  • With the wide deployment of biometric authentication systems, several issues pertaining security and privacy of the biometric template have gained great attention from the research community. To resolve these issues, a number of biometric template protection methods have been proposed. However, the design of a template protection method to satisfy four criteria, namely diversity, revocability and non-invertibility is still a challenging task, especially performance degradation when template protection method is employed. In this paper, we propose a novel method to generate a revocable minutiae-based fingerprint template. The proposed method consists of feature extraction from fingerprint minutiae pairs, quantization, histogram binning, binarization and eventually binary bit-string generation. The contributions of our method are two fold: alignment-free and good performance. Various experiments on FVC2004 DB1 demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

  • The registration is an important part of image processing and pattern recognition. In this paper, the integral projection method is proposed as the first stage of the two-stage template matching. The computation time of the proposed method is one-tenth of that of the two-stage template matching technique with a sub-template. This method is applied to a noisy (real)image with a different bias level and gives a correct template position, while the two-stage template matching technique with a sub-template cannot detect correctly.

  • Template matching is one of the most often used techniques for machine vision applications to find a template of size M$\times$M or subimage in a scene image of size N$\times$N. Most template matching methods, however, require pixel operations between the template and the image under analysis resulting in high computational cost of O(M2N2). So in this thesis, we present a two stage template matching method. In the first stage, we use a novel low cost feature whose complexity is approaching O(N2) to select matching candidates. In the second stage, we use conventional template matching method to find out the exact matching point. We compare the result with other methods in terms of complexity, efficiency and performance. Proposed method was proved to have constant time complexity and to be quite invariant to noise.

  • In object tracking, the template matching methods have been developed and frequently used. It is fast enough, but not robust to an object with the variation of size and shape. In order to overcome the limitation of the template matching method, this paper proposes a template update technique. After finding an object position using the correlation-based adaptive predictive search, the proposed method selects blocks which contain object's boundary. It estimates the motion of boundary using block matching, and then updates template. We applied it to IR image sequences including an approaching object. From the experimental results, the proposed method showed successful performance to track object.

  • Seamless data integration in the CAx chain of the CAD/CAPP/CAM/CNC has been achieved to a high degree, but research concerning the transfer of data from conceptual sketches to a CAD system should be carried out further. This paper presents a method for reconstructing a 3D model from a freehand sketch. Sketch-based modeling research can be classified into gestural modeling methods and reconstructional modeling methods. This research involves the reconstructional modeling method. Here, Mitani's seminal work, designed for box-shaped 3D model using a predefined template, is improved by leveraging a relational template and specialized for automotive design. Matching between edge graphs of the relational template and the sketch is formulated and solved as the assignment problem using the feature vectors of the edges. Including the stroke preprocessing method required to generate an edge graph from a sketch, necessary procedures and relevant techniques for implementing the template-based modeling method are described. Examples from a working implementation are given.

  • The location template matching(LTM) method is a technique of identifying an impact location on a structure, and requires a certain measure of similarity between two time signals. In general, the correlation coefficient is widely used as the measure of similarity, while the group delay based method is recently proposed to improve the accuracy of the impact localization. Another possible measure is the frequency response assurance criterion(FRAC), though this has not been applied yet. In this paper, these three different measures of similarity are examined comparatively by using experimental data in order to understand the properties of these measures of similarity. The comparative study shows that the correlation coefficient and the FRAC give almost the same information while the group delay based method gives the shape oriented information that is best suitable for the location template matching method.

  • Template attack is a powerful side-channel analysis technique which can be performed by an attacker who has a test device that is identical to target device. Template attack is consisted of building template in profiling phase and matching the target device using template that were calculated in profiling phase. One methods to improve the success rate of template attack is to better estimate template which is consisted sample mean and sample covariance matrix of gaussian distribution in template profiling. However restriction of power trace in profiling phase led to poor template estimation. In this paper, we propose new method to select noisy power trace in profiling phase. By eliminating noisy power trace in profiling phase, we can construct more advanced mean and covariance matrix which relates to better performance in template attack. We proved that the proposed method is valid through experiments.

  • Post-synthesis is used to synthesize organic hybrid inorganic mesoporous sieves. In this method, the activity and structure of the base sieve are crucial to obtain the definable hybrid materials. The chemical and physical properties of the base can be largely changed either by the final step of its synthesizing processes, by template removal which is accomplished with the oxidative thermal decomposition (burning) method or by solvent extraction method. In this paper we compared two methods for the post-synthesis of organic hybrid MCM-48. When the template was extracted with HCl/alcohol mixture, the final product showed larger pore size, larger pore volume and better crystallinity compared to the case of the thermal decomposition. The reactivity of the surface silanol group of template free MCM-48 was also checked with an alkylsilylation reagent $CH_2=CHSi(OC_2H_5)_3$. Raman and $^{29}Si$ NMR spectra of MCM-48 in the test reaction indicated that more of the organic group was grafted to the surface of the sample after the template was removed with the solvent extraction method. Direct synthesis of vinyl-MCM-48 was also investigated and its characteristics were compared with the case of post-synthesis. From the results, it was suggested that the structure and chemical reactivity can be maintained in the solvent extraction method and that organic grafting after the solvent extraction can be a good candidate to synthesize a definable hybrid porous material.

  • In this paper, we propose the new emotion recognition method for intelligently recognizing the human's emotion using the template vector and neural network. In the proposed method, human's emotion is divided into four emotion (surprise, anger, happiness, sadness). The proposed method is based on the template vector extraction and the template location recognition by using the color difference. It is not easy to extract the skin color area correctly using the single color space. To solve this problem, we propose the extraction method using the various color spaces and using the each template vectors. And then we apply the back-propagation algorithm by using the template vectors among the feature points). Finally, we show the practical application possibility of the proposed method.
