  • Objectives: This survey was designed to conduct the first nationwide dietary exposure assessment on hazardous substances including the intakes of functional food and herbal medicine. In this paper, we introduced the survey design and the results of the dietary exposure status and internal exposure levels of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and mercury (Hg). Methods: We selected 4867 subjects of all ages throughout Korea. We conducted a food survey, dietary survey, biomonitoring, and health survey. Results: Pb and Cd were the highest (median value) in the seaweed ($94.2{\mu}g/kg$ for Pb; $594{\mu}g/kg$ for Cd), and Hg was the highest in the fish ($46.4{\mu}g/kg$). The dietary exposure level (median value) of Pb was $0.14{\mu}g/kg$ body weight (bw)/d, $0.18{\mu}g/kg$ bw/d for Cd, and $0.07{\mu}g/kg$ bw/d for Hg. Those with a blood Pb level of less than $5.00{\mu}g/dL$ (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reference value for those 1 to 5 years of age) were 99.0% of all the subjects. Those with a blood Cd level with less than $0.30{\mu}g/L$ (German Federal Environmental Agency, reference value for non-smoking children) were 24.5%. For those with a blood Hg level with less than $5.00{\mu}g/L$ (human biomonitoring I, references value for children and adults, German Federal Environmental Agency) was 81.0 % of all the subjects. Conclusions: The main dietary exposure of heavy metals occurs through food consumed in a large quantity and high frequency. The blood Hg level and dietary exposure level of Hg were both higher than those in the European Union.

  • In this paper, a supervised algorithm for the evaluation of geophysical sites using a multi-level cellular neural network (ML-CNN) is introduced, developed, and applied to real data. ML-CNN is a stochastic image processing technique based on template optimization using neighborhood relationships of the pixels. The separation/enhancement and border detection performance of the proposed method is evaluated by various interesting real applications. A genetic algorithm is used in the optimization of CNN templates. The first application is concerned with the separation of potential field data of the Dumluca chromite region, which is one of the rich reserves of Turkey; in this context, the classical approach to the gravity anomaly separation method is one of the main problems in geophysics. The other application is the border detection of archeological ruins of the Hittite Empire in Turkey. The Hittite civilization sites located at the Sivas-Altinyayla region of Turkey are among the most important archeological sites in history, one reason among others being that written documentation was first produced by this civilization.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of tofu prepared with the addition of lotus root powder (LRP). The moisture, crude ash, carbohydrate, crude protein, and crude lipid contents of the lotus root powder were 8.29%, 4.73%, 30.66%, 47.84%, and 8.48%, respectively. The yield rate of the tofu did not differ significantly according to the level of added LRP; however, there was a significant decrease in pH and a significant increase in acidity. The L and b values of the tofu decreased as the amount of LRP in the formulation increased, whereas the a value increased. Furthermore, hardness and cohesiveness increased significantly as the level of LRP increased. In sensory evaluation, LRP tofu had low scores in air cell size and a beany smell, but high scores in hardness. In terms of overall acceptability, the preferred tofu samples were the control and that containing 0.3% lotus root powder.

  • Radiated emission / susceptibility performance of the KSLV-I 2nd stage which are controlled from the unit level to the system level should be examined and managed all over the frequency ranges in order to ensure the normal operation of the SC, the 1st stage of the KSLV-I, ground support equipments which are installed at the space center, and other wireless communication networks. Not only unintentional electric field emissions from the KSLV-I system and its subsystems should be restricted to the levels less than the limits specified in the EMC requirements, but also proper test and evaluation method should be established, respectively. In this paper, radiated emission/susceptibility test limits, method, and test results of the KSLV-I 2nd stage engineering model are presented.

  • This paper presents a fine-grain supply-voltage-control scheme for low-power FPGAs. The proposed supply-voltage-control scheme detects the critical path in real time with small overheads by exploiting features of asynchronous architectures. In an FPGA based on the proposed supply-voltage-control scheme, logic blocks on the sub-critical path are autonomously switched to a lower supply voltage to reduce the power consumption without system performance degradation. Moreover, in order to reduce the overheads of level shifters used at the power domain interface, a look-up-table without level shifters is employed. Because of the small overheads of the proposed supply-voltage-control scheme and the power domain interface, the granularity size of the power domain in the proposed FPGA is as fine as a single four-input logic block. The proposed FPGA is fabricated using the e-Shuttle 65 nm CMOS process. Correct operation of the proposed FPGA on the test chip is confirmed.

  • Automatic exposure control systems are now readily available and widly used in radiography. A device that automatically determines the amount of radiation required to produce an acceptable level of film blackness is called a phototimer, or automatic exposure control. There are limitations in the use of phototimers ; however, equipment can be used much more effectively if one recognize these limitations, and the goal of obtaining a properly exposed, reproducible radiography can be achieved. We have some results in this experimental study. The variations of film density due to kVp are in propotion to below 80 kVp range. But indicate constant level above 80 kVp to 120 kVp. The characteristic density variation by phantom thickness shows the higher the thiner in exit type. AEC system have a density control that is designed to make adjustments increase or decreas the density 10% per step or 25% per step. The automatic exposure control circuits must meet the several regulations of the HEW. Some forms of technique chart is recomened for use of AEC.

  • In recent years, polymer concrete based on polyester resin have been widely generalized and the research of polymer concrete have been actively pursued by the technical innovations. Polymer concrete is a composite consisting of aggregates and an organic resin binder that hardens by polymerization. Polymer concrete are stronger by a factor of three or more in compression, a factor of four to six in tension and flexural and a factor of two in impact when compared with portland cement concrete. In view of the growing use of polymer concrete, it is important to study the physical characteristics of the material, emphasizing the short term properties as well as long term mechanical behavior. If polymer concrete is to be used in flexural load-bearing application such as in beam, it is imperative to understand the deformation of the material under sustained loading conditions. This study is proposed to empirical and mechanical model of polymer concrete tension creep using long-term experimental results and mathematical development. The test results showed that proposed model has been used successfully to predict creep deformations at a stress level that was 20 percent of the ultimate strength and viscoelastic behavior of recycled-PET polymer concrete is linear of stress level up to 30 percent. It is expected that the present model allows more realistic evaluation of varying stresses in polymer concrete structures with a constant loading.
