정수기용 부스터펌프의 가속수명시험 (An Accelerated Life Test of Booster Pump for Water Purifier)

  • This paper presents an accelerated life test of booster pump for home water purifier. The failure analysis shows that decreased flux due to the plastic deformation of bypass spring adjusting pressure is the predominant failure mechanism. An accelerated life test is designed and implemented to estimate the lifetime of the booster pump. Temperature, water pressure and voltage are selected as accelerating variables through the technical review about failure mechanism. It is assumed that the lifetimes of booster pumps follow lognormal distribution and the combination model of temperature and non-thermal stresses holds. The life-stress relationship, acceleration factor, and $B_{10}$ life at design condition are estimated by analyzing the accelerated life test data.

승모판막질환에 대한 재수술: 21례 보고 (Reoperation for Mitral valvular disease - Clinical analysis of 21 cases -)

  • After first successful mitral valvotomy by Harken and Bailey in 1948, improvement of surgical technique and cardiac device may last rapidly for several years, but there after many patients deteriorate because of various causes, so incidence of reoperation for cardiac valvular disease has increased time by time. This paper is concerned with 21 patients in whom a second operation has been carried out from Jan. 1963 to Aug. 1984 at the department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular department, National Medical Center. Of 21 patients, 7 were male and 14 were female, and ages ranged from 14 to 37 years The second operation are classified into groups of secondary closed mitral commissurotomy [3 cases], open commissurotomy following closed mitral commissurotomy [1 case], Valve replacement following closed mitral commissurotomy [14 cases] or bioprosthetic valve replacement [3 cases]. Main cause of reoperation was restenosis or steno insufficiency, and that of bioprosthetic valve failure was bacterial endocarditis [1 case], fibrous tissue overgrowth on the Xenograft [1 case] and technical failure [1 case]. Early operative mortality was absent, but during follow-up, 4 patients died, so late mortality was 19.0%, and main cause of death was congestive heart failure.

Effects of the location and size of web openings on shear behavior of clamped-clamped reinforced concrete beams

  • The present study pertains to the effects of variations in the location and size of drilled web openings on the behavior of fixed-fixed reinforced concrete (RC) beams. For this purpose, a reference bending beam with a transverse opening in each half span was tested to failure. Later, the same beam was modeled and analyzed with the help of finite element software using ABAQUS. Upon achieving close agreement between the experimental and numerical results, the location and size of the web opening were altered to uncover the effects of these factors on the shear strength and load-deflection behavior of RC beams. The experimental failure mode of the tested beam and the numerical results were also verified by theoretical calculations. In numerical analysis, when compared to the reference (D0) specimen, if the distance of the opening center from the support is 0 or h or 2h, reduction in load-bearing capacity of 1.5%-22.8% or 2.0%-11.3% or is 4.1%-40.7%. In other words, both the numerical analyses and theoretical calculations indicated that the beam behavior shifted from shear-controlled to flexure-controlled as the openings approached the supports. Furthermore, the deformation capacities, energy absorption values, and the ductilities of the beams with different opening diameters also increased with the decreasing distance of the opening from supports. Web compression failure was shown to be the predominant mode of failure of beams with large diameters due to the lack of sufficient material in the diagonal compression strut of the beam. The present study indicated that transverse openings with diameters, not exceeding about 1/3 of the entire beam depth, do not cause the premature shear failure of RC beams. Finally, shear damage should be prevented by placing special reinforcements in the areas where such gaps are opened.

An improved response surface method for reliability analysis of structures

  • This paper presents an algorithm for structural reliability with the response surface method. For this aim, an approach with three stages is proposed named as improved response surface method. In the algorithm, firstly, a quadratic approximate function is formed and design point is determined with First Order Reliability Method. Secondly, a point close to the exact limit state function is searched using the design point. Lastly, vector projected method is used to generate the sample points and Second Order Reliability Method is performed to obtain reliability index and probability of failure. Five numerical examples are selected to illustrate the proposed algorithm. The limit state functions of three examples (cantilever beam, highly nonlinear limit state function and dynamic response of an oscillator) are defined explicitly and the others (frame and truss structures) are defined implicitly. ANSYS finite element program is utilized to obtain the response of the structures which are needed in the reliability analysis of implicit limit state functions. The results (reliability index, probability of failure and limit state function evaluations) obtained from the improved response surface are compared with those of Monte Carlo Simulation, First Order Reliability Method, Second Order Reliability Method and Classical Response Surface Method. According to the results, proposed algorithm gives better results for both reliability index and limit state function evaluations.

  • The whole death by disaster is totalized to 1,515 person from 1993 to 2004 year in our country. In this section life damages by landslide is totalized 357 people(about 24% of whole life damage). About 36 people are died by landslide(such as cutting area failure every year). Kangwon-do need a lot of interests and prevention because dangerous area that landslide occurrence is more than other area at summer localized downpour or thawing season and there is landslide occurrence possibility area more than other area. Kangwon-do area is higher than other area in natural disaster incidence and damage scale because topography and a lot of rainfalls by summer localized in Kangwon-Do than other area. In this study, dangerous area of landslide occurrence possibility is analyzed and compared Kangwon-Do with other areas in our country. as a result, every year we have experienced landslide occurrence and natural disaster. accordingly, we urgently need to prevent landslide occurrence and natural disaster by analy-zed source about landslide occurrence and condition of disaster in Kangwon-Do and suitable engineering method and construction work.

동물에서의 심장동종이식에 관한 실험 (Experiment for Animal Heart Transplantation)

  • We have performed one case of autotransplantation and 11 cases of orthotopic homotransplantation using Korean mongrel dogs, and have scrutinized the hematologic and hemodynamic results. The mean weight of recipients was 15.42*1.2kg and varied from 14kg to 20kg. During the operation, anesthesia and other technical procedures including cardiopulmonary bypass were similar to the usual methods in human cardiac transplantation. It was found that the hematologic values were similar to those of human beings although there was wide variance. Hemodynamically the mean systolic and diastolic arterial pressures were 165.0* 12.9 mmHg and 100.0 *11.8 mmHg respectively, and the mean heart rate was 155.5*23.5/min. All cases died within 24hrs, and the mean survival in all but 6 cases where operative death occurred was 6.83*8.01 hrs[range 2-21 hrs]. The major causes of deaths were bleedings in 7 cases, failure to protect myocardium during the procedure in 2 cases, pulmonary edema in 1 case and multiorgan failure in 2 cases. From the above results we concluded that the most frequent complication was bleeding, and the cardiopulmonary bypass flow of 50-500ml/kg min was not suitable to the dog in CPB. In further experiment after this study, the technical and the bypass flow was increased. Bleeding was not significant. And the immunosuppresion during operation and postoperative period was tried.

Stress and Strain for Perated Tensile Specimen -Experiemental Measurements and FEA Simulations

  • The strain distribution in the vicinity of a hole in a tensile strip was measured using an image correlation method. The objective of this study is to evaluate the capability of predicting the strain component response using a constitutive model that was developed for use with paper materials. The need for a special constitutive model for paper derives from the characteristics of pronounced anisotropy and the fact that the material behaves differently under compressive loading than it does under tensile loading. The results of the simulation showed that predictions of strain distribution around the hole were in agreement with the experimental result trends, however, the agreement deteriorated as the edge of the hole was reached. It was observed that there is extensive inelastic strain that takes place around the hole prior to failure of the tensile strip. The simulation results showed that any difference between tensile and compressive behavior that may exist for paper material does not have any significant effect for the problem of this study because the level of compressive stress is quite low in comparison with compressive failure values.

  • 글로벌 싱글 인스턴스(GSI) 기반의 기업의 정보시스템은 기업 내부정보 및 자원/자산을 통합관리하고 프로세스의 동질성을 확보하여 업무의 효율성 및 전사적인 생산성을 향상시키고 있지만 정보시스템의 장애가 발생하게 되면 비즈니스가 마비될 수 있고 그로 인해 엄청난 금전적 손실이 따르는 위험을 동시에 안고 있다. 여분의 부품 사용을 전제하는 수많은 결함허용(Fault-Tolerance) 기법들이 안정적인 정보시스템을 위해 연구되어 왔다. 결함허용 기법의 설계 및 적용의 어려운 점은 결함의 유형 및 빈도를 정보시스템을 운영하기 전에는 알기 어렵다는 것이다. 따라서 정보시스템 구축 단계에서의 결함허용 기법의 적용과 함께, 구축 후, 운영적인 측면에서의 장애관리 기법을 동시에 고려하여 안정적으로 정보시스템을 운영하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 기술분류체계(TRM)기반의 점검포인트와 이벤트 룰엔진 적용으로 시스템 장애를 사전예측 하는 방법을 포함하는 정보시스템 장애관리 기법인 무장애체계 프로세스를 제시 하였다. 또한, 무장애체계 방법을 적용한 장애관리 정보시스템(PICS)을 하이테크 장치산업의 대표기업에 구축하여 무장애체계 방법 적용 전, 후의 효과도 함께 제시 하였다. 무장애체계 도입 후 월별 장애건수, 장애시간은 각각 46%, 56% 감소하였으며, 장애로 인한 매출에 대한 기회 손실금액은 77% 절감하는 효과를 보였다.

기술효율, 환경효율, 규모효율과 그 결정요인 분석 -한국농가의 소득계층을 중심으로- (Technical Efficiency, Scale Efficiency, Environmental Efficiency and the Analysis of the Decision Factors)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 투입물 효율함수를 이용하여 한국농가의 소득계층을 대상으로 기술효율, 환경효율, 규모효율을 측정하고, Tobit 모형으로 그 결정요인을 분석하는 것이다. 본 연구는 비모수적(nonparametric) 방법에 의존하여 재화의 가격이나 최적화 행동에 관한 가정없이 투입요소와 산출량에 의존하여 기술효율을 계측한다. 생산기술은 바람직한 재화와 바람직하지 못한 오염물의 결합생산을 모형화한다. 규모불변과 강처분 하에서 평균 기술효율 수준은 0.437 이었다. 기술비효율의 원인은 순수기술비효율이 47.7%, 규모비효율은 11.3%, 환경비효율 3.2%의 순이다. 규모체증 상태에서 생산농가는 전체농가의 70%를 점유하고 규모체감 상태에서 생산농기는 전체농가의 27%에 이른다. 효율성을 결정하는 요인으로 소득계층이 높을수록 중장기 부채가 높을수록 단위면적당 질소배출량이 높을수록 기술효율은 높았고, 경지면적당 농업경영비가 높을수록 기술효율은 저하되었다. 환경효율에서는 BOD 배출량, 단위면적당 기계도입, 자본의 생산성 유의적이고 음(-)으로 나타나, 청정기술이 아닌 단순한 기계화의 확대는 환경효율을 악화시키는데 영향을 주고 있음을 시사한다.

Effect of multiple-failure events on accident management strategy for CANDU-6 reactors

  • Lessons learned from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident directed that multiple failures should be considered more seriously rather than single failure in the licensing bases and safety cases because attempts to take accident management measures could be unsuccessful under the high radiation environment aggravated by multiple failures, such as complete loss of electric power, uncontrollable loss of coolant inventory, failure of essential safety function recovery. In the case of the complete loss of electric power called station blackout (SBO), if there is no mitigation action for recovering safety functions, the reactor core would be overheated, and severe fuel damage could be anticipated due to the failure of the active heat sink. In such a transient condition at CANDU-6 plants, the seal failure of the primary heat transport (PHT) pumps can facilitate a consequent increase in the fuel sheath temperature and eventually lead to degradation of the fuel integrity. Therefore, it is necessary to specify the regulatory guidelines for multiple failures on a licensing basis so that licensees should prepare the accident management measures to prevent or mitigate accident conditions. In order to explore the efficiency of implementing accident management strategies for CANDU-6 plants, this study proposed a realistic accident analysis approach on the SBO transient with multiple-failure sequences such as seal failure of PHT pumps without operator's recovery actions. In this regard, a comparative study for two PHT pump seal failure modes with and without coolant seal leakage was conducted using a best-estimate code to precisely investigate the behaviors of thermal-hydraulic parameters during transient conditions. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis for different PHT pump seal leakage rates was also carried out to examine the effect of leakage rate on the system responses. This study is expected to provide the technical bases to the accident management strategy for unmitigated transient conditions with multiple failures.
