The Performance of Supply Chain Management in Textile Fashion Business

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate SCM performance of textile fashion business in a competitive market environment. For the methodology of this study, the questionnaire was developed based upon the literature. 230 questionnaires were distributed to the experts who operate SCM in textile fashion firms. The returned usable 149 were analyzed by SPSS10.0 with multiple regression analysis and Cronbach's Alpha for internal consistency and reliability. The results of this study were as follows: The SCM performance of the textile fashion firms was affected by information system, business environment, and partnership in a descending order. Analyzing on the business environment, CEOs' concern about incorporating SCM and the degree of assistance from government and textile fashion federation impacted the performance of SCM in a descending order. For information system, standardized computerization, information sharing, and computerization with infrastructure on intra/inter business impacted the SCM performance of the firms in a descending order. For partnership, strategic alliance, openness about corporate culture, and credibility of partnership impacted the SCM performance of the firms in a descending order.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how different priorities were among entrepreneurial components influencing upon performance of firm regarding dynamics of textile fashion industry. For research method, 200 questionnaires were distributed to professionals such as entrepreneurs, and managers of textile fashion business. The returned 122 questionnaires were analyzed by regression analysis with SPSS 10.0. The results of this study were as follows: There were significant differences that the most influential component was fund among entrepreneurial components affecting performance of firm, and business idea, and entrepreneur's characteristics in a descending order. But when considering dynamics of textile fashion industry, the most influential component was business idea, and entrepreneur's characteristics, and fund in a descending order.

The Effects of Market Orientation and Learning Orientation on Business Performance in the Textile Firms: Focusing on Moderating Effect of Company Innovativeness (섬유업체의 시장지향성과 학습지향성이 사업성과에 미치는 영향: 기업 혁신성에 따른 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the effects of market orientation and learning orientation of textile firms on business performance and to confirm the moderating effect of company innovativeness on these relationships. Data collected from 167 textile firms through survey were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-tests, and multiple causal modeling using AMOS 6.0. In results, the higher innovativeness, the stronger effect of market orientation on business performance. Also, the lower innovativeness, the stronger effect of learning orientation on business performance. Study results may suggest the needs of different focus of organization culture according to company characteristics in order to improve business performance.

  • Nowadays, firms face the challenge of how to balance between the environmental request and business profit under the circumstances of being eco-friendly and sustainable. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of business environmental factors on the 4p mix of an eco-friendly textile in the textile fashion firms. This research was conducted by a questionnaire method, in which the questionnaires were distributed to the textile fashion firms. Of the returned questionnaires, one hundred of them were selected to be included in the analysis by developing descriptive statistics, factor analysis, cronbach's alpha, and regression analysis using SPSS18.0. The results of this study were as follows: There were significant effects of the firms' environmental management, organizational structure, and CEOs' environmental sensitivity in descending order of the business internal factors on the textile fashion firms' eco-friendly textile product. The factors of the firms' environmental management, organizational structure(internal factors), and legal regulation(external factor), in descending order, significantly affected the promotion of the eco-friendly textile. The factor of firms' environmental management (internal factor) significantly affected the distribution of the eco-friendly textile. The factors of CEOs' environmental sensitivity(internal factor), legal regulation(external factor), and firms' environmental management(internal factor), in descending order, significantly affected the price of the eco-friendly textile.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze strategic alliances in fashion business in Korea and to describe the trends of alliances. Fashion business was divided into textile manufacturers, apparel manufacturers, retailers, and service businesses. Alliance cases were collected from articles in various sources of periodicals searched from data bases. A total of 247 alliance cases in fashion business from January 2000 to August 2003 were analyzed. Cases were categorized into horizontal alliances among competitors in the same distribution channel and vertical alliances with partners in a different channel within the fashion business and into alliances with partners outside the fashion business. The study described the patterns of each of the vertical and horizontal alliances within and between textile manufacturers, apparel manufacturers. and retailers as well as the alliances with service businesses outside the fashion business.

  • To survive competitive global market, textile and fashion business incorporated Supply Chain Management strategy to make product and information flows fast and correct. Especially textile and fashion industry involves many complicated channels from up stream, middle stream, to down stream for delivering their production. Evaluating SCM performance is very critical to make better business profit model. Representative Scor model and BSC method are well fitted into textile and fashion business because of distributional complexity, non-financial factors to be considered, and innovative product characteristics. But there was little study to compare these two methods for textile and fashion business. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the Scor model and BSC method based upon review of literatures. The results of this study were as follows: Scor model had some strengths which were availability to apply for various industries due to standardized process, operation process emphasized, various customizable factors to compose for the company, and premise on SCM strategic execution. BSC method had some strengths which were the balance including financial and non-financial factors, qualitative analysis, and considering the goal and vision to convey organically from top to bottom of organization. The main differences between them were different scope to deal with performance estimating index from qualitative to quantitative analysis, the scope of human resources to manage, and possibility of performance comparison among companies.

  • SCM system is required inter-industrial cooperation as well as inter-organizational cooperation. It means not only standardization of inter-organization but also standardization of inter-industry. SCM makes possible one circulation from fiber to retail industry in the respects of information and product flows. QR is the SCM of textile apparel industry, which satisfy customer need with least cost and maximum profit. Customer-oriented supply chain system focused on information sharing, cost reduction, inventory control, lead time reduction, quick response on customer demand. How we can measure the performance of successful SCM is issued on the approach of Balanced Scorecard which evaluates 4 perspectives such as customer perspective, internal business perspective, financial perspective, and innovation and learning perspective. This can project the blueprint of textile fashion business to right direction with vision.

  • Recently, interest in eco-friendliness and sustainability has been increasing due to the rapid progress of fast fashion and the crisis of sudden environmental changes after COVID-19. This study aims to develop upcycling textiles and express product design using digital 3D to realize a sustainable fashion industry and present environmental aspects, diversity, creativity, and new directions in fashion industry design. The research method is to develop and pattern upcycling textile designs by applying weaving techniques with waste materials. It uses the developed upcycling textile design in digital 3D to incorporate it into clothing fashion and shows the utility and practicality of upcycling textile design. As a result of the study, the appearance is realistic when outputting DTP of upcycling textile design. It endures without loosening or tearing, making it a durable and creatively expressive fashion item. Texpro 3D mapping reduces the time and cost of making actual sample fabric. Upcycling textile design and 3D CLO virtual clothing are combined to produce actual clothing samples, resulting in zero waste reduction due to cutting and sewing. This study anticipates actively and continuously advancing the development of upcycling textile design and digital 3D in terms of ethics and the environment.

  • With globalization and competitive market environment, companies realize how marketing channels are important in order to survive and succeed the business. The importance of information management among channels is getting increased, and is needed for SCM. Nevertheless having hard situation to implement SCM, SCM for textile fashion industry engaged in small business mostly is the way to break through the difficulty on so many channels to go through from fiber to retail. Therefore, the purpose of this case study to L firm by using questionnaire based interviewing method was to investigate how textile fashion small business can implement the SCM with their own differentiated strategy differed from a large corporation. L firm conducted SCM-ISN (Information Service Network) under the restructuring project. So they could use electronic bidding system via internet and have information sharing with their partners such as retailers. Therefore, they could expand market share to Seoul and reduce inventory and manage their customer more effectively than before.

Are Business Cycles in the Fashion Industry Affected by the News? -An ARIMAX Time Series Correlation Analysis between the KOSPI Index for Textile & Wearing Apparel and Media Agendas- (패션산업의 경기변동은 뉴스의 영향을 받는가? -섬유의복 KOSPI와 미디어 의제의 ARIMAX 시계열 상관관계 분석-)

  • The growth of digital news media and the stock price index has resulted in economic fluctuations in the fashion industry. This study examines the impact of fashion industry news and macroeconomic changes on the Textile & Wearing Apparel KOSPI over the past five years. An auto-regressive integrated moving average exogenous time series model was conducted using the fashion industry stock market index, the news topic index, and macro-economic indicators. The results indicated the topics of "Cosmetic business expansion" and "Digital innovation" impacted the Textile & Wearing Apparel KOSPI after one week, and the topics of "Pop-up store," "Entry into the Chinese fashion market," and "Fashion week and trade show" affected it after two weeks. Moreover, the topics of "Cosmetic business expansion" and "Entry into the Chinese fashion market" were statistically significant in the macroeconomic environment. Regarding the effect relation of Textile & Wearing Apparel KOSPI, "Cosmetic business expansion," "Entry into the Chinese fashion market," and consumer price fluctuation showed negative effects, while the private consumption change rate, producer price fluctuation, and unemployment change rate had positive effects. This study analyzes the impact of media framing on fashion industry business cycles and provides practical insights into managing stock market risk for fashion companies.
