  • In this paper, we demonstrate electromagnetic wave focusing and rectification based on time reversal as a smart method for far-field wireless power transfer. Time reversal in a complex propagation environment allows for transmission of high peak power pulses by focusing the electromagnetic waves selectively regardless of the receiver position. We demonstrate wave focusing and radio frequency (RF) to direct current (DC) rectification via numerical simulation of a complex propagation environment. The results reveal that time reversal can ensure peak power up to 12 dB greater compared to a narrowband continuous wave signal, thereby enhancing the rectified DC voltage with better efficiency.

  • In this paper, inverse building modeling was applied to building perimeter zones which have different window orientation. Two test zones of east-facing and west-facing zones in ERS(Energy Resource Station) building, which is representative of small commercial building, was used to test performance of cooling load calculation and peak cooling load reduction. The dynamic thermal load model for the east and west zone was validated using measured data for the zones and then it was used to investigate the effect of peak cooling load reduction by adjustment of indoor cooling temperature set points during on-peak time period. For the east zone, the peak load can be reduced to about 60% of the peak load for conventional control even without any precooling. For the west zone, PLR is nearly independent of the start of the on-peak period until a start time of 1pm. Furthermore, PLR has a small dependence on the precooling duration. Without any precooling, the peak cooling load can be reduced to about 35% of the peak load associated with conventional control.

  • The purpose of this study were to analyze the agricultural work and household work of farm couples. Time use survey are vital towards understanding social obligations and also an important input policy analysis. Rural farm work divided into the peak and the off-peak farming seasons was analysed to study the allocation of daily time use among farm couples. The major results are as follow: Farm work time is longer in the peak than in the off-peak. Especially, women farmer's farming work time in the off-peak is still longer than man farmer's that. The gender difference in total work time in this study shows that the women farmers work more. During both seasons, the time allocation of the women farmer were unbalanced because of the differences in the level of workload by gender.

  • We explored how changes in blood vessel compliance affected the systolic rise time (SRT) of the maximum blood pressure (BP) peak wave and the diastolic fall time (DFT) of the minimal BP peak wave, compared to photoplethysmograpic (PPG) parameters, using a two-compartment, second-order, arterial Windkessel model. We employed earlier two-compartment Windkessel models and the components thereof to construct equivalent blood vessel circuits, and reproduced BP waveforms using PSpice technology. The SRT and DFT values were obtained via circuit simulation, considering variations in compliance (the dominant influence on blood vessel parameters attributable to BP changes). And then performed regression analysis to identify how compliance affected the SRT and DFT. We compared the SRTs and DFTs of BP waves to the PPG values by reference to BP changes in each subject. We confirmed that the time-shift propensities of BP waves and the PPG data were highly consistent. However, the time shifts differed significantly among subjects. These simulation and experimental results allowed us to construct an initial trend curve of individual BP peak time (measured via wrist PPG evaluations at three arm positions) that facilitated accurate individual BP estimations.

  • We revisit the relation between the peak luminosity $L_{iso}$ and the spectral time lag in the source frame. Since gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are generally thought to be beamed, it is natural to expect that the collimation-corrected peak luminosity may well correlate with the spectral time lag in the source frame if the lag-luminosity relation in the GRB source frame exists. With 12 long GRBs detected by the Swift satellite, whose redshift and spectral lags in the source frame are known, we computed $L_{0,H}$ and $L_{0,W}$ using bulk Lorentz factors ${\Gamma}_{0,H}$ and ${\Gamma}_{0,W}$ archived in the published literature, where the subscripts H and W represent homogeneous and wind-like circumburst environments, respectively. We have confirmed that the isotropic peak luminosity correlates with the spectral time lag in the source frame. We have also confirmed that there is an anti-correlation between the source-frame spectral lag and the peak energy, $E_{peak}$ (1 + z) in the source frame. We have found that the collimation-corrected luminosity correlates in a similar way with the spectral lag, except that the correlations are somewhat less tight. The correlation in the wind density profile seems to agree with the isotropic peak luminosity case better than in the homogeneous case. Finally we conclude by briefly discussing its implications.

  • In the present paper, a novel fast peak detector for single- or three-phase unsymmetrical voltage sags is proposed. The proposed detector is modified from a single-phase digital phase-locked loop based on a d-q transformation using an all-pass filter (APF). APF generates a virtual phase with $90^{\circ}$ phase delay. However, this virtual phase cannot reflect a sudden change of the grid voltage in the moment of voltage sag, which causes a peak value to be significantly distorted and to settle down slowly. Specifically, the settling time of the peak value is too long when voltage sag occurs around a zero crossing, such as phase $0^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$. This paper describes the operating principle of the APF problem and proposes a modified all-pass filter (MAPF) to mitigate the inherent APF problem. In addition, a new fast peak detector using MAPF is proposed. The proposed detector is able to calculate a peak value within 0.5 ms, even when voltage sag occurs around zero crossing. The proposed fast peak detector is compared with the conventional detector using APF. Results show that the proposed detector has faster detection time in the whole phase range. Furthermore, the proposed fast peak detector can be effectively applied to unsymmetrical three-phase voltage sags. Simulation and experimental results verify the advantages of the proposed detector and MAPF.

Calibrated in Gwan, the amount of energy(Energy), height of main peak(H1), height of aorticvalley(H2), height of aortic peak(H3), total area of pulse wave(At), and area of main peak width(Aw) of the CI group were higher than those of the healthy group. 2. Calibrated in Cheek, Energy, H1, H2, H3, height of valve valley(H4), At, Aw, and main peak angle(MPA) of the CI group were higher than those of the healthy group. 3. Among the healthy (subjects) group, Taeumin showed the highest contact pressure(CP) and height of valve peak(H5) calibrated in Chon. The main peak width divided by whole time of pulse wave(MPW/T) calibrated in Gwan and Cheok, was highest in Soyangin and was lowest in Taeumin. The H3 divided by H1(H3/H1) and the time to valve valley minus the time to main peak and divided by T[(T4-T1)/T] calibrated in Cheek were highest in Soyangin. The time to main peak(T1) was longest in Soumin. 4. Among the CI group, At calibrated in Chon was widest in Taeumin and was narrowest in Soumin The time to aortic peak(T3) calibrated in Cheek was longest in Soumin and was shortest in Soyangin. The time to valve peak(T5) was shortest in Soyangin. 5. There were main effects of cerebral infarction in the area of systolic period(As) and area of diastolic period(Ad) calibrated in Chon, Energy calibrated in Cwan, and Energy, H1, H2, H3, (H4+H5)/Hl, and MPA calibrated in Cheek. 6. There were main effects of Sasang Constitution in (T4-T1)/T, area of systolic period(As), and Ad calibrated in Chon. 7. The interactions between the cerebral infarction and Sasang Constitution were observed in H5/H1 , T, At, As, Ad, and MPA calibrated in Chon, H4, T4, (T4-T1)/T, As, and Ad calibrated in Cwan, and 74,75, and MPW calibrated in Cheok. Therefore, we concluded that pulse analyzer was useful to determine the risk degree of cerebral infarction and Sasang Constitution.

  • On contraction of the muscles, marked changes in X-ray reflections are observed, suggesting that conformational changes of contractile molecules and the movement of myosin heads during muscle contraction. The time needed to the peak tension after the onset of stimulation and the amount of peak tension depend on the number of twitch cycle. It was found that the successive twitches decreased not only the time needed to the peak tension after the onset of stimulation but also the time needed to the maximum change of the X-ray intensity. However, the difference of the time between the peak tension and the maximum intensity change($T_{i}-I_{i}$) is nearly the same at any twitch. Based on these results the causes of the decrease of $T_{i}$ and $I_{i}$, and physiological implication of $T_{i}-I_{i}$ are discussed.
