  • This paper presents the design and implementation of virtual aquarium by generating 3D models of fishes that are colored by viewers in an aim to create interaction among viewers and aquarium. The virtual aquarium system is composed of multiple texture extraction modules, a single interface module and a single display module. The texture extraction module recognize the QR code on the canvas to get information of the predefined mapping table and then extract the texture data for the corresponding 3D model. The scanned image is segmented and warp transformed onto the texture image by using the mapping information. The extracted texture is transferred to the interface module to save on the server computer and the interface module sends the fish code and texture information to the display module. The display module generates a fish on the virtual aquarium by using predefined 3D model with the transmitted texture. The fishes on the virtual aquarium have three different swimming methods: self-swimming, autonomous swimming, and leader-following swimming. The three different swimming methods are discussed in this paper. The future study will be the implementation of virtual aquarium based on storytelling to further increase interactions with the viewer.

  • We synthesize a texture with different structures at different scales. Our technique is based on deterministic parallel synthesis allowing real-time processing on a GPU. A new coordinate transformation operator is used to construct a synthesized coordinate map based on different exemplars at different scales. The runtime overhead is minimal because this operator can be precalculated as a small lookup table. Our technique is effective for upsampling texture-rich images, because the result preserves texture detail well. In addition, a user can design a texture by coloring a low-resolution control image. This design tool can also be used for the interactive synthesis of terrain in the style of a particular exemplar, using the familiar 'raise and lower' airbrush to specify elevation.

  • Texture mapping is the process of covering 3D models with texture images in order to increase the visual realism of the models. For proper mapping the coordinates of texture images need to coincide with those of the 3D models. When projective images from the camera are used as texture images, the texture image coordinates are defined by a camera calibration method. The texture image coordinates are determined by the relation between the coordinate systems of the camera image and the 3D object. With the projective camera images, the distortion effect caused by the camera lenses should be compensated in order to get accurate texture coordinates. The distortion effect problem has been dealt with iterative methods, where the camera calibration coefficients are computed first without considering the distortion effect and then modified properly. The methods not only cause to change the position of the camera perspective line in the image plane, but also require more control points. In this paper, a new iterative method is suggested for reducing the error by fixing the principal points in the image plane. The method considers the image distortion effect independently and fixes the values of correction coefficients, with which the distortion coefficients can be computed with fewer control points. It is shown that the camera distortion effects are compensated with fewer numbers of control points than the previous methods and the projective texture mapping results in more realistic image.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the structural properties, the color characteristics and the texture of sight and touch on the tactile preferences for the black fabrics. Male and female university students were asked to evaluate the texture of sight and touch and tactile preference to the nine different black fabrics which were selected on the basis of the previous research results. Data were analyzed by using frequency analysis, mean, factor analysis, t-test, F-test, correlation and regression analysis. The texture of sight and touch for black fabrics was classified into four factors: smoothness, bulkiness, extensibility, firmness. This texture of sight and touch factors showed a significant correlative relationship to the structural properties and color characteristics of the black fabrics. There were significant differences according to black fabrics on the point of texture of sight and touch. The velvet was evaluated the most smooth fabric, while the velvet and fake leather were evaluated the most bulky fabrics. Also, the jersey and lace fabrics were evaluated the most extensible fabrics, while the melton was evaluated as the most firm fabrics. There were significant correlative relationships not only between the structural properties and the texture of sight and touch but also between the color characteristics and the texture for black fabrics. Also, among the structural properties, the color characteristics and the texture of sight and touch of black fabrics, major variable factor of influencing on the tactile preference was turned out to be the texture of sight and touch.

  • The Optimal filter yielding optimal texture feature separation is a most effective technique for extracting the texture objects from multiple textures images. But, most optimal filter design approaches are restricted to the issue of supervised problems. No full-unsupervised method is based on the recognition of texture objects in image. We propose a novel approach that uses unsupervised learning schemes for efficient texture image analysis, and the band-pass feature of Gabor-filter is used for the optimal filter design. In our approach, the self-organizing neural network for multiple texture image identification is based on block-based clustering. The optimal frequency of Gabor-filter is turned to the optimal frequency of the distinct texture in frequency domain by analyzing the spatial frequency. In order to show the performance of the designed filters, after we have attempted to build a various texture images. The texture objects extraction is achieved by using the designed Gabor-filter. Our experimental results show that the performance of the system is very successful.

  • The relationship between the product design and product image can be defined using human sensibility. If there is a way to grasp the product value or product design that people want most, it could be possible to make and sell user-oriented products. In human sensibility ergonomics, the categories of design factor can be broken into shape and color of the design. Although, the color is the major factor of the design, however, texture were is also an important factor for the shape. In this study, wall-papers that have various shapes of texture were used for the experiment. The purpose of this study was to conduct a sensibility estimation experiment for the product image, and to estimate the parameters of various textures for creating new textures that could be more suitable for human sensibility.

  • To utilize sea tangle single cell detritus (SCD) as food additive, SCD noodle was developed using mixture model. Flour improved, whereas water decreased texture of SCD noodles. Texture of SCD noodle decreased initially and then increased as SCD content increased. Flour and SCD increased, whereas water decreased $L^*$ and $b^*$ values of dried and cooked noodles. Flour decreased $a^*$ values of dried and cooked noodles, while SCD increased $a^*$ value of cooked noodle. Response constraint coefficient showed SCD influence on texture, and $L^*$ and $b^*$ values of dried and cooked noodles was higher than those of flour and water, whereas water influence on $a^*$ value was higher than those of flour and SCD. Texture and color values fitted nonlinear model with interaction terms for flour-water, flour-SCD, and water-SCD. Optimum mixing ratio value of flour : water : SCD was 63.3 : 31.0 : 3.7%. Sensory evaluation value of SCD noodles was lower than those of industrial and electrolyzed SCD noodles.

  • Knit is classified into two such as basic texture and applied one according to knitting principle, and the basic texture of weft knitting consists of single knit. rib knit, purl knit and interlock knit. The basic texture of warp knitting consists of double knit texture, double code knit texture and double vandyke knit texture. Fourteen costumes were produced with eighteen (18) different types and twenty four (24) raw materials, and we were trying to show a wide range of costumes produced with knitting by making two different brands at random and making different designs depending on four seasons. Knitting technique is very important element in that it allows special surface effectiveness and decides the characteristic of knitting materials. Knit designer plays very important roles such as selection of raw thread, deciding knitting technique and type of knitting machine in designing the knit. Therefore, the knit designer requires the ability to utilize the function of knitting machine to the maximum, the effort to acquire the variety of knitting technique, develop the new knitting technique and for the improvement of knitting design.
