An incongruity is underlined about the analysis of Timoshenko beams subjected to concentrated loads modelled through the use of generalized functions. While for Euler-Bernoulli beams this modeling always leads to effective results, on the contrary, the contemporary assumptions of concentrated external moment, interpreted as a generalized function (doublet), and of shear deformation determine inconsistent discontinuities in the deflection laws. A physical/theoretical explanation of this not-neglecting incongruity is given in the text.

This essay exams the issues of aesthetic elements that come up when Korean novels get translated into Chinese language. The short story collection titled "An old well" written by Jeong Heui Oh in both languages are compared and analyzed by focusing on the mode of narrations. There are various narrative modes in "An old well". Each narrative mode properly functions for aesthetic effects and drawing meanings. In short, we can find a way to grasp its leitmotif the writer wants to indicate only when we carefully interpret the narrative modes in the original text. However, the narrative modes in Korean text have been simplified by changing its modes into direct narrative in Chinese-translated text. Thus the aesthetic effects in the original text have been spoiled and the Chinese text fails to deliver its meaning involved in the original narrative mode. Translation of novel invites consideration on both of its form and content on account of the text's uniqueness. Accordingly, a close examination and study of the original text should be completed beforehand.

Nowadays, due to the popularization of mobile phone, the functions and using manners of mobile phone have been varied. According to Korea National Statistical Office, the numbers of domestic mobile phone user were 30 million at the end of March 2002. A survey was conducted to investigate the various using manners of mobile phone, especially the young ones from 15 to 28 years old. Two hundred and sixty people participated in this study. According to the result of this study, text messaging was one of the major functions of the mobile phone for the young people. Also, continuous and repetitive use of small key pad of mobile phone for text messaging could cause the repetitive strain injury on hand, especially fingers.

The continuous analysis, such as smoothness and uniform convergence, for polynomials and polynomial-like functions using differential operators have been studied considerably, parallel to the study of discrete analysis for these functions, using difference operators. In this work, for the difference operator ${\nabla}_h$ with size h > 0, we verify that for an integer $m{\geq}0$ and a strictly decreasing sequence $h_n$ converging to zero, a continuous function f(x) satisfying $${\nabla}_{h_n}^{m+1}f(kh_n)=0,\text{ for every }n{\geq}1\text{ and }k{\in}{\mathbb{Z}}$$, turns to be a polynomial of degree ${\leq}m$. The proof used the polynomial convergence, and additionally, we investigated several conditions on convergence to polynomials.

The purpose of this study is to analyze communication between school and parents using the "letters to the parents", in order to examine possible areas of improvement for enhancing educational opportunities and school life adjustment for children from multi-cultural families. The letters to the parents used in elementary schools were analysed through genre analysis specifically for this study. At first, the Korean language textbooks for married female immigrants were investigated to see how many letters to parents were included in them. Second, letters to parents were collected to research their structure and content. They were categorized by the text type according to functions and speech acts. It is expected that the results of this study will be helpful for the Korean language education of married female immigrants.

Let a, b, q be integers with q > 0. The homogeneous Dedekind sum is dened by $$\Large S(a,b,q)={\sum_{r=1}^{q}}\(\({\frac{ar}{q}}\)\)\(\({\frac{br}{q}}\)\)$$, where $$\Large ((x))=\{x-[x]-{\frac{1}{2}},\text{ if x is not an integer},\\0,\hspace{75}\text{ if x is an integer.}$$ In this paper we study the mean value of S(a, b, q) by using mean value theorems of Dirichlet L-functions, and give some asymptotic formula.
