In order to set the outdoor weather conditions to be applied to the design standard of the greenhouse heating and cooling system, outdoor air temperature and heating degree-hour for heating design, dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature and solar irradiance for cooling design were analyzed and presented. For every region in Korea, we used thirty years from 1981 to 2010 hourly weather data for analysis, which is the current standard of climatological normal provided by KMA. Since the use of standard weather data is limited, design weather conditions were obtained using the entire weather data for 30 years, and the average value of the entire data period was presented as a design standard. The design weather data with exceedance probability of 1, 2.5, and 5% were analyzed by the TAC method, and we presented the distribution map with exceedance probability of 1% for heating and 2.5% for cooling which are recommended by design standards. The changes of maximum heating load, seasonal heating load and maximum cooling load were examined by regions, exceedance probabilities, and setpoint temperatures. The proposed outdoor design conditions can be used not only directly for the greenhouse heating and cooling design, but also for the reinforcement of heating and cooling facilities and the establishment of energy saving measures. Recently, due to the climate change, sweltering heat in summer and abnormal temperature in winter are occurring frequently, so we need to analyze weather data periodically and revise the design standard at least every 10 years cycle.
Photoinhibition of photosystem (PS) n was induced in primary leaves of 25 day-old peppers grown $100\;{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1},\;at\;25^{\circ}C$. The modulation of PSII functionality in vivo was induced by varying both irradiance ($0-3000\;{\mu}molm^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) and duration (0-70 min) of light treatment. The functionality of PSII was investigated in terms of photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm) and quantum yield of $O_2$ evolution, and expressed as a function of photon exposure [$mol\;photons{\cdot}m^{-2}$, the product of irradiance and duration of light treatment (Bell and Rose, 1981)]. Contrary to the linear decline of Fv/Fm ratio showing 50% decreases by absorption of $10\;mol\;photons{\cdot}m^{-2$, quantum yield of $O_2$ evolution decreased biphasically with increasing photon exposure, showing 50% decreases by absorption of $5.5\;mol\;photons{\cdot}m^{-2}$. Treatment of low temperature at $15^{\circ}C$ for 30 min alone did not affect the functionality of PSII, but high temperature ($45^{\circ}C$) significantly inactivated PSII activity. However, when Jeaves of pepper were subjected to low or high temperature in the presence of light, PSII was substantially photoinactivated. These results suggest the presence of different photoinhibitory mechanisms at low and high temperature.rature.
Computer simulation of buildings and solar energy systems is being used increasingly in energy assessments and design. The purpose of our work is to predict the surface temperature on inclined surfaces based on ISO-TRY typical weather data. To reach this goal, three studies were performed. They consisted of quantifying the accuracy of various well-known three models. The first type of models calculated diffuse horizontal irradiations from global ones and the second type models computed global irradiations on inclined planes from diffuse and global components on a horizontal surface. The third type of model calculated long-wave radiation and surface temperature from ISO-TRY typical weather data. The proposed model can provide an alternative to building designers in estimating the surface temperature and solar irradiation on inclined surfaces where only the typical meteorological data are available.
Many microelectronic devices are miniaturizing the capacitance density and the size of the capacitor. Along with this miniaturization of electronic circuits, tantalum (Ta) capacitors have been on the market due to its large demands worldwide and advantages such as high volumetric efficiency, low temperature coefficient of capacitance, high stability and reliability. During a tantalum capacitor manufacturing process, arc welding has been used to weld base frame and sub frame. This arc welding may have limitations since the downsizing of the weldment depends on the size of welding electrode and the contact time may prevent from improving productivity. Therefore, to solve these problems, this study applies laser spot welding to weld nickel (Ni) and Au-Sn-Ni alloy using CW IR fiber laser with lap joint geometry. All laser parameters are fixed and the only control variable is laser irradiance time. Four different shapes, such as no melting upper workpiece, asymmetric spherical-shaped weldment, symmetric weldment, and, excessive weldment, are observed. This shape may be due to different temperature distribution and flow pattern during the laser spot cutting.
Using a squash plant, a chilling-sensitive species, and a spinach plant, a chilling-resistant one, effects of chilling temperature on the photosynthetic machinery were studied in terms of chlorophyll fluorescence. When thylakoid membranes were isolated and subjected to incubation at different temperatures, spinach showed stable photosystem II activity at the low temperature side, in contrast to squash which showed quite severe inactivation at low temperature. When parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence were examined, chilling in darkness did not affect either Fv/Fm or photochemical and non-photochemical quenching, in both types of plants. However, chilling of squash plants under irradiance of medium intensity caused a specific decrease in Fv/Fm accompanied by a decline in energy-dependent quenching. Contrastingly, photosystem li of spinach plants were not much affected by light-chilling. When the pool size of zeaxanthin was examined after exposure to high light at different temperatures, squash plants was shown to have a much lower content of antheraxanthin + zeaxanthin, as compared to spinach plants, during low-temperature photoinhibition. These results suggest that chilling-sensitive plants have low capacity to dissipate excitation energy nonradiatively, when they are exposed to low-temperature photoinhibition, and, as a consequence, more vulnerable to photoinhibitory, damage to the photosynthetic apparatus.

Photovoltaic(PV) system has been studied and watched with keen interest due to a clean and renewable power source. But, the output power of PV system is not only unstable but uncontrollable, because the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of PV system is still hard with the tracking failure under the sudden fluctuation of irradiance. Authors suggest that the optimal voltage for MPPT be obtained by only solar cell temperature. Having an eye on that the optimal voltage point of solar cell is in proportion to its panel temperature, with operating the power converter whose operating point keeps its input voltage to the optimal voltage imagined by the surface's temperature of PV panel, the maximum power point becomes tenderly possible to be tracked. In order to confirm the availability of the proposed control scheme. And both control methods are simulated not only on the various angle of sampling time of switching control, but also with the real field weather condition. As the results of that, the conversion efficiency between PV panel and converter of the proposed control scheme was much better than that of the power comparison MPPT control, and what is better, the output voltage of PV panel was extremely in stable when the optimal voltage for MPPT is obtained by only solar cell temperature.
The process of thermal-degradation of thin-film polymeris studied in this work for various laser sources from CW to fs. Samples composed of a thin polymer layer sandwiched between two glass plates are irradiated by the lasers and the threshold irradiance of polymer carbonization is experimentally measured. In the numerical analysis, the transient temperature distribution is calculated and the number density of carbonization in the polymer layer is also estimated. It is shown that pulsed lasers can result in more uniform distribution of temperature and carbonization than the CW laser.

Maximum power point tracking(MPPT) techniques are used in photovoltaic systems to maximize the PV array output power by tracking continuously the maximum power point which depends on panels temperature and on irradiance conditions. This paper proposes a variable step size MPPT algorithm which can improve the MPPT speed and accuracy. Depending on insolation and temperature, the MPPT controller gives optimized step size. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified thorough PSIM simulation and experiments on a 50[W] prototype. The experimental results confirm that the PV power of the improved P&O method is higher than that of the traditional P&O method.

A forcasting scheme for daily solar irradiance on agricultural field sis proposed by application of chaos theory to a long term observation data. It was conducted by reconstruction of phase space, attractor analysis, and Lyapunov analysis. Using the methodology , it was determined whether evolution of the five climatic data such as daily air temperature , water temperature , relative humidity, solar radiation, and wind speed are chaotic or not. The climatic data were collected for three years by an automated weather station at Hwasung-gun, Kyonggi-province. The results showed that the evolution of solar radiation was chaotic , and could be predicted. The prediction of the evolution of the solar radiation data was executed by using ' local optimal linear reconstruction ' algorithm . The RMS value of the predicting for the solar radiation evolution was 4.32 MJ/$m^2$ day. Therefore, it was feasible to predict the daily solar radiation based on the chaos theory.

Three harmful algal bloom species with similar morphology, Cochlodinium polykrikoides, Gyodinium impudicum and Gymodinium catenatum have damaged to aquatic animals or human health by either making massive blooms or intoxication of shellfishes in a food chain. Eco-physiological and hydrodynamic studies on the harmful algae offer useful informations in the understanding their bloom mechanism by giving promising data for the prediction and modelling of harmful algal blooms event. Thus, we studied the abundance of these species in the coastal area of South Sea of Korea and their effects of temperature, salinity, irradiance and nutrient on the growth for the isolates. The timing for initial appearance of the three species around the coastal area of Namhaedo, Narodo and Wando was between Bate July and late August in 1999 when water temperature ranged from $22.8^{\circ}C\;to\;26.5^{\circ}C$ Vegetative cells of C. polykrikoides and G. impudicum were abundant until late September when water temperature had been dropped to less than $23^{\circ}C$. By contrast, vegetative cell of G. catenatum disappeared before early September, showing shorter period of abundance than the other two species in the South Sea. Both G. impudicum and G. catenatum revealed comparatively low density with a maximal cell density of 3,460 cells/L and 440 cells/L, respectively without making any bloom, while C. polykrikoides made massive blooms with a maximal cell density more than $40\times10^6$cells/L, The three species showed a better growth at the relatively higher water temperature ranging from 22 to $28^{\circ}C$ with their maximal growth rate at $25^{\circ}C$ in culture, which almost corresponded with the water temperature during the outbreak of C. polykrikoides in the coastal area of South Sea. Also, they all showed a relatively higher growth at the salinity from 30 to $35\%$. Specially, G. impudicum showed the euryhalic characteristics among the species, On the other hand, growth rate of G. catenatum decreased sharply with the increase of water temperature at the experimental ranges more than $35\%$. The higher of light intensities showed the better growth rates for the three species, Moreover, C. polykrikoides and G. impudirum continued their exponential growth even at 7,500 lux, the highest level of light intensity in the experiment, Therefore, It is assumed that C. polykrikoides has a physiological capability to adapt and utilize higher irradiance resulting in the higher growth rate without any photo inhibition response at the sea surface where there is usually strong irradiance during its blooming season. Although C. poiykikoides and G. impudicum continued their linear growth with the increase of nitrate ($NO_3^-$) and ammonium ($NH_4^-$) concentrations at less than the $40{\mu}M$, they didn't show any significant differences in growth rates with the increase of nitrate and ammonium concentrations at more than $40{\mu}M$, signifying that the nitrogen critical point for the growth of the two species stands between 13.5 and $40{\mu}M$. Also, even though both of the two species continued their linear growth with the increase of phosphate ($PO_4^{2-}$) concentrations at less than the $4.05{\mu}M$, there were no any significant differences in growth rates with the increase of phosphate concentrations at more than $4.05{\mu}M$, signifying that the phosphate critical point for the growth of the two species stands between 1.35 and $4.05{\mu}M$. On the other hand, C. polykrikoides has made blooms at the oligotrophic environment near Narodo and Namhaedo where the concentration of DIN and DIP are less than 1.2 and $0.3{\mu}M$, respectively. We attributed this phenomenon to its own ecological characteristics of diel vertical migration through which C. polykrikoides could uptake enough nutrients from the deep sea water near bottom during the night time irrespective of the lower nutrient pools in the surface water.
