  • The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of man's boots in the Joseon Dynasty and compared them with those of the Ming and Qing Dynasty to find the influential relationships between them. Boots in the Joseon Dynasty are divided into several kinds such as Heukgwejapihwa, Hheuksapihwa(黑斜皮靴), Heukpihwa(黑皮靴), Mokhwa(木靴), Hyeopgeumhwa(挾金靴), Suhwaja (水靴子), Jeonpihwa, Gijahwa(起子靴), and Baekhwa(白靴). In addition, Jeong(精: footwear) was put inside boots. They tend to be named according to their materials or ornaments on them. First, Jeong put inside the boots is regarded as footwear for the comfort of the feet or protection against cold. Mokhwa appears in literature around the 19th century. As shown by remains and paintings of those days, it is considered to have become the common name of boots as it underwent many changes. On the other hand, a book in the era of King Gojong includes pictures of Suhwaja. Compared to Hukpihwa in the same book. The topside seems to have been raised in order to make the wearer who put on a military uniform feel comfortable when walking, since the bottom piece is hard. Baekhwa is worn not only with funeral garments but also with Sibok(時服), one of official uniforms. Boots in the Joseon Dynasty had been made following the design of the Ming Dynasty since official uniforms were conferred upon King Gongmin in the late Koryo Dynasty. But turning the late Joseon Dynasty its detailed design changed little by little. The topside of the boots became more round, the entrance part became wider, height of the shoes became taller, and the bottom piece became parallel to the ground.

  • Objectives : In this paper, the outline and overall content of the Majinhwiseong, a specialized medical text on measles written by Lee Wonpung was introduced, along with its academic historical meaning. Methods : The entire Majinhwiseong was analyzed according to content and form. In terms of form, organization, construction, cited literature, etc., were studied, while in terms of content, diagnosis of disease pattern and treatment formulas were studied. Later, based on cited medical texts and the author's social position, the academic historical meaning of this book was discussed. Results : Through the Majinhwiseong, Lee Wonpung strengthened the credibility of the text by not only providing medical knowledge on measles but listing their sources and comparing and analyzing related contents. In the diagnosis part, Lee focused on the changes in symptom, shape, color, and pulse of measles, discussing in detail its differential diagnostic methods. In the treatment part, while listing numerous formulas suggested by Ming (明) masters, Lee did not leave out treatment experiences of Joseon physicians. Meanwhile, the Majinhwiseong is indicative of measles medicine in 18th century Joseon having been progressed in the private sector rather than the official, and how the results of private sector medicine were being absorbed into the official realm through the Uiyakdongcham (議藥同參) system. Conclusions : The Majinhwiseong is a practical treatment manual written by clinician Lee Wonpung to deal measles which was widely spread at the time. The author organized existing medical knowledge on measles for clinicians while reflecting outcomes and medical situation of Joseon physicians in this book. Based on these findings, we could verify that medicine in 18th century Joseon had been progressing actively around the private medical sector.

Daily commodities were collected and sorted properly so as to be readily utilized as experimental instruments in science classes. 164 students of elementary school 5th grade in Taejon City were selected for the study and they were evenly divided into two different groups, one for experiment and the other for comparation respectively. In every science classes throughout the school semester, the experimental group was supplied with daily commodities in addition to conventional instruments while the controlled group for comparation was supplied only with conventional instruments. Student's responses to the questionnaire were treated by statistical analysis and for that purpose the computer programme of SPSS WIN(6.0) was employed. The results of the study are as follows; 1. There is no expressive disparity appeared in the increments of scientific knowledge between experimental and controlled (comparing) groups. 2. The disparity of increments in inquiring ability between experimental and controlled groups is fairly expressive (P<0.05). The experimental group with daily commodities in science classes attained 5% more in increment of inquiring ability than the controlled group. 3. The disparity of the changes in student's attitudes toward science between two groups is remarkable (P<0.001). Student's attitude toward science was much more improved in experimental group than controlled group. The difference in improvement rate between two groups is 8%. The facts mentioned above make it evident that in elementary school science course daily commodities are very effective to enhance student's positiveness as far as both inquiring ability and attitude toward science are concerned. In this respect, a lot of efforts are expected to be made in searching and supplying further the proper daily commodities for elementary science courses. In addition, it is also called for that the examples of replacing conventional instruments with daily commodities will be introduced in future editions of elementary school science book and its guide book if possible.

  • Objectives : Qianjinyifang Shanghan is an important versions of Shanghanlun, but it was never introduced widely, and studies on its were not done a lot. Thus, the author seeks to study this book in order to find its special features, its relationship with other versions of Shanghanlun, and its status in the process of the transmission of Shanghanlun. Methods : Dissertations on Qianjinyifang Shanghan and dissertations that compare Yuhanben and Songben were studied. Sentences were numbered based on Qianjinyifang Shanghan, Tangbenshanghanlunjiaozhu to compare with other versions of Shanghanlun. Results : Sunsimiao brought the changes of "以法方類證, 方證同條 比類相附" in Shanghanlun. It organized Taiyangbing chapters according to their decoction pattern, and made Taiyangbing chapter name as "太陽病用${\cdots}$湯法". Chì shi ye was placed in front of Taiyangbìngyongguizhitangfa. Jueyinbing and Liouhuibing were combined to one that were seperated in Yuhanben. Shanghanyiji titlel was put in front of Yijipian to distinguish clearly from Sanyinsanyangpian. Sanyinsanyangpian and Yijipian contains many sentences that are missing in Songben. Conclusions : Qianjinyifang Shanghan is one of the major Shanghanluns that were saved by Jiaozhengyishuju I Northern Song Period, and it was put together as an independent book after the Ming and Qing dynasties. It plays an important role in the process of the transmission of Shanghanlun in 800 years, through 3C, 7C, and 11C. Moreover, when we compare the three books of Qianjinyifang Shanghan, Yuhanben, and Songben's Sanyinsanyangpian and Yijipian's sentences, we could know that they began from a common original text, but they became branched, and Qianjinyifang Shanghan has a closer relationship with Yuhanben. Sanyinsanyangpian and Yijipian sentences can serve to supplement what is missing in today's Songben.

As it is substituted to the human body, Five elements can be compared to the meridian system, Sasang can be compared to Eight extra meridians, and Kugung can be compared to Five su point Sasangjeok-Ohaengkoan. In addition, if Simpo and Samcho are compared to Cheon Ji In Samjae(天地人三才) of Trigrams, then 13 cure points can be deducted. If 13 cure points are substituted to Chilyojeongsa(七曜政事) and Moderation as another concept of Kugung, then all diseases can be cured regardless of the physical constitution and name of a disease.

  • About the YinYang, Wang Bing used the twelve shoshickgue to explain the rise and decline of the twelve months in "Essential Questions GinYoGyungJongRon" and "Essential Questions Mekhae". And he used the principal of "when an object goes to extremes it reverses" to explain "shao fire", "invigorating fire" which shows an example of a good application of the theory of yinyang in "the Book of Changes" to "The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon". Explanation of the five phases usually follows the explanation of the "Sangsu Hongbum" but when arranging the five live stocks to the five phases, he refered to the "SulGueJun" and made annotations.
