  • In this study, disk type of thermal barrier coating system for gas turbine blade was isothermally aged in the furnace changing exposure time and temperature. The aging conditions that determination occurs were determined by the extensive microscopic analyses and bond tests for each aging condition. The delamination map was drawn from the time-temperature matrix form which summarize the delamination conditions. Finally, a method to draw the delamination life diagram of a thermal barrier coating system by using the delamination map was suggested

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the thermal embrittlement and the mechanical properties of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel aged at high temperature for the extended periods. Original, aged artificiall y and used material were tested to obtain the tensile strength, hardness and impact absorbed energy. Tensile strength, hardness and impact absorbed energy decreased with the increasing aging time. The carbide morphology with the thermal embrittlement was found to contribute to the mechanical property change by X-Ray diffraction method.

  • Cast austenitic stainless steel is used for several components, such as primary coolant piping, elbow, pump casing and valve bodies in light water reactors. These components are subject to thermal aging at the reactor operating temperature. Thermal aging results in spinodal decomposition of the delta-ferrite leading to increased strength and decreased toughness. This study shows that ferrite content can be predicted by use of the artificial neural network. The neural network has trained learning data of chemical components and ferrite contents using backpropagation learning process. The predicted results of the ferrite content using trained neural network are in good agreement with experimental ones.

  • In a transformer, thermal stress is the most influential parameter affecting the aging behavior of insulation system. The aging behavior of insulation system in transformer is determined mainly by the thermal conditions inside the transformer. The thermal stress on the insulation system may occur from operation in a high temperature caused by overloading or local overheating. Thus, this paper investigated the condition monitoring of insulation condition in thermally accelerated aged transformer oils by in-situ sensor. The condition of aged samples was investigated by measurements of relative permittivity i.e. capacitance change by capacitive sensor. Results from the experiments are presented in this paper.

  • In this paper, we have investigated thermal properties of semiconductive shield materials for power cables. EEA (Ethylene Ethyl Acrylate) was used for base polymer and TGA (Thermal Gravimetric Analysis) and AFM (Atomic Force Microscope) were investigated with various carbon black and CNT (carbon nanotube) contents. When CNT reinforced composites and conventional composite were investigated with TGA, we knew that thermal properties of CNT reinforced composite were better than them of conventional composite. To investigate roughness, we used AFM. Before and after aging, AFM was applied and after aging, roughness was increased. As a result, suitable CNT and CB(carbon black) content is CNT:CB=50:50.

  • The electrical, chemical and mechanical characteristics in transformer insulations are changed due to thermal stress. It is known that characteristics of transformer insulations is deteriorated such as decrease of dielectric strength, deterioration of dielectric constant and tensile strength of paper as transformer oil and paper are aged by thermal stress. Furthermore, chemical characteristics of them are deteriorated as like increment of moisture contents and dissolved by-products in oil, etc. In this paper we have been investigated chemical characteristics of transformer by accelerated thermal aging. For this working we have made experimental test cell and aged at a temperature up to $140^{\circ}C$ for 500 hours. The oil-paper insulation samples have been measured at intervals of 100 hours. For analysis we used Karl-Fisher titration method and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

  • In this paper, we analyzed the operating characteristics of a ventilating fan due to overload and overheating. The experiment assumed the forcible restraint of the blade due to external objects and the aging process. We analyzed the experimental temperature and operating characteristics of the three places in the interior of the ventilating fan. As a result of the analysis, the temperature distribution was highest to lowest in the following order: the thermal fuse, the motor inside, and the above winding. There was smell of burning enamel in the restraint experiment. Following the thermal fuse operation, the insulation of motor winding was good. In the case of rated voltage and new ventilating fan restrained for about 4hours, and the results of restraint experiments in the presence or absence of the thermal fuse, no risk of deformation or fire due to overheating was identified. Henceforward, ignition hazard experiments will be required for additional factors of aging, pollution, and defective insulation.

  • The material properties of heat resistant materials at power plants are affected by thermal aging as operating time is accumulated. In this study, the influence of thermal aging on yield strength, tensile strength and fracture behavior for Mod.9Cr-1Mo (ASME Grade 91) steel which is a material widely adopted for Generation IV nuclear energy system has been investigated and analyzed. Service exposed Gr.91 steel materials sampled from a piping system of an ultra-supercritical (USC) plant in Korea with accumulated operation time of 73,716 hours were used for material testing. The test results of the service exposed material specimens were compared with those of the virgin Gr.91 steel specimens. Those test data were compared with the material properties of ASME code and RCC-MRx code. Conservatisms of the material properties in the design codes have been quantified based on the comparisons of those from virgin and service exposed material specimens.

  • EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer)/silicone rubber blends were prepared and the influence of a compatibilizer and thermal aging on the properties of the blends was investigated. The blends of which the compositions were varied in the range of 90/10 through $10/90\;wt\%$ were melt mixed by using a Brabender Plasticoder (internal mixer) and were vulcanized by a hot press. The morphology of the vulcanized EPDM/SR blends was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). After the thermal Aging for 24, 48, 96 hrs at $100^{\circ}C$ in an air oven, hardness, tensile strength, elongation and contact angle of the blends were investigated. From the result of the morphology, it was confirmed that the domain size of the blends containing the compatibilizer was reduced. As the increase of the thermal aging time, hardness and tensile strength of the blends decreased but elongation and contact angle increased.
