Tyrosine phosphorylation plays an important role in regulating human physiological and pathological processes. Functional stabilization of tyrosine phosphorylation largely contributes to the balanced, coordinated regulation of protein tyrosine kinases (PTKs) and protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs). Research has revealed PTPs play an important suppressive role in carcinogenesis and progression by reversing oncoprotein functions. Receptor-type protein tyrosine phosphatase O (PTPRO) as one member of the PTPs family has also been identified to have some roles in tumor development. Some reports have shown PTPRO over-expression in tumors can not only inhibit the frequency of tumor cell division and induce tumor cell death, but also suppress migration. However, the tumor-suppression mechanisms are very complex and understanding is incomplete, which in some degree blocks the further development of PTPRO. Hence, in order to resolve this problem, we here have summarized research findings to draw meaningful conclusions. We found tumor-suppression mechanisms of PTPRO to be diverse, such as controlling G0/G1 of the tumor cell proliferation cycle, inhibiting substrate phosphorylation, down-regulating transcription activators and other activities. In clinical anticancer efforts, expression level of PTPRO in tumors can not only serve as a biomarker to monitor the prognosis of patients, but act as an epigenetic biomarker for noninvasive diagnosis. In addition, the re-activation of PTPRO in tumor tissues, not only can induce tumor volume reduction, but also enhance the susceptibility to chemotherapy drugs. So, we can propose that these research findings of PTPRO will not only support new study ideas and directions for other tumor-suppressors, importantly, but also supply a theoretical basis for researching new molecular targeting agents in the future.

$Na^+$ ion conductivity can be improved by the substitution of an Mg atom for an Al atom to form a nonstoichiometric $Na^+$$\beta$-alumina. We performed a first principles study to investigate the most stable substitution site of an Mg atom and the resulting structural change of the nonstoichiometric $Na^+$$\beta$-alumina. Al atoms were classified as four different layers in the spinel block that are separated by conduction planes in the nonstoichiometric $Na^+$$\beta$-alumina. The substitution of an Mg atom for an Al atom at a tetragonal site was more favorable than that at an octahedral site. The substitution in the spinel block was more favorable than that close to the conduction plane. This result was well explained by the volume changes of the polyhedrons, by the standard deviation of the Mg-O distance, and by the comparison with bulk MgO structure. Our result indicates that the most preferable site for the Mg atom was the tetrahedral site at the spinel block in the nonstoichiometric $Na^+$$\beta$-alumina.

We aimed to propose a novel computational approach to predict the electromechanical performance of pre- and post-mitral valve cerclage annuloplasty (MVCA). Furthermore, we tested a virtual estimation method to optimize the left ventricular basement tightening scheme using a pre-MVCA computer model. The present model combines the three-dimensional (3D) electromechanics of the ventricles with the vascular hemodynamics implemented in a lumped parameter model. 3D models of pre- and post-MVCA were reconstructed from the computed tomography (CT) images of two patients and simulated by solving the electromechanical-governing equations with the finite element method. Computed results indicate that reduction of the dilated heart chambers volume (reverse remodeling) appears to be dependent on ventricular stress distribution. Reduced ventricular stresses in the basement after MVCA treatment were observed in the patients who showed reverse remodeling of heart during follow up over 6 months. In the case who failed to show reverse remodeling after MVCA, more virtual tightening of the ventricular basement diameter than the actual model can induce stress unloading, aiding in heart recovery. The simulation result that virtual tightening of the ventricular basement resulted in a marked increase of myocardial stress unloading provides in silico evidence for a functional impact of MVCA treatment on cardiac mechanics and post-operative heart recovery. This technique contributes to establishing a pre-operative virtual rehearsal procedure before MVCA treatment by using patient-specific cardiac electromechanical modeling of pre-MVCA.

Both thermoplastic formability and electrical conductivity of Al-Ni-Y metallic glass with 12 different compositions have been investigated in the present study with an aim to apply as a functional material, i.e. as a binder of Ag powders in Ag paste for silicon solar cell. The thermoplastic formability is basically influenced by thermal stability and fragility of supercooled liquid which can be reflected by the temperature range for the supercooled liquid region (${\Delta}T_x$) and the difference in specific heat between the frozen glass state and the supercooled liquid state (${\Delta}C_p$). The measured ${\Delta}T_x$ and ${\Delta}C_p$ values show a strong composition dependence. However, the composition showing the highest ${\Delta}T_x$ and ${\Delta}C_p$ does not correspond to the composition with the highest amount of Ni and Y. It is considered that higher ${\Delta}T_x$ and ${\Delta}C_p$ may be related to enhancement of icosahedral SRO near $T_g$ during cooling. On the other hand, electrical resistivity varies with the change of Al contents as well as with the change of the volume fraction of each phase after crystallization. The composition range with the optimum combination of thermoplastic formability and electrical conductivity in Al-Ni-Y system located inside the composition triangle whose vertices compositions are $Al_{87}Ni_3Y_{10}$, $Al_{85}Ni_5Y_{10}$, and $Al_{86}Ni_5Y_9$.

This study was carried out to investigate the quality characteristics of yanggaeng added with jujube extracts. The jujube extracts were incorporated into yanggaeng at different levels (containing 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% jujube extracts) based on the total weight of water. To analyze the quality characteristics in the manufacture of yanggaengs, pH, moisture content, density of dough, height, specific volume, baking loss, texture, color, antioxidant activity, total polyphenol content, and sensory test were determined. As the content of jujube powder increased, the pH of yanggaengs decreased but the acidity increased. There was no significant difference in the moisture content depending on the addition of jujube extracts. The color, lightness and redness of yanggaengs decreased as the concentration of the extract increased, whereas the yellowish color increased. As the jujube extracts content increased, total polyphenol content, antioxidant activity, reducing sugar and total tannins significantly increased. The yanggaeng contains jujube extract with acceptable sensory properties, such as color, sweet taste, and overall acceptability, which could be integrated into yanggaengs to meet the taste and functional needs of the consumers.

Electrochemical devices are constructed for continuous syngas (CO + H2) production with controlled selectivity between CO2 and proton reduction reactions. The ratio of CO to H2, or the faradaic efficiency toward CO generation, was mechanically manipulated by adjusting the space volume between the cathode and the polymer gas separator in the device. In particular, the area added between the cathode and the ion-conducting polymer using 0.5 M KHCO3 catholyte regulated the solution acidity and proton reduction kinetics in the flow cell. The faradaic efficiency of CO production was controlled as a function of the distance between the polymer separator and cathode in addition to that manipulated by the electrode potential. Further, the electrochemical CO2 reduction device using Au NPs presented a stable operation for more than 23 h at different H2:CO production levels, demonstrating the functional stability of the flow cell utilizing the mechanical variable as an important operational factor.

von Willebrand factor (vWF) is a multimeric glycoprotein which functions within the coagulation system. It colocalizes with factor VIII (FVIII) by non-covalent interaction and alters its intracellular trafficking. vWF is also instrumental in maintaining the stability of secreted FVIII. The principal objective of this study was to generate a lentivirus-based vWF expression vector for gene therapy of hemophilia A. We inserted a vWF of 8.8 Kb into a lentiviral vector thereby producing VSV-G-pseudotyped vEx52. However, its titer was quite low, presumably because the length of vWF gene exceeds the size limit of the lentiviral vector. In order to overcome the low-titer, we concentrated the vEx52 and thus increased the efficiency of transduction approximately 6-fold with $1/100^{th}$ of the volume. However, as concentration requires an additional laborious step, we attempted to enhance the transduction efficiency by deleting exons 24-46 and 29-46 in pRex52 to construct pRex23 and pRex28, and in pvEx52, yielding pvEx23 and pvEx28, respectively. The transfected pRex52 had a profound effect on the activity of secreted FVIII, and this activity declined as domains of vWF were deleted. However, when the domain-deleted vWF-lentiviruses were transduced into K562 cells, the vEx28 increased the activity of the secreted FVIII compared to what was observed with vEx52. This result is probably due to higher efficiencies of transduction and expression while retaining the essential domains required for proper interaction with FVIII.
In the late 1970s, the method of quantitative and scientific space structural analysis based on graph theory was introduced to the process of space design, which arranges design and functional elements, as relying heavily on intuition could produce errors due to unverified experiences and prejudices of the designer. As the method of space analysis is complex and hard to express visually and requires repetitive operations, it was discussed theoretically only. However, with the development of computer performance and graphic in recent years, visualization became possible. But the method of visual structural analysis of space is at the level of two dimensions and it is not easy to get accurate data when it is applied to limited three dimensional space such as an interior space. For the visual structural analysis of space, this study presents 4 indices including visibility volume level, pure visibility connection frequency, effective visibility connection frequency, and path visibility connection frequency. This study also presents space division using three dimensional arrangement rather than the existing vector operation method and raytracing algorithm at the lattice constant. Based on this, an analysis tool for the visible regions of three dimensional space that is capable of evaluating at multiple points by using three dimensional game engine and presentation tool that allows the analyzer to interpret the data effectively is made. It is applied to 2 prototype models by displacing Z axis, and the results are compared with UCL Depthmap to verify the validity of data and evaluate its usefulness as a multidimensional, multi-view space analysis tool.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has been studied on the reuse of glass bottles. The system boundary in this study encompassed from gate to gate such as production and transportation. A 360 mL volume of a glass bottle was selected as the functional unit. The environmental impact assessments was studied on 6 categories including abiotic resource depletion, acidification, eutrophication, global warming, ozone depletion, and photochemical oxidant creation. The results showed that the most significant impact categories were abiotic resource depletion (48.63%) and global warming (46.27%), and the rest categories revealed insignificant impacts. In the whole system, the chemicals used for the new bottle production revealed the major contribution to the environmental impacts (71.24%), followed by the use of electricity (16.74%) and transportation (11.8%). In addition, the environmental impact of sodium silicate to be put into the stage of the new bottle production was found to be 45.68%, causing severe influence on abiotic resource depletion and global warming.
