  • As the technique to remove Paraloid B-72, which is known as an irreversible material, the method using organic solvent and heating, though the ways vary depending on the kind of material to be removed, has been usually used, but it has yet to apply to mud mural because of the technical limit in processing and the potential risk of damage and, moreover, the removal efficiency which also remains unproven. Thus, in a bid to seek the way to safely remove Paraloid B-72 contained in mural, the test was conducted in a way of applying a compress method, which is deemed most efficient. The solvents which are proven to be Paraloid B-72 were applied to the absorbents such as active carbon fiber and methyl cellulose and then were eluted to the surface of mud mural sample which was prepared in the same size and condition for a certain time before evaluating the stability and removal efficiency. Such test was intended to identify the applicability to the mural of Mireukjeon Hall at Geunsansa Temple, which had been treated with Paraloid B-72 for preservation in the past. As a result, the way of mixing the absorbent such as active carbon fiber and Xylene alone or with other quick vaporable solvents proved to be most efficient in removing Paraloid B-72 from mud mural and particularly Acetone:Xylene(1:1wt%) was found to be the most stable among others. Such a test outcome is expected to be a useful data for removing Paraloid B-72 from the mural of Mireukjeon Hall at Geunsansa Temple as well as for restoring other mural cultural assets in the coming days.

  • Recently, interest in environmental issues is increasing worldwide due to abnormal climate phenomena caused by global warming. Global efforts are continuing to actively respond to climate change, but the dependence on fossil fuels is still high. In particular, a huge amount of fossil fuels and mineral resources are buried in the Arctic Circle, so development and construction projects are being actively pursued. Participation and cooperation in the development of Arctic resources (oil and gas resources) is one of the alternatives to domestic energy supply. Resource development in the Arctic Circle requires close review(Poor development environment and technical limitations due to extreme climate, environmental problems due to resource development, social impact, etc.) in advance compared to general resource development. In this pater, the laws and guidelines related to climate change to be considered were reviewed. when developing Arctic resources. In addition, the countermeasures against climate change applied in large-scale resource development projects in the Arctic were reviewed. It is expected that the results of the research and analysis of this study will be used to establish strategies to respond to new risk factors that influence the successful promotion and operation of the Arctic region resource development project.

  • Technology readiness assessment is a procedure for managing defense project risk factors based on the preemptive identification of technical risks. Under current regulations, technology readiness is determined based on considerations of the ratings of factors itemized on a checklist, whether unsatisfied factors have a fatal impact on the project, and whether countermeasures for unsatisfied factors have been established. However, objective criteria for assessing the impact of unsatisfied factors have not been presented, and thus, at present, the results of technology readiness level determinations are largely subjective. In addition, the importance of questions on the checklist is dependent on individual project characteristics and this is not considered during the assessment process. In this paper, we propose an improved technology readiness assessment procedure that considers the characteristics of each project. Using the proposed procedure, we quantitatively determined the importance of each checklist item using a weighting method. We found the devised procedure improved the reliability and objectivity of technology readiness assessment results. A case analysis of a complex weapons system is presented to demonstrate these improvements.

  • The World Economic Forum has included Water-Energy-Food among the three major risk groups in the world, and Water-Energy-Food is related to the development strategies of countries and the lives of their citizens. This study calculates the combined Water-Energy-Food use efficiency in China for 2011-2020 based on the SBM-Malmquist index. The results show that the overall combined Water-Energy-Food efficiency in China is low, but shows an upward trend. There is a clear variability in the combined Water-Energy-Food utilization efficiency in China, with an overall geographic distribution pattern of East > Middle > West. Only Beijing and Shanghai have reached the real above effective nationwide, and all other provinces have inefficiency between input and output. The Malmquist index of integrated Water-Energy-Food utilization efficiency is 1.136, with an up ward trend, and technical efficiency and technological progress lead the improvement of integrated Water-Energy-Food utilization efficiency in China at the sametime. The Water-Energy-Food issue should be raised to a strategic level as soon as possible, and policy support should be provided for its development. Each region should establish a cross-regional coordinating body to formulate targeted measures according to the province's food production and water distribution, so as to promote economic transformation from sloppy development to green development as soon as possible.

  • Recently, the penetration rate of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is higher than the average among OECD member countries, and the number of MRI scans is increasing. However, MRI scans take longer than other medical devices, and patient movement must be minimized. Therefore, patient discomfort always follows. When the examination is performed in the discomfort of the patient, it is difficult to perform an accurate examination, and it is difficult to obtain an image of diagnostic value. So, in the past, the patient was asked to read the written guide for the risk and cooperation of MRI, but it was composed of technical terms and difficult-to-understand sentences, so it was difficult to understand. The purpose of this study is to supplement these problems and increase the understanding of MRI scans to help acquire images of diagnostic value. In addition, it is intended to evaluate the excellence of leaflet education by evaluating the understanding and satisfaction of patients. As shown in the results of this study, understanding and satisfaction scores were higher after education than before leaflet education, and it was found that there was a difference in understanding according to academic background. However, there was no difference in the number of MRI scans. That is, there was no difference in the number of inspections due to leaflet education. In the future, leaflet education will be widely used for MRI examination, and it is necessary to study the qualitative evaluation of images after leaflet education in the future.

  • As ICT convergence is progressing in all industrial fields and creating the global ecosystem of the supply chain is accelerating, supply chain risk related with cyber area are also increasing. In particular. the supply chain of ICT products is very complex in terms of technical and environmental factors to be managed, so it is vert difficult to transparently manage the entire life cycle. Accordingly, the US, UK, and EU, etc. are conducting and establishing cyber supply chainsecurity-related research and policies for ICT product supply chains. Korea also has the plan to establish management system to secure the supply chain of major ICT equipment as a task in the basic plan of the national cybersecurity strategy announced in 2019, but there is no concrete policy yet. So, In this paper, we review the cyber supply chain security management system in the United States and present a supplementary way to the National Information Security Manual in Korea from the perspective of cyber supply chain security. It is expected that this will serve as a reference material for cyber supply chain measures that can be introduced in domestic information security field.

  • Bentonite is widely recognized and utilized as a buffer material in high-level radioactive waste repositories, mainly due to its favorable characteristics such as swelling capability and low permeability. Bentonite buffers play an important role in ensuring the safe disposal of radioactive waste by providing a low permeability barrier and effectively preventing the migration of radionuclides into the surrounding rock. However, the long-term performance of bentonite buffers still remains a subject of ongoing research, and one of the main concerns is the erosion of the buffer induced by swelling and groundwater flow. The erosion of the bentonite buffer can significantly impact repository safety by compromising the integrity of buffer and leading to the formation of colloids that may facilitate the transport of radionuclides through groundwater, consequently elevating the risk of radionuclide migration. Therefore, it is very important to numerically quantify the erosion of bentonite buffer to evaluate the long-term performance of bentonite buffer, which is crucial for the safety assessment of high-level radioactive waste disposal. In this technical note, Two-region model is introduced, a proposed model to simulate the erosion behavior of bentonite based on a dynamic bentonite diffusion model, and quantitative evaluation is conducted for the bentonite buffer erosion with this model.

  • Since the late 1990s, the BOT mode in China has been extensively used in the water sector in order to attract private investment, improve technical and operational efficiency, and expand the coverage of water services. The BOT mode has been hailed as this provides a win-win structure between the government and private players through formalized procedures and an optimal risk allocation. However, recent market analyses show that some foreign investors are reluctant to participate in the market or even retreat due to uncertainties and risks in the market. This study aims to explore various risks in the Chinese water BOT market based on the thorough literature review, fieldwork, and the case studies on the two wholly foreign-owned BOT water projects: the Chengdu No. 6 and the Shanghai Dachang Water Supply BOT projects. The research results indicate that the Chinese BOT market embraces high risks in political, institutional and legal, and financial systems. The key to a successful takeoff of the BOT mode in the Chinese water market depends on the extent to which the government will be able to remove risky factors in political, institutional and legal, and financing systems. This research outcome will provide a useful reference to the Korean construction companies which consider expanding business to overseas water markets in the form of public private partnership.
