  • The stone sculptures in Gyeongbokgung Royal Palace are mainly composed of granite (884 sculptures, 96.7%) and marble (25 sculptures, 2.7%) that originated in several different quarries. Main deterioration forms are crack (24%), break-out (21%), exfoliation (36%), granular disintegration (9%) and blackening (20%). Crack and break-out are dominant contributors to high physical deterioration degree, and blackening is major weathering form of intensive discoloration. The Gyeonghoeru, Geunjeongjeon and Pumgyeseok areas require urgent and high conservation maintenance with short-term periodic monitoring since proportions of 3-grade deterioration were calculated higher than others as 55% for Gyeonghoeru, 29% for Geunjeongjeon, 11% for Pumgyeseok area. The Pumgyeseok (officials' rank stone), especially, needs intervention for protective facility due to its material vulnerability to weathering in outdoor environment.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to evaluate 7-year survival rate of implants placed without bone graft in posterior maxilla and compare the survival rate by the age and gender of patient, length and diameter of implant, region of implant placement, bicortical engagement of fixture, and connection of prosthesis. Material and methods : 78 patients (170 implants) who visited our institution from 2002 to 2007 and were followed up with panoramic view and medical records. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Log Rank (Mantel-Cox) test were used. Results and conclusions : A 7-year cumulative survival rate for implants placed in posterior maxilla without sinus graft was 95.3%. The survival rate in men was 91.8%, significantly lower than 98.8% in woman.(p<0.05). However, the survival rate by the length of the implants did not show any significant differences.(p>0.05), while the wide platform implant resulted in 85% survival rate which was statistically lower than 98.5% in regular platform. The posterior maxillary implants engaged bicortically showed 97.6% of 7-year Survival rate, comparing 88.6% in not engaged implants. The survival rate of the single implant was 91.2%, while 98.5% in splinted prosthesis. Therefore, the bicortical engagement of the fixtures and splinted prosthesis may be recommended to get a long-term survival rate in posterior maxilla.

  • Background: Backward walking exercise may offer some unique and potentially beneficial differences compared with forward walking exercise. There is still a lack of research on backward walking exercises and forward head posture. Objects: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of backward walking exercise on college students forward head posture in their 20s. Methods: Twenty-one subjects participated in the experiment. The subjects were those with a craniovertebral angle (CVA) of 55 degrees or less who understood the purpose and method of this study and voluntarily agreed. A camera capable of taking pictures of the lateral plane was installed at a distance of 1.5 meters before exercising. Pictures were taken before walking backward, and after walking for 15 minutes on the treadmill, the images were taken in the same way. The composition of the backward walking exercise was walking at a rate of 1.0 for 5 minutes, and the remaining 10 minutes were walking at a rate of 1.5. Wilcoxon signed rank test was used to compare CVA and craniorotational angle (CRA) before and after exercise. Results: As a result of this study, there was a significant difference in CVA before and after exercise (p < 0.05). There was a significant difference in CRA before and after exercise (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The backward walking exercise and verbal command seems to have positively influenced the changes in CVA and CRA among college students in their 20s. It seems that studies to confirm balance or muscle activity as well as changes in forward head posture through the long-term intervention of the backward walking exercise should be conducted.

  • Most of hypertext retrieval models consider documents as independent entities. They ignore relationships between documents of link semantics. in an information retrieval system for hypertext documents, retrieval effectiveness can be improved when ling information is used. Previous link-based hypertext retrieval models ignore link information while indexing. They utilize link information to re-rank the retrieval results. Therefore they are limited that only the documents is result-set utilize link information. This paper utilizes link information when indexing. We present how to use term weighting and inLinks weighting for ranking the relevant documents. Experimental results show that recall and precision evaluation according to the link semantics and the comparison with previously link_based hypertext retrieval model.

  • PURPOSE. This study examined the effects of the abutment types and dynamic loading on the stability of implant prostheses with three types of implant abutments prepared using different fabrication methods by measuring removal torque both before and after dynamic loading. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three groups of abutments were produced using different types of fabrication methods; stock abutment, gold cast abutment, and CAD/CAM custom abutment. A customized jig was fabricated to apply the load at $30^{\circ}$ to the long axis. The implant fixtures were fixed to the jig, and connected to the abutments with a 30 Ncm tightening torque. A sine curved dynamic load was applied for $10^5$ cycles between 25 and 250 N at 14 Hz. Removal torque before loading and after loading were evaluated. The SPSS was used for statistical analysis of the results. A Kruskal-Wallis test was performed to compare screw loosening between the abutment systems. A Wilcoxon signed-rank test was performed to compare screw loosening between before and after loading in each group (${\alpha}$=0.05). RESULTS. Removal torque value before loading and after loading was the highest in stock abutment, which was then followed by gold cast abutment and CAD/CAM custom abutment, but there were no significant differences. CONCLUSION. The abutment types did not have a significant influence on short term screw loosening. On the other hand, after $10^5$ cycles dynamic loading, CAD/CAM custom abutment affected the initial screw loosening, but stock abutment and gold cast abutment did not.

  • The main idea of this paper is to combine position information in sentence and query type classification to make the documents ranking to query more accessible. First, the use of conceptual graphs for the representation of document contents In information retrieval is discussed. The method is based on well-known strategies of text comparison, such as Dice Coefficient, with position-based weighted term. Second, we introduce a method for learning query type classification that improves the ability to retrieve answers to questions from Question Answering system. Proposed methods employ naive bayes classification in machine learning fields. And, we used a collection of approximately 30,000 question-answer pairs for training, obtained from Frequently Asked Question(FAQ) files on various subjects. The evaluation on a set of queries from international TREC-9 question answering track shows that the method with machine learning outperforms the underline other systems in TREC-9 (0.29 for mean reciprocal rank and 55.1% for precision).

  • The medical thesaurus, MeSH (Medical Subject Heading), has been used as a controlled vocabulary thesaurus for English medical paper indexing for a long time. In this paper, we propose an automatic cross language keyword assignment method, which assigns English MeSH index terms to the abstract of a Korean medical paper. We compare the performance with the indexing performance of human indexers and the authors. The procedure of index term assignment is that first extracting Korean MeSH terms from text, changing these terms into the corresponding English MeSH terms, and calculating the importance of the terms to find the highest rank terms as the keywords. For the process, an effective method to solve spacing variants problem is proposed. Experiment showed that the method solved the spacing variant problem and reduced the thesaurus space by about 42%. And the experiment also showed that the performance of automatic keyword assignment is much less than that of human indexers but is as good as that of authors.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the cumulative survival rate of dental implants installed with guided bone regeneration (GBR), and also elucidate the factors related with the survival of dental implants. Material and Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 148 dental implants installed in 76 patients by one specialist (Y.K.) at the Department of Periodontology and Implant Center, Seoul National University Dental Hospital from 2001 to 2010. The cumulative survival rates were obtained by the Kaplan-Meier method. The correlations between various factors and dental implant survival were analyzed by using the log-rank test and Cox proportional hazards model. Results: Among 148 dental implants installed in 76 patients, 8 implants in 7 patients were lost and the cumulative survival rates up to 5-years and 10-years were 97% and 89%, respectively. Gender, smoking status and location of implant were significantly associated with the cumulative survival rate of implants (p < 0.05). Age, history of hypertension and diabetes were not significantly associated with the cumulative survival rate of implants (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The dental implants installed with guided bone regeneration is predictable technique according to the results of cumulative survival rate over 10 years.

  • Purpose: Achilles tendon rupture is a frequently encountered ankle pathology associated with a substantial burden of intense pain and functional deficits. Chronic Achilles tendon ruptures with considerable defects pose intricate repair challenges that are often marred by complications such as re-rupture and persistent pain. Various treatment methods, including allograft transplantation, have been proposed, but the literature on this technique is limited. In this study, we propose a surgical approach utilizing allotendon transplantation and a calcaneal tunneling technique and provide clinical evaluation details. Materials and Methods: Fifteen patients with chronic Achilles tendon ruptures treated with allotendon between 2020 and 2022 were included in the study. Patients were evaluated at 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores and Achilles Tendon Total Rupture Scores (ATRSs). Complications were assessed postoperatively. Results: The average VAS score was 7 before surgery, 7.3 immediately after surgery, and 4.3 at 1 month, 2.5 at 3 months, and 1.3 at 6 months after surgery. Because the sample was limited to 15 individuals and distributions were non-normal, the analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Wilcoxon's signed-rank test, and statistical significance was accepted for p-values<0.05. Results showed a significant improvement in ATRS and VAS scores versus preoperative and immediate postoperative values. VAS scores showed a decreasing trend after surgery, whereas average ATRS scores increased from 14 before surgery, 33.8 at 1 month, 82.7 at 3 months, and 93.9 at 6 months. Conclusion: This study suggests that allograft transplantation using the described calcaneal tunnel technique provides an effective treatment for chronic Achilles tendon ruptures. However, extensive research and long-term clinical trials are required to validate and better understand the technique's efficacy.

  • Purpose: This study prospectively evaluated the outcome of arthroscopic transtendinous repair as a treatment for partial articular side tears of the rotator cuff. Materials and Methods: Fifteen patients with symptomatic, partial articular side tears of the rotator cuff underwent modified transtendinous repair. The patient's mean age was 52.5 years and the mean duration of symptoms was 33.7 weeks. The visual analogue scale (VAS), the ASES score, the active ROM of the shoulder and the patient's satisfaction were evaluated both preoperatively and postoperatively. The clinical results were analyzed using the Wilcoxon's signed rank test. Results: The mean VAS was $6.6\pm1.1$ before treatment and $0.4\pm0.6$ at 6 month, and the ASES scores for all the patients were significantly better over the six-month period of follow-up (p<0.05). The mean active ROM in abduction was $94.3\pm22.3$ before treatment, $108.7\pm16.3$ at 1 month (p=0.0041) and $164.3\pm5.3$ at six months (p=0.0006). In flexion, it was $105.0\pm23.8$ before treatment, $119.0\pm17.4$ at 1 month(p=0.0075) and $174.3\pm5.3$ at six months (p=0.0006). At the final follow-up, 94% of patients were satisfied or very satisfied after operation. Conclusion: We experienced satisfactory clinical results after a short-term follow-up of arthroscopic transtendinous repair, and we believed this to be an effective procedure for patients with partial articular side tears of the rotator cuff.
