Multivariate Rotation Design for Population Mean in Sampling on Successive Occasions

  • This article deals with the problem of estimation of the population mean in presence of multi-auxiliary information in two occasion rotation sampling. A multivariate exponential ratio type estimator has been proposed to estimate population mean at current (second) occasion using information on p-additional auxiliary variates which are positively correlated to study variates. The theoretical properties of the proposed estimator are investigated along with the discussion of optimum replacement strategies. The worthiness of proposed estimator has been justified by comparing it to well-known recent estimators that exist in the literature of rotation sampling. Theoretical results are justified through empirical investigations and a detailed study has been done by taking different choices of the correlation coefficients. A simulation study has been conducted to show the practicability of the proposed estimator.

Multi-mode Kernel Weight-based Object Tracking (멀티모드 커널 가중치 기반 객체 추적)

  • As the needs of real-time visual object tracking are increasing in various kinds of application fields such as surveillance, entertainment, etc., kernel-based mean-shift tracking has received more interests. One of major issues in kernel-based mean-shift tracking is to be robust under partial or full occlusion status. This paper presents a real-time mean-shift tracking which is robust in partial occlusion by applying multi-mode local kernel weight. In the proposed method, a kernel is divided into multiple sub-kernels and each sub-kernel has a kernel weight to be determined according to the location of the sub-kernel. The experimental results show that the proposed method is more stable than the previous methods with multi-mode kernels in partial occlusion circumstance.

New criteria to fix number of hidden neurons in multilayer perceptron networks for wind speed prediction

  • This paper proposes new criteria to fix hidden neuron in Multilayer Perceptron Networks for wind speed prediction in renewable energy systems. To fix hidden neurons, 101 various criteria are examined based on the estimated mean squared error. The results show that proposed approach performs better in terms of testing mean squared errors. The convergence analysis is performed for the various proposed criteria. Mean squared error is used as an indicator for fixing neuron in hidden layer. The proposed criteria find solution to fix hidden neuron in neural networks. This approach is effective, accurate with minimal error than other approaches. The significance of increasing the number of hidden neurons in multilayer perceptron network is also analyzed using these criteria. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulations were conducted on real time wind data. Simulations infer that with minimum mean squared error the proposed approach can be used for wind speed prediction in renewable energy systems.

  • A weighted version of the geometric mean of k ($\geq\;3$) positive invertible operators is given. For operators $A_1,{\ldots},A_k$ and for nonnegative numbers ${\alpha}_1,\ldots,{\alpha}_k$ such that $\sum_\limits_{i=1}^k\;\alpha_i=1$, we define weighted geometric means of two types, the first type by a direct construction through symmetrization procedure, and the second type by an indirect construction through the non-weighted (or uniformly weighted) geometric mean. Both of them reduce to $A_1^{\alpha_1}{\cdots}A_k^{{\alpha}_k}$ if $A_1,{\ldots},A_k$ commute with each other. The first type does not have the property of permutation invariance, but satisfies a weaker one with respect to permutation invariance. The second type has the property of permutation invariance. We also show a reverse inequality for the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality of the weighted version.

  • Machines and facilities are physically or chemically degenerated by continuous usage. One of the results of this degeneration is the process mean shift. By the result of degeneration, non-conforming products and malfunction of machine occur. Therefore a periodic preventive resetting the process is necessary. This type of preventive action is called 'preventive maintenance policy.' Preventive maintenance presupposes that the preventive (resetting the process) cost is smaller than the cost of failure caused by the malfunction of machine. The process mean shift problem is a field of preventive maintenance. This field deals the interrelationship between the quality cost and the process resetting cost before machine breaks down. Quality cost is the sum of the non-conforming item cost and quality loss cost. Quality loss cost is due to the deviation between the quality characteristics from the target value. Under the process mean shift, the quality cost is increasing continuously whereas the process resetting cost is constant value. The objective function is total costs per unit wear, the decision variables are the wear limit (resetting period) and the initial process mean. Comparing the previous studies, we set the process variance as an increasing concave function and set the quality loss function as Cpm+ simultaneously. In the Cpm+, loss function has different cost coefficients according to the direction of the quality characteristics from target value. A numerical example is presented.

  • In this paper we continue to investigate the Super Vertex Mean behaviour of all graphs up to order 5 and all regular graphs up to order 7. Let G(V,E) be a graph with p vertices and q edges. Let f be an injection from E to the set {1,2,3,${\cdots}$,p+q} that induces for each vertex v the label defined by the rule $f^v(v)=Round\;\left({\frac{{\Sigma}_{e{\in}E_v}\;f(e)}{d(v)}}\right)$, where $E_v$ denotes the set of edges in G that are incident at the vertex v, such that the set of all edge labels and the induced vertex labels is {1,2,3,${\cdots}$,p+q}. Such an injective function f is called a super vertex mean labeling of a graph G and G is called a Super Vertex Mean Graph.

  • Large eddy simulation(LES) of fully developed turbulent pipe flow has been performed to investigate the effect of Reynolds number on the flow field at $Re_{\tau}$=180, 395, 590 based on friction velocity and pipe radius. A dynamic subgrid-scale model for the turbulent subgrid-scale stresses was employed to close the governing equations. The mean flow properties, mean velocity profiles and turbulent intensities obtained from the present LES are in good agreement with the previous numerical and experimental results currently available. The Reynolds number effects were observed in the mean velocity profile, root-mean-square of velocity fluctuations, Reynolds shear stress and turbulent viscosity.

Accurate application of Gaussian process regression for cosmology

  • Gaussian process regression (GPR) is a powerful method used for model-independent analysis of cosmological observations. In GPR, it is important to decide an input mean function and hyperparameters that affect the reconstruction results. Depending on how the input mean function and hyperparameters are determined in the literature, I divide into four main applications for GPR and compare their results. In particular, a zero mean function is commonly used as an input mean function, which may be inappropriate for reconstructing cosmological observations such as the distance modulus. Using mock data based on Pantheon compilation of type Ia supernovae, I will point out the problem of using a zero input and suggest a new way to deal with the input mean function.

Mean Velocity of Globular Cluster Systems in M86 Virgo Giant Elliptical Galaxy and Massive Early-Type Galaxies

  • We present the spectroscopic study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the massive elliptical galaxy M86 in the Virgo galaxy cluster. Using the spectra obtained from the Multi-Object Spectroscopy (MOS) mode of Faint Object Camera and Spectrograph (FOCAS) on the Subaru Telescope, we measure the radial velocities for 56 GCs in M86. The mean velocity of the GCs is derived to be $<v_p>=-335{\pm}41km/s$, which is different from the velocity of the M86 nucleus ($<v_{gal}>=-224{\pm}5km/s$) within ${\sim}2.5{\sigma}$. The mean velocity ($<v_p>=-342{\pm}60km/s$) of 33 blue GCs in M86 is similar to that ($<v_p>=-314{\pm}71km/s$) of 23 red GCs. We also derive the mean velocities of the GC systems in other 16 nearby early-type galaxies (ETGs) from the radial velocity data in the literature. The mean value of the differences between the mean velocity of the GC systems in each galaxy and the nucleus velocity of their host galaxies, is almost zero except the M86 GC system. But the scatter of the differences in the blue GC system is larger than that in the red GC system. We will discuss these results in the context of GC formation in ETGs.
