This study compares various speech rates of Korean learners with those of native Korean. Speech data were collected from 34 native Koreans and 33 Korean learners (19 Chinese and 14 Japanese). Each participant recorded a 9 syllabled Korean sentence at three different speech rate types. A total of 603 speech samples were analyzed by speech rate types (normal, slow, and fast), native languages (Korean, Chinese, Japanese), and learners' proficiency levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced). We found that learners' L1 background plays a role in categorizing different speech rates in the L2 (Korean), and also that the leaners' proficiency correlates with the increase of speaking rate regardless of speech rate categories. More importantly, faster speech rate values found in the advanced level of learners do not necessarily match to the native speakers' speech rate categories. This means that learning speech rate categories can be more complex than we think of proficiency or fluency. That is, speech rate categories may not be acquired automatically during the course of second language learning, and implicit or explicit exposures to various rate types are necessary for second language learners to acquire a high level of communicative skills including speech rate variation. This paper discusses several pedagogical implications in terms of teaching pronunciation to second language learners.
The purpose of this study is to analyze manifestation examples and effects of group creativity in mathematical modeling and to discuss teaching and learning methods for group creativity. The following two points were examined from the theoretical background. First, we examined the possibility of group activity in mathematical modeling. Second, we examined the meaning and characteristics of group creativity. Six students in the second grade of high school participated in this study in two groups of three each. Mathematical modeling task was "What are your own strategies to prevent or cope with blackouts?". Unit of analysis was the observed types of interaction at each stage of mathematical modeling. Especially, it was confirmed that group creativity can be developed through repetitive occurrences of mutually complementary, conflict-based, metacognitive interactions. The conclusion is as follows. First, examples of mutually complementary interaction, conflict-based interaction, and metacognitive interaction were observed in the real-world inquiry and the factor-finding stage, the simplification stage, and the mathematical model derivation stage, respectively. And the positive effect of group creativity on mathematical modeling were confirmed. Second, example of non interaction was observed, and it was confirmed that there were limitations on students' interaction object and interaction participation, and teacher's failure on appropriate intervention. Third, as teaching learning methods for group creativity, we proposed students' role play and teachers' questioning in the direction of promoting interaction.

This article is devoted to the consideration of the image strategies of higher education on the example of a comparison of Ukrainian and foreign experience. The relevance of the chosen topic is as follows. Today, educational institutions need to position, shape and elevate their image. Background: The present objective was to verify whether burnout (emotional exhaustion [EE], depersonalization [DP] and low professional efficacy [PE]) is a risk factor for long-term sickness absence (LTSA; 30 consecutive days) from the teaching role. Methods: This was a prospective cohort study with two years of follow-up that investigated 509 elementary and high-school teachers. Burnout was identified by Maslach Burnout Inventory. Poisson regression with robust variance was used to adjust for possible confounders. Results: The incidence of LTSA was 9.4%. High EE levels were associated with LTSA in the crude analysis, but the association lost statistical significance after adjustments (for sex, age, perception of work-life balance, general self-rated health, chronic pain and depression). High DP levels were associated with this outcome, even after all adjustments (relative risk = 1.80; 95% confidence interval: 1.05-3.09). Low PE levels were not related to LTSA. Conclusion: The results reinforce the need to improve teachers' work conditions to reduce burnout, particularly DP, and its consequences.
The aim of this research article is to investigate the life and educational ministry of friars, focusing on the Dominican friars, along with its influence on parish priests and laymen during late middle Ages. The friars' apostolic life and competent teaching ministry greatly contributed to the faith formation of the laity who desperately sought out sacred truth. In particular, the Dominican friars' teaching of orthodox theology and logical argument gave rise to the conversion of some heretics, including Cathars. In addition, their ministry helped parish priests maintain hold on the essence of the church and their apostolic vocation. Finally, the friars' educational ministry played a significant role in enabling the parish priests to take their responsibilities as confessors, teachers, preachers, and healers of souls.

The educational environment of the era of age of uncertainty and human and disaster, where nothing is predictable, so it is bringing about many changes. The purpose of this study is to suggest the implications of Integrative arts therapy in the educational field of unpredictable times as a way to move the minds of people living in various educational changes. As for the research method, the characteristics of the integrative arts therapy shown in the previous studies were examined through the literature method, and then through the cases in the modern education environment practiced we propose three things. First, in the field of university education, students should have an integrative arts therapy approach in terms of teaching methods, and also, second, in order to recover from failure and frustration, continuous gratitude sharing training to discover and acknowledge positivity in the situation by changing perspectives should improve students' self-esteem and self-efficacy. Third, professors should play the role of facilitators and also coaches in knowledge transfer. Therefore the coaching process should be integrated into the process of sustainable education when the integrative arts therapy is approached from the pedagogical curriculum.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the basic data in order to examine and perform the plan for activating the team teaching between industry-educational adjunct teachers and vocational teachers in technical high school. The research results are as follows. First, It is found that both teacher groups acknowledge the necessity of the team teaching, but vocational teachers are less likely to recognize the necessity than industry-educational adjunct teachers. Second, In the preparation of team teaching, both two groups of the teachers believe that the preliminary interchange and training between them are to be highly supportive for the activities expected to help teachers. Therefore, it is necessary to have opportunity of communication and narrow the difference of opinions between them by promoting the deep interest about applicable field and sharing the mutual idea between the teachers in the preparation of team teaching. Third, And the two groups recognize that the cooperation and joint establishment of design of team teaching and the individual process or joint progress of class activity are desirable for the proper design of team teaching. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the class environment for the interaction between teachers and students through not only the reciprocal activities between teachers but the interest class by systematically preparing the class design and role division clearly. Fourth, In the practice of team teaching, the two groups believe that the teaching activities can be usually divided and progressed, but it is desirable to work together in the related contents. The vocational teachers recognize that it is necessary to actively interact with students by connecting with the case of industry field. On the other side, industry-educational adjunct teachers think that the learning contents should be selected and organized according to the interests of students by associating with the case of industry field. Fifth, And two groups of teachers recognize that it is desirable to evaluate the grade by reflecting on the assessment by vocational teachers(50%), industry-educational adjunct teachers(50%).
This study proposes to implement premarital education programs designed to enhance potential capacity in marital life, targeted at marriage expectant couple and verify the effectiveness of the programs. For this study, 8 marriage expectant couples residing in Seoul participated. For this study, advance and follow-up surveys were conducted. To be specific, the advanced surveys questions were posed regarding general features, the level of communication, conflict-resolution skills and the attitude toward the role of the gender and so forth of those persons polled. In follow-up surveys, questions were asked regarding the extent to which the participant was satisfied with the contents of the education and teaching process in each session of the programs, the attitude toward the role of the gender, the level of communication and conflict-resolution skills. The effectiveness of the program was verified based on the subjective level of satisfaction of the instructor and the program manager and the statistical analyses of advance and follow-up surveys. Our findings show: First, the changes in 'the attitude toward the role of the gender' of the participants after 'the education of the role of the gender' were not significantly related. Second, after 'the education of communication' was implemented, the capability of the participants to communicate proved to have improved. Third, the extent to which the participants were satisfied with the contents of the education scored higher than the average, the level of educational satisfaction with 'the skills of communication between the husband and wife' scoring the highest. Fourth, with respect to the level of overall satisfaction with the educational effects of the program, the level of satisfaction with improved relationship between each party of the couple turned out relatively high, and the level of the overall education program also proved to be high.

Considering the present and expected demand for human resources by the maritime community, its quantity and quality depend on the number of the ships and the technology applied to them. Scientific and economic developments in this community bring the intensive use of modem technology for many of ships operation. Generally it effects to reduce the quantity of manpower, while it increases the requirement of qualifications of human resources to utilize such advanced technology. Considering above, the maritime education, training and research activities should be revised and updated according to the demand of the community. Because of a difference between the transition of the demand for the human resources and development of the maritime education, training and research activities, there are two most common questions as “What to teach” and “How to teach”. The first question has been asked for many years. The contents of maritime education and training are always related to the existing maritime knowledge and technology and should be updated with consideration of changes of the demand namely “Globalisation of maritime community”. It brings globalisation of the maritime education, training and research activities. The second question is still keeping us busy to look for the best way. Presently traditional methods are used together with new system, while the use of sophisticated simulation, communication and information systems etc. and it is changing our understanding on teaching. This paper introduces the new role of Maritime Institutions from the viewpoints of the maritime education. training and research activities. The role of guide for seafarers and maritime companies is always essential and the concepts such as “Refreshment Training”, “On the Job Training”, “Lifelong” or “Continuous Training” bring new understanding to the training period, trainee's age and position. As a result, the maritime institutions should be ready for their new role, which is, in brief, guiding the maritime society, recommending and providing new learning environments, organising research and developments, performing the education, training and assessment, improving existing methods and developing new methods of the education, training and assessment.
