  • To satisfy the requirements of the real-time Internet services, queue management and scheduling schemes should be enhanced to accommodate the delay and jitter characteristic of them. Although the existing queue management schemes can address the congestion problems of TCP flows, they have some problems in supporting real-time services. That is, they show performance degradation when burst traffics are continuously going into the system after the queue is occupied at a predefined threshold level. In addition, under the congestion state, they show large jitter, which is not a desirable phenomenon for real-time transmissions. To resolve these problems, we propose a SDRED (State Dependent Random Early Detection) and dynamic scheduling scheme that can improve delay and jitter performances by adjusting RED parameters such as ma $x_{th}$ and $w_{q}$ according to the queue status. The SDRED is designed to adapt to the current traffic situation by adjusting the max,$_{th}$ and $w_{q}$ to four different levels. From the simulation results, we show that the SDRED decreases packet delays in a queue and has more stable jitter characteristics than the existing RED, BLUE, ARED and DSRED schemes.mes.mes.

  • This paper deals with the reliability and availability characteristics of three different series system configurations with warm standby components and a repairable service station. The failure time of the primary and warm standby are assumed to be exponentially distributed with parameters ${\lambda}$ and ${\alpha}$ respectively. The repair time distribution of each server is also exponentially distributed with parameter ${\mu}$. The breakdown time and the repair time of the service station are also assumed exponentially distributed with parameters ${\gamma}$ and ${\beta}$ respectively. We derive the reliability dependent on time, availability dependent on time, the mean time to failure, $MTTF_i$, and the steady-state availability $A_i$(${\infty}$) for three configurations and perform comparisons. Comparisons are made for specific values of distribution parameters and of the cost of the components. The three configurations are ranked based on: $MTTF_i$, $A_i$(${\infty}$), and $C_i/B_i$ where $B_i$ is either $MTTF_i$ or $A_i$(${\infty}$).

  • This paper deals with the long - time behavior of global bounded solutions for a non-autonomous dispersive-dissipative equation with time-dependent nonlinear damping terms under the null Dirichlet boundary condition. By a new Lyapunov functional and Łojasiewicz-Simon inequality, we show that any global bounded solution converges to a steady state and get the rate of convergence as well, which depends on the decay of the non-autonomous term g(x, t), when damping coefficients are integral positive and positive-negative, respectively.

  • The dynamic properties near (and at) a stable steady state are discussed, when a chemical system relaxes from the unstable steady state. The time-dependent correlation length for the fluctuating variable near a stable steady state is explicitly obtained by introducing the probability average for the variable satisfying the rate equation. The study is carried out about the effect of nonlinearity on the correlation length near (and at) a stable steady state.

  • This paper focuses on the problem of asymptotic stabilization for time-delay systems. To this end, a memoryless state feedback controller is proposed. Then, based on the Lyapunov method, a delay-dependent stabilization criterion is devised by taking the relationship between the terms in the Leibniz-Newton formula into account. Certain free weighting matrices are used to express this relationship and linear matrix inequalities (LMIs)-based algorithm to design the controller stabilizing the system.

  • A numerical analysis in linear-elastic state for prestressed concrete tanks including the time-dependent effects due to creep and shrinkage of concrete, relaxation of prestressing cable have been studied by many researchers. In this paper, not only the time dependent factor but also the nonlinear elasto-plastic behavior are considered. Prestresses are considerde in vertical and circumferential direction.

  • Qu et. al. (2000) proposed the quadratic inference functions (QIF) method to marginal model analysis of longitudinal data to improve the generalized estimating equations (GEE). It yields a substantial improvement in efficiency for the estimators of regression parameters when the working correlation is misspecified. But for the longitudinal data with time-dependent covariates, when the implicit full covariates conditional mean (FCCM) assumption is violated, the QIF can not provide more consistent and efficient estimator than GEE (Cho and Dashnyam, 2013). Lai and Small (2007) divided time-dependent covariates into three types and proposed generalized method of moment (GMM) for longitudinal data with time-dependent covariates. They showed that their GMM type II and GMM moment selection methods can be more ecient than GEE with independence working correlation (GEE-ind) in the case of type II time-dependent covariates. We develop upgraded QIF method for type II time-dependent covariates. We show that this upgraded QIF method can provide substantial gains in efficiency over QIF and GEE-ind in the case of type II time-dependent covariates.

  • We obtain probabilities at a crossing of two linearly time-dependent potentials that are constantly coupled to the other by solving a time-dependent Schrödinger equation. We find that the system which was initially localized at one state evolves to split into both states at the crossing. The probability splitting depends on the coupling strength $V_0$ such that the system stays at the initial state in its entirety when $V_0$ = 0 while it is divided equally in both states when $V_0 \rightarrow {\infty}$ . For a finite coupling the probability branching at the crossing is not even and thus a complete probability transfer at $t \rightarrow {\infty}$ is not achieved in the linear potential crossing problem. The Landau-Zener formula for transition probability at $t \rightarrow {\infty}$ is expressed in terms of the probabilities at the crossing.

  • A robust finite element based reinforced concrete bridge deck corrosion initiation model is applied for time-dependent probabilistic sensitivity analysis. The model is focused on uncertainties in the governing parameters that include variation of high performance concrete (HPC) diffusion coefficients, concrete cover depth, surface chloride concentration, holidays in reinforcements, coatings and critical chloride threshold level in several steel reinforcements. The corrosion initiation risk is expressed in the form of probability over intended life span of the bridge deck. Conducted study shows the time-dependent sensitivity analysis to evaluate the significance of governing parameters on chloride ingress rate, various steel reinforcement protection and the corrosion initiation likelihood. Results from this probabilistic analysis provide better insight into the effect of input parameters variation on the estimate of the corrosion initiation risk for the design of concrete structures in harsh chloride environments.

  • The time-dependent constitutive law was utilized based on viscoelastic-plasticity to predict the time-dependent spring-back behavior of aluminum alloy 6022-T4 sheets. Besides nonlinear viscoelasticity, non-quadratic anisotropic yield function, Yld2000-2d, was used to account for the anisotropic yield behavior, while the combined isotropic-kinematic hardening law was used to represent the Bauschinger effect and transient hardening. For verification purposes, finite element simulations were performed for the draw-bending and the results were compared with experimental results.
