A novel measurement method to obtain the 6-DOF motions of arbitrary rigid bodies is proposed in this paper. The method adopts a specially fabricated mirror called 3-facet mirror, which looks like a triangular pyramid haying an equilateral cross-sectional shape. The mirror is mounted on the objects to be measured, illuminated by a laser beam having circular profile, and reflects the laser beam in three different directions. Three PSDs(position sensitive detector) detect the three beams reflected by the mirror, respectively. From the signals of the PSDs, we can calculate the 3-dimensional position and orientation of the 3-facet mirror, and thus enabling us to determine the 3-dimensional position and orientation of the objects. In this paper, we model the relationship between the 3-dimensional position and orientation of an object in motion and the outputs of three PSDs. A series of experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the proposed sensing system can be an effective means of obtaining 3-dimensional position and orientation of arbitrary objects and provide resonable measurement accuracy.
Micro-PIV is a well-known method for measurement of two- dimensional, two-component velocity in the microfluidic devices. Lots of the micro fluidic devices generate three-dimensional flow and 3D measurement of velocity is helpful to understand the physics of micro flow phenomena. In this study, we developed new micro 3D measurement method by applying 2-frame PTV in stereoscopic micro system. In this study, we did the validation study of SMPTV by using the simulated flow model to verify the accuracy and the feasibility of measurement and compared with SMPIV method. The results showed that SMPTV provides better spatial resolution and measurement accuracy than SMPIV method.
The purposes of this study lied in the analysis and classification of neck-base circumference shapes of the women in their twenties, by the application of three-dimensional automatic measurement data of human body, and thereby in the understanding of neck-base circumference shapes by the classified type. The findings are as follows: 1. The comparison of three-dimensional human body measurement items relating to the neck-base circumference part of the women in their twenties indicated that the largest individual difference was found in cervicale-center-anterior neck radius than in other items. 2. The factor analysis, which was conducted to extract the factors constituting the neck-base circumference, showed the shape of cervicale(factor 1), the shape of section neck(factor 2), the thickness of neck(factor 3), the shape of anterior neck(factor 4), and the shape of side neck(factor 5). 3. The classification of the neck-base circumference shapes resulted in three types. Type 1 was the shape of a reverse triangle hanging forward, Type 2 was that of a circle, and Type 3 was that of an oval open to the sides.
Inspection and shape measurement of three-dimensional objects are widely needed in industries for quality monitoring and control. A number of visual or optical technologies have been successfully applied to measure three dimensional surfaces. Especially, the shape measurement using an interferometric principle becomes a successful methodology. However, those conventional interferometric methods to measure surface profile have an inherent shortcoming, namely 2∏ ambiguity problem. The problem inevitably happens when the object to be measured has discontinuous shape due to the repetition of interferometric signal with phase period of 2∏. Therefore, in this paper, we choose as a shape measuring method, ...
A precision displacement measurement system of 3-DOF micro motions is proposed in this paper. The measurement system is composed of two diode lasers, two quadratic PSDs, two beam splitters and a sphere whose surface is highly reflective. In this measurement system, the sphere reflector is mounted on the platform of positioning devices whose 3-DOF translational motions are to be measured, and the sensitive areas of two PSDs are oriented toward the center point of the sphere reflector. Each laser beam emitted from two diode laser sources is reflected at the surface of sphere and arrives at two PSDs. Each PSD serves as a 2-dimensional sensor, providing the information on the 3-dimensional position of the sphere. In this paper, we model the relationship between the outputs of two PSDs and 3-DOF translational motions of the sphere mounted on the object. Based on a deduced measurement model, we perform measurement simulation and evaluate the performance of the proposed measurement system: linearity, sensitivity, and measurement error. The simulation results show that the proposed measurement system can be valid means of precision displacement measurement of 3-dimensional micro motions.
Additional functional upgrades to the large-area compton camera (LACC) measurement device that can provide characteristics evaluation information (nuclear species and radioactivity) and two-dimensional or three-dimensional distribution imaging information of radioactive materials existing in surface or internal of concrete structures are required in terms of work stability and efficiency in order to apply to actual decommissioning sites such as nuclear power plants or medical cyclotron facilities by using this measurement device. To this purpose, the technology that allows radiation workers to intuitively and visually check the distribution of radioactive materials in advance by matching the two-dimensional distribution imaging information of radioactive materials obtained through the LACC measurement device and visual imaging of the measurement zone (10 m × 5 m) was developed. In addition, the separate system that can automatically adjust the position (height) in units of the measurement area size (0.7 m × 0.3 m × 0.8 m) of the LACC measurement device was developed and the integrated management system for characteristics evaluation information and two-dimensional or three-dimensional distribution imaging information obtained per unit of measurement for radioactive materials was developed. These functional upgrades related to LACC measurement device can improve work efficiency and safety when measuring radioactivity of concrete structures and enable the establishment of appropriate decommissioning strategies using radioactivity measurement information for decommissioning nuclear power plants or medical cyclotron facilities.
A new approach to the three-dimensional measurement of the object surface and moving particles is introduced. A single TV camera with an apparatus to add the circular bias to the image enables us to record the three-dimensional information of measuring points as streaks on a single image. Every shaped of the streak on the image plane is related to the position of the measuring point. the information is extracted form the image using an image processign technique.
Quality control (QC) of Computed Tomography (CT) devices is based on image quality measurement on AAPM CT phantom which is a standard phantom. Although it is possible to control the accuracy of the CT apparatus, it is expensive and has a disadvantage of low penetration rate. Therefore, in this study, we make image quality measurement phantom at low cost using FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) type three-dimensional printer and try to analyze the usefulness, compare it with existing standard phantom. To print a phantom, We used three-dimensional printer of the FFF system and PLA (Poly Lactic Acid, density: $1.24g/cm^3$) filament, and the CT device of 64 MDCT (Aquilion CX, Toshiba, Japan). In addition, we printed a phantom using three-dimensional printer after design using various tool based on existing standard phantom. For image quality evaluation, AAPM CT phantom and self-generated phantom were measured 10 times for each block. The measured data were analyzed for significance using the Mannwhiteney U-test of SPSS (Version 22.0, SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA). As a result of the analysis, phantom fabricated with three-dimensional printer and standard phantom showed no significant difference (p>0.05). Furthermore, we confirmed that image quality measurement performance of a phantom using three-dimensional printer is similar to the existing standard phantom. In conclusion, we confirmed the possibility of low cost phantom fabrication using three dimensional printer.
Three-dimensional vortical structures in the wake behind a road vehicle has been visualized with the help of two-dimensional PIV measurement data. A three-dimensional velocity field has been reconstructed from several sectional measurement data in the x-y, y-z and z-x planes. Isovorticity surface observed by stacking only the sectional data in each plane, does not show the vortical structures within the recirculation region but represents only the strong shear flows. Thus, in the present study, the velocity component normal to the x-y plane is obtained by interpolating those velocities in the z-x plane. Then, a $\lambda_{2}$-definition which captures the local pressure minimum or vortex core, is applied to visualize the vortices in the recirculation region. The final results represent a successful configuration for the three-dimensional vortices.
Errors resulting from magnification variations of a optical system are largely generated in three-dimensional shape measurements based on depth-from-focus. In the case of measuring the surface morphology of tiny objects based on DFF, images are acquired with a very small interval so that magnification changes can be minimized. However, the magnification variations are actually existed in the acquired images and so focus measures are wrongly or ambiguously extracted. In this paper, a methodology with linear magnification calibrations, based on DFF, is proposed to make more accurate measurement in surface morphology with high depth discontinuity, compared with previous ones. Several experiments show that the proposed method outperforms existing ones without magnification calibrations.
