This paper presents a dynamic precedence queue mechanism to resolve unexpected transmission delay of a lower priority transaction in a CAN based system which keeps a fixed priority in data transactions. The mechanism is implemented in the upper sub-layer of the data link layer (DLL), which is fully compatible with the original medium access control layer protocol of CAN. Thus the mechanism can be implemented dynamically while the data transactions are going on without any hardware modification. The CAN protocol was originally developed to be used in the automotive industry and it was recently applied for a broader class of automated factories. Even though CAN is able to satisfy most of real-time requirements found in automated environments, it is not to enforce either a fair subdivision of the network bandwidth among the stations or a satisfactory distribution of the access delays in message transmissions. The proposed solution provides a superset of the CAN logical link layer control, which can coexist with the older CAN applications. Through the real experiments, effectiveness of the proposed mechanism is verified.

This paper presents a hybrid system combining lead rubber bearings and hydraulic actuators controlled by a μ-synthesis method for seismic response control of a cable-stayed bridge. A hybrid system could alleviate some of restrictions and limitations that exist when each system is acting alone because multiple control devices are operating. Therefore, the overall control performance of a hybrid system may be improved compared to each system, however the overall system robustness may be negatively impacted by active device in the hybrid system or active controller may cause instability due to small margins. Therefore, a f-synthesis method that guarantees the robust performance is considered to enhance the possibility of real applications of the control system. The control performances of the proposed control system are compared with those of passive, active, semiactive control systems and hybrid system controlled by LQG algorithm and an extensive robust analysis with respect to stiffness and mass matrices perturbation and time delay of actuator is performed. Numerical simulation results show that the control performance of the proposed control system is superior to that of the passive system and slightly better than that of the active and semiactive systems and two hybrid systems show similar control performances. Furthermore, the hybrid system controlled by a μ-synthesis method shows the good robustness without loss of control performances. Therefore, the proposed control system could effectively be used to seismically excited cable-stayed bridge which contains many uncertainties.
In this paper, we develop design procedures for carrier tracking loop for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems or other systems of blocked data. In such communication systems, phase error measurements are made infrequent enough to invalidate the traditional loop design methodology which is based on analog loop design. We analyze the degradation in the OFDM schemes caused by the tracking loop and show how the performance is dependent on the rms phase error, where we distinguished between the effect of the variance in the average phase over the symbol and the effect of the phase change over the symbol. We derive the optimal tracking loop including optional delay in the loop caused by processing time. Our solution is general and includes arbitrary phase noise apd additive noise spectrums. In order to guarantee a well behaved solution, we have to check the design against margin constraints subject to uncertainties. In case the optimal loop does not meet the required margin constraints subjected to uncertainties, it is shown how to apply a method taken from control theory to find a controller. Alternatively, if we restrict the solution to first or second order loops, we give a simple loop design procedure which may be sufficient in many cases. Extensions of the method are shown for using both pilot symbols and data symbols in the OFDM receiver for phase tracking. We compare our results to other methods commonly used in OFDM receivers and we show that a large improvement can be gained.

When 2 sets of PID controllers are coupled directly each other to configure a closed control loop on behalf of coupling a controller and a plant. the behaviors or this exclusive loop system are expected to be unique in inherent system responses. If its properties be disclosed and generalized well in advance, it is possible for us to use the results for the purpose of fault detection and performance monitoring between control stations from the stage of system design. particularly in such cases as cascade control systems. In this paper. general properties of the proposed system are analyzed firstly to check whether it is controllable and how its steady responses would be. To simplify calculation, the analysis has been performed based on the transfer equation derived from a modelled case which consists of 2 PI controllers and signal converters between them. including time delay element and first-lag element to consider the situation of signal transmission. The results acquired from simulation are suggested to show how it works actually.

The magnetic bearing system are intrinsically unstable, and need the feedback control of electromagnetic forces with measured displacements. So the controller design plays an important role in constructing high performance magnetic bearing system. In case of magnetic bearing system, the order of identified model is high because of unknown dynamics included in closed loop systems - such as sensor dynamics, actuator dynamics - and non-linearity of magnetic bearings itself. In this paper the identification and robust control of flexible rotor supported by magnetic bearing are discussed. We measure and identify overall system that contains not only flexible rotor model but also magnetic bearing and time delay. The structured and unstructured uncertainties are modeled that cover variations of natural frequencies, uncertainties in sensor and actuator gains and unmodeled dynamics. And desired performances are specified with several weighting function. Using augmented system that includes identified model, uncertainties, and weighting functions, μ-synthesis is applied to flexible rotor supported with magnetic bearing. The flexible rotor was spin up over the first flexible critical speed.
This paper discusses details of modeling and robust control of an AMB (active magnetic bearing) spindle, and part I presents a modeling and validation process of the AMB spindle. There are many components in AMB spindle : electromagnetic actuator, sensor, rotor, power amplifier and digital controller. If each component is carefully modeled and evaluated, the components have tight structured uncertainty bounds and achievable performance of the system increases. However, since some unknown dynamics may exist and the augmented plant could show some discrepancy with the real plant, the validation of the augmented plant is needed through measuring overall frequency responses of the actual plant. In addition, it is necessary to combine several components and identify them with a reduced order model. First, all components of the AMB spindle are carefully modeled and identified based on experimental data, which also render valuable information in quantifying structured uncertainties. Since sensors, power amplifiers and discretization dynamics can be considered as time delay components, such dynamics are combined and identified with a reduced order. Then, frequency responses of the open-loop plant are measured through closed-loop experiments to validate the augmented plant. The whole modeling process gives an accurate nominal model of a low order for the robust control design.

We propose a novel adaptive feed forward controller (AFC) design method for rejecting the effect of micro actuator resonance in the design of dual-stage actuator servo systems for disk drives. Microactuator's resonance is one of important issues in dual-stage actuator servo, which varies up to ${\pm}10%$ per product and even during operation. We derive an adaptive algorithm for the proposed AFC design, which turns out to be identical to the delayed-x LMS algorithm which is a special form of the filtered-x LMS algorithm. In the algorithm, coefficients of the AFC are adapted by the residuals of constrained structure defined in such a way that the coefficients become time invariant. Contrary to the conventional AFC, it considers the phase delay of closed-loop transfer function at resonance frequency for system stability. We also apply an adaptive algorithm with frequency tracking capability. The frequency tracking algorithm is induced by the orthogonality of AFC coefficients. Computer simulations are carried out to demonstrate effect of the proposed AFCs.

A conventional contact type brake system which uses a hydraulic system has mny Problems such as time delay response due to pressure build-up, brake pad wear due to contact movement, bulky size, and low braking performance in high speed region. As vehicle speed increases, a more powerful brake system is required to ensure vehicle safety and reliability. In this work, a contactless brake system of an eddy current type is proposed to overcome problems. Optimal torque control which minimizes a braking distance is investigated with a scaled-down model of an eddy current type brake. It is possible to realize optimal torque control when a maximum friction coefficient (or desired slip ratio) corresponding to road condition is maintained. Braking force analysis for a scaled-down model is done theoretically and experimentally compensated. To accomplish optimal torque control of an eddy current type brake system, a sliding mode control technique which is, one of the robust nonlinear control technique is developed. Robustness of the sliding mode controller is verified by investigating the braking performance when friction coefficient is varied. Simulation and experimental results will be presented to show that it has superior performance compared to the conventional method.

Network anomaly detection in Software Defined Networking, especially the detection of DDoS attack, has been given great attention in recent years. It is convenient to build the Traffic Matrix from a global view in SDN. However, the monitoring and management of high-volume feature-rich traffic in large networks brings significant challenges. In this paper, we propose a moving window Principal Components Analysis based anomaly detection and mitigation approach to map data onto a low-dimensional subspace and keep monitoring the network state in real-time. Once the anomaly is detected, the controller will install the defense flow table rules onto the corresponding data plane switches to mitigate the attack. Furthermore, we evaluate our approach with experiments. The Receiver Operating Characteristic curves show that our approach performs well in both detection probability and false alarm probability compared with the entropy-based approach. In addition, the mitigation effect is impressive that our approach can prevent most of the attacking traffic. At last, we evaluate the overhead of the system, including the detection delay and utilization of CPU, which is not excessive. Our anomaly detection approach is lightweight and effective.

We propose a new method to deal with the optimized auto-tuning for the PID controller which is used to the process-control in various fields. First of all, in this method, 1st order delay system with dead time which is modelled from the unit step response of the system is Pade-approximated, then initial values are determined by the Ziegler-Nichols method and deciding binary strings of parents generation using by the fitness values of genetic algorithms, we perform selection, crossover and mutation to generate the descendant generation. The advantage of this method is better than the Ziegler-Nickels method in characteristic of output, and has extent of applying without limit of K, L, T parameters.
