단기통 2사이클 압축점화기관의 시뮬레이션 (Simulation of the single-cylinder 2-stroke cycle compression ignition engine)

  • The simulation of power cycle and unsteady gas exchange processes in the inlet and exhaust systems of the single-cylinder 2-stroke cycle compression ignition engine was studied in this paper. In power cycle process, the single-zone model proposed by Whitehouse and Way was used, and the convective and radiative heat transfer from cylinder contents to surroundings was considered. To solve the equations for gas exchange process, the generalized method of characteristics including area change, friction, heat transfer and entropy gradients was used. Also with the path line calculation, the entropy change along the path line and the variation of specific heat due to the change of temperature and the composition of cylinder gas were considered. As a result of the simulation, the change of pressure and temperature in the cylinder against the crank angle, the rate of net heat release, and the change of properties at each point in the inlet and exhaust pipe against the crank angle were obtained. The engine performances under various operating conditions were also calculated.

Surface and flexoelectricity effects on size-dependent thermal stability analysis of smart piezoelectric nanoplates

  • Thermal buckling of nonlocal flexoelectric nanoplates incorporating surface effects is analyzed for the first time. Coupling of strain gradients and electrical polarizations is introduced by flexoelectricity. It is assumed that flexoelectric nanoplate is subjected to uniform and linear temperature distributions. Long range interaction between atoms of nanoplate is modeled via nonlocal elasticity theory. The residual surface stresses which are usually neglected in modeling of flexoelectric nanoplates are incorporated into nonlocal elasticity to provide better understanding of the physic of problem. A Galerkin-based approach is implemented to solve the governing equations derived from Hamilton's principle are solved. The verification of obtained results is performed by comparing buckling loads of flexoelectric nanoplate with previous data. It is shown that buckling loads of flexoelectric nanoplate are significantly affected by thermal loading type, temperature change, nonlocal parameter, surface effect, plate thickness and boundary conditions.

구배값을 이용한 스테레오 열감지 센서 시스템 (Gradient based Stereo Temperature Sensor System)

  • Some animals have special sensing functions in order to find foods, home and mates. Instead of passively sensing, they discharge signals and then extract necessary information from the response. More importantly, they utilize the gradients of the sensed signal in order to find the destination or objects. In this paper this special strategy is formulated mathematically, i.e., the perturbation and the correlation based gradient estimation is developed. A stereo sensor system using temperature sensors mounted on motors is developed for verification. The proposed method can estimate the gradient of the measured value accurately. Using this method, the direction in the maximum measured value can be estimated accurately, and the position of the heat source can be estimated from the intersection of the directions estimated from both sensors.

  • We review the factors which regulate the depth and composition of the human airway surface liquid (ASL). These include secretion from airway submucosal glands, ion and fluid transport across the surface epithelium, goblet cell discharge, surface tension and transepithelial gradients in osmotic and hydrostatic pressure. We describe recent experiments in which we have used low temperature scanning electron microscopy of rapidly frozen specimens to detect changes in depth of ASL in response to submucosal gland stimulation. We also present preliminary data in which X-ray microanalysis of frozen specimens has been used to determine the elemental composition of ASL.

일체형 팬 앤 패드 시스템과 에어 덕트를 이용한 온실 냉방 (Greenhouse Cooling Using Air Duct and Integrated Fan and Pad System)

  • 온실의 한쪽 벽에 패드를 설치하고 반대쪽 벽에 팬을 설치하여 가동하는 팬 앤 패드 냉방 온실의 온도 경사 문제를 극복하기 위한 목적으로 일체형 팬 앤패드 시스템과 에어 덕트를 설치한 온실의 냉방 실험을 통하여 냉방성능을 분석하였다. 일체형 팬 앤 패드 증발냉각기의 효율은 1단 가동시 75.7%, 2단 가동시 88.6%로 나타나 대체로 우수한 냉각효율을 보이는 것으로 판단된다. 온실의 냉방성능 실험 결과 무차광 조건에서 온실 냉방 시스템을 가동할 경우 대조구 온실에 비해서 $5.7\sim7.6^{\circ}C$ 정도의 냉방효과가 있으며 차광 조건에서는 $7.4\sim9.7^{\circ}C$ 정도의 냉방효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 시스템을 적용할 경우 여름철 온실의 최고기온을 $37^{\circ}C$ 정도로써 외기온 대비 $5^{\circ}C$ 이내로 유지할 수 있으며, 적절한 차광을 실시할 경우에는 $33^{\circ}C$ 정도에 $2^{\circ}C$ 이내로 유지하는 것이 가능하여 고온기 작물재배에 큰 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 생각한다. 한편, 본 냉방 실험에서 온실의 온도 분포를 분석한 결과 18m 길이의 온실 내 최대 온도 편차는 차광시 $1.6\sim1.7^{\circ}C$, 무차광시 $2.3\sim2.7^{\circ}C$ 정도로 나타났다. Kittas 등(2003)과 Nam 등(2005)의 자료와 비교한 결과 본 연구에서 구상한 일체형 팬 앤 패드 시스템과 에어 덕트를 이용한 온실 냉방시스템은 기존의 팬 앤 패드 냉방 온실의 최대 단점인 온도 편차를 40~50% 정도 개선할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 시스템은 자연환기 상태에서 가동할 수 있으므로 단동 온실에 적용하기가 쉬우며, 일체형 증발냉각기 출구로부터 온실 내 에어 덕트 시점까지의 연결 덕트 부분을 철저하게 단열하면 냉방성능을 더욱 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

지구온난화 조건에서 광 처리에 따른 졸참나무와 갈참나무의 생육반응 (Effect of Light on the Growth Responses of Quercus serrata and Q. aliena to Elevated $CO_2$ and Temperature)

  • 우리나라 참나무 중 하천변 잠재자연식생인 졸참나무와 갈참나무가 $CO_2$농도와 온도상승 조건에서, 광 처리에 따른 생육반응의 변화를 알아보았다. 그 결과, 대조구(AC-AT)와 처리구(EC-ET)에서 두 종의 생육반응은 광에 의해 영향을 받았다. 졸참나무와 갈참나무의 지상부, 지하부, 식물체 생물량 그리고 지하부/지상부 비는 대조구와 처리구에서 광이 가장 많을 때 높았다. $CO_2$농도와 온도증가는 두 종의 식물체 생물량과 지하부/지상부 비에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 그러나 두 종의 지상부 생물량은 $CO_2$농도와 온도가 증가했을 때 감소하였다. 졸참나무의 지하부 생물량은 광 70% 이상에서 대조구보다 $CO_2$+온도상승구에서 낮았다. 이를 종합해보면, 두 종은 $CO_2$+온도상승구에서 광이 증가함에 따라 뿌리의 발달을 촉진시켰으며, $CO_2$농도와 온도가 증가하였을 때 지상부 생육에는 부정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 주성분분석 결과 두 종은 대조구와 $CO_2$+온도상승구에서 다소 배열차이가 있었으나, 두 종간에서 더욱 명확히 구별되었다. 이러한 반응은 축1과 축2에 의존하는 모든 기능이 줄기와 지상부 길이를 제외하고는 식물체의 여러 다양한 형질이 종합적으로 관여하는 것으로 나타났다.

A Numerical Model for the Freeze-Thaw Damages in Concrete Structures

  • This paper deals with the accumulated damage in concrete structures due to the cyclic freeze-thaw as an environmental load. The cyclic ice body nucleation and growth processes in porous systems are affected by the thermo-physical and mass transport properties, and gradients of temperature and chemical potentials. Furthermore, the diffusivity of deicing chemicals shows significantly higher value under cyclic freeze-thaw conditions. Consequently, the disintegration of concrete structures is aggravated at marine environments, higher altitudes, and northern areas. However, the properties of cyclic freeze-thaw with crack growth and diffusion of chloride ion effects are hard to be identified in tests, and there has been no analytic model for the combined degradations. The main objective is to determine the driving force and evaluate the reduced strength and stiffness by freeze-thaw. For the development of computational model of those coupled deterioration, micro-pore structure characterization, pore pressure based on the thermodynamic equilibrium, time and temperature dependent super-cooling with or without deicing salts, nonlinear-fracture constitutive relation for the evaluation of internal damage, and the effect of entrained air pores (EA) has been modeled numerically. As a result, the amount of ice volume with temperature dependent surface tensions, freezing pressure and resulting deformations, and cycle and temperature dependent pore volume has been calculated and compared with available test results. The developed computational program can be combined with DuCOM, which can calculate the early aged strength, heat of hydration, micro-pore volume, shrinkage, transportation of free water in concrete. Therefore, the developed model can be applied to evaluate those various practical degradation cases as well.

한국 남부해역의 수온약층 추출 알고리즘 개발 (Development of Algorithms for Extracting Thermocline Parameters in the South Sea of Korea)

  • A new algorithm was developed, not only to detect the existence of a thermocline, but also to extract the thermocline parameters (such as thermocline thickness, mixed layer thickness, maximum temperature gradient, and temperature difference of thermocline), using the vertical profile of water temperature. According to Kappa analysis, in order to find adequate threshold values of vertical water temperature gradients ${\Delta}T$ ($^{\circ}C/m$), agreement and reliability were 87% and 0.74 respectively, in the conditions of maximum ${\Delta}T{\geq}0.5$ and surface and bottom layers ${\Delta}T<{\mid}0.2{\mid}$. Also, three different kinds of methods, viz. 1. Gradient method, 2. Hyperbolic tangent method, and 3. Differential hyperbolic tangent method, were tested to extract the key parameters of a thermocline. Comparing the results of three different methods, the differential hyperbolic tangent method was the most appropriate to extract the start and end point of a thermocline curve.

LARGE SCALE FINITE ELEMENT THERMAL ANALYSIS OF THE BOLTS OF A FRENCH PWR CORE INTERNAL BAFFLE STRUCTURE

  • The internal core baffle structure of a French Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) consists of a collection of baffles and formers that are attached to the barrel. The connections are done thanks to a large number of bolts (about 1500). After inspection, some of the bolts have been found cracked. This has been attributed to the Irradiation Assisted Stress Corrosion Cracking (IASCC). The $Electricit\acute{e}$ De France (EDF) has set up a research program to gain better knowledge of the temperature distribution, which may affect the bolts and the whole structure. The temperature distribution in the structure was calculated thanks to the thermal code SYRTHES that used a finite element approach. The heat transfer between the by-pass flow inside the cavities of the core baffle and the structure was accounted for thanks to a strong thermal coupling between the thermal code SYRTHES and the CFD code named Code_Saturne. The results for the CP0 plant design show that both the high temperature and strong temperature gradients could potentially induce mechanical stresses. The CPY design, where each bolt is individually cooled, had led to a reduction of temperatures inside the structures. A new parallel version of SYRTHES, for calculations on very large meshes and based on MPI, has been developed. A demonstration test on the complete structure that has led to about 1.1 billion linear tetraedra has been calculated on 2048 processors of the EDF Blue Gene computer.

온통구(溫筒灸)의 연소특성(燃燒特性)에 관한 실험적(實驗的) 연구(硏究) (Experimental Study on the Combustion Chracteristics in the Moxa Bucket Moxibustion)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanism and effect of moxa bucket moxibustion. Objectively, to be used as the quantitative data through the measurement of temperature, and to grasp the thermodynamic characteristics of moxa bucket moxibustion. Methods: We have selected of the moxa bucket moxibustion. We make a comparative study of the thermodynamic characteristics of moxa bucket moxibustion. We examined combustion times, temperatures, temperature gradients in each period during a combustion of moxa bucket moxibustion made by oak wood. Results: 1. We can design the moxa bucket moxibustion that it has 57.6$^{\circ}C$ maximum temperature with 7g weight and 10mm height, if we use more weight of moxa or lower the height of moxa, we can observe relatively elavated maximum temperature. We observe the maximum temperature following the measuring position of moxa bucket and we can see higher temperature at the center of the moxa bucket and lower temperature at the side of the moxa bucket. 2. We can design the moxa bucket moxibustion with 5g moxa and 10mm height that it has 0.121 $^{\circ}C$/sec of maximum temperature gradient, and it has relatively high temperature gradient at lower weight and height condition. 3. We can design the moxa bucket moxibustion with 7g moxa and 15mm height that it has 4,135sec of the longest effective temperature combustion time, if we use more weight of moxa or higher height of moxa, we can observe relatively extended effective temperature combustion time. We observe the longest effective combustion time following the measuring position of moxa bucket. We can see higher temperature at the center of the moxa bucket and lower temperature at the side of the moxa bucket.
