fixed point theorem and differential inequality techniques. The results of this paper are new and complement previously known results.

  • A periodic review inventory model for deteriorating items in which time is treated as a discrete variable is developed. The model is developed under deterministic but time dependent demands and instantaneous delivery. Deterioration is assumed to be a constant fraction of the on hand inventory and partial returns are allowed for the deteriorated items. The solution procedures for obtaining the optimal order quantities which maximize the total profit in the scheduling period are presented for the cases of back orders and lost sales. Finally, when the additional orders are allowed, an efficient solution algorithm determining the initial and additional order quantities and additional ordering time is developed. Some numerical examples are also presented to illustrate the results.

  • Finite element stiffness matrix methods are presented for finding natural frequencies (or buckling loads) and modes of repetitive structures. The usual approximate finite element formulations are included, but more relevantly they also permit the use of 'exact finite elements', which account for distributed mass exactly by solving appropriate differential equations. A transcendental eigenvalue problem results, for which all the natural frequencies are found with certainty. The calculations are performed for a single repeating portion of a rotationally or linearly (in one, two or three directions) repetitive structure. The emphasis is on rotational periodicity, for which principal advantages include: any repeating portions can be connected together, not just adjacent ones; nodes can lie on, and members along, the axis of rotational periodicity; complex arithmetic is used for brevity of presentation and speed of computation; two types of rotationally periodic substructures can be used in a multi-level manner; multi-level non-periodic substructuring is permitted within the repeating portions of parent rotationally periodic structures or substructures and; all the substructuring is exact, i.e., the same answers are obtained whether or not substructuring is used. Numerical results are given for a rotationally periodic structure by using exact finite elements and two levels of rotationally periodic substructures. The solution time is about 500 times faster than if none of the rotational periodicity had been used. The solution time would have been about ten times faster still if the software used had included all the substructuring features presented.

  • Subway metro scheduling is one of the most important problems impacting passenger convenience today. To operate efficiently, the Seoul metro uses regular, periodic schedules for all lanes, both north and southbound. However, many past studies suggest that non-periodic scheduling would better optimize costs. Since the Seoul metro is continuously facing a deficit, adopting a non-periodic schedule may be necessary. Two objectives are presented; the first, to minimize the average passengers' waiting time, and the second, to minimize total costs, the sum of the passenger waiting time, and the operational costs. In this paper, we use passenger smart card data and a precise estimation of transfer times. To find the optimal time-table, a genetic algorithm is used to find the best solution for both objectives. Using Python 3.5 for the analysis, for the first objective, we are able to reduce the average waiting time, even when there are fewer trains. For the second objective, we are able to save about 4.5 thousand USD with six fewer trains.

  • We consider the global existence of strong solutions of the 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a long periodic domain. We show by a simple argument that a strong solution exists globally in time when the initial velocity in $H^1$ and the forcing function in $L^p$([0; T);$L^2$), T > 0, $2{\leq}p{\leq}+\infty$ satisfy a certain condition. This condition common appears for the global existence in thin non-periodic domains. Larger and larger initial data and forcing functions satisfy this condition as the thickness of the domain $\epsilon$ tends to zero.

  • Periodic replacement model with minimal repair at failure is extended to the case where quantity purchases are possible. A recursive relationship among replacement intervals is obtained, which shows that replacement intervals are an increasing sequence due to the inventory carrying cost. Using the relationship, a procedure is given for determining how many units to purchase on each order and when to replace each unit after it has begun operating so as to minimize the total cost per unit time over an infinite time span. The problem can be simplified if equal replacement intervals are assumed, and the solution is very close to the solution of the unconstrained problem.

  • This paper presents a numerical simulation of the behavior of the LiBr solution droplets and falling films in horizontal tube banks of absorber. The model developed here accounts for the details of the droplets formation and impact process for absorption on horizontal tubes including the heat transfer from solution film to the tube wall. Especially. the characteristic of unsteady behavior of solution flow has been investigated. Flow visualization studies shown that the solution droplets and falling films have some of the complex characteristics. It is found that. with the numerical conditions similar to the operating condition of an actual absorption chiller/heater, the outlet solution temperature and heat flux from solution film to the tube wall have a stable periodic behavior with time. The solution droplets and falling films in horizontal tube banks of absorber is a periodic unsteady flow. The results from this model are compared with previous experimental observation taken with a high-speed digital video camera and shown good agreement.

  • Scattering fields of two dimensional acoustic waves by a circular cylinder are investigated. The present numerical approach for the acoustic scattering problem has difficulties of numerical robustness, long-time stability and suitability of far-field boundary treatments. The time-dependent periodic acoustic source is used to analyze Interference patterns between incident waves and waves reflected by the cylinder. Characteristic boundary algorithms coupled with 4th order Modified-Flux-Approach ENO(essentially non-oscillatory) schemes are employed in generalized coordinates to examine the effect of the wane frequency on the interference patterns. Non-reflecting boundary conditions, which is crustal for accurate computations of aeroacoustic problems, are used not to contaminate scattering fields by reflected waves at the outer boundary. Computed scattering fields show the circumferential acoustic modes generated by interacting between acoustic sources and scattered waves. At a lower frequency, the wave passes almost straight through the cylinder without Interacting with circular cylinder. Simulation results are presented and compared with the analytic solution. Computed RMS-pressure distribution on the cylinder wall is good agreement with exact solution.

  • The purpose of this project is the presentation of new method for selection of a scalar control of linear time-periodic system. The approach has been proposed by Radziszewski and Zaleski [4] and utilizes the quadratic form of Lyapunov function. The system under consideration is assigned either in closed-loop state or in modal variables as in Calico, Wiesel [1]. The case of scalar control is considered, the gain matrix being assumed to be at worst periodic with the system period T, each element being represented by a Fourier series. As the optimal gain matrix we consider the matrix ensuring the minimum value of the larger real part of the two Poincare exponents of the system. The method, based on two-step optimization procedure, allows to find the approximate optimal gain matrix. At present state of art determination of the gain matrix for this case has been done by systematic numerical search procedure, at each step of which the Floquet solution must be found.

  • A new dynamic scheduling algorithm is proposed for CAN-based real-time system in this paper. The proposed algorithm is extended from an existing EDS(Earliest Deadline Scheduling) approach having a solution to the priority inversion. Using the proposed algorithm, the available bandwidth of network media can be checked dynamically, and consequently arbitration delay causing the miss of deadline can be avoided. Also, non-real time messages can be processed with their bandwidth allocation. Full network utilization and real-time transmission feasibility can be achieved through the algorithm. To evaluate the performance of algorithm, two simulation tests are performed. The first one is transmission data measurement per minute for periodic messages and the second one is feasibility in the system with both periodic messages and non-real time message.
