It has been said that the level of teacher professionalism determines the quality of education. The same notion allies for gifted education. Therefore, exploration of teacher professionalism in gifted education may provide fundamental bases for raising the quality of gifted education. In this study, first, literature review was conducted to extract elements of teacher professionalism in gifted education and a survey instrument was developed to find out categories of those elements and differences of teacher perception to professionalism at school levels and subject areas of gifted education. Research subjects included 212 teachers who participated in 2005 KEDI teacher training program of gifted education, 60 hour-clock introductory program and 232 teachers who participated in 2005 KEDI teacher training program of gifted education, 120 hour-clock enrichment program. It was found that elements of teacher professionalism in gifted education were categorized into knowledge-based, abilitybased and context-based. It was also found that secondary school teachers' perception to knowledge-based professionalism was significantly higher than those at elementary and science teachers' perception to ability-based and context-based professionalism was significantly higher than mathematics teachers. The research findings may provide insights for better teacher training program in gifted education as well as gifted education policies.
This study aims to draw implications by analyzing the direction of the reorganization of French teacher policy focusing on ESPE which was introduced in 2013 according to the flow of French education reform. When looking at the major changes in the French teacher training system, three revisions have been made over the last 25 years and starting from IUFM introduced in 1991 and through in 2009, ESPE, a new teacher training institute, has been introduced in 2013 and been running. ESPE is an independent professional teacher training institution for educating teachers (from kindergarten to university) as well as education specialists and the understanding of ESPE has a significance in that it can see the direction of reform of French teacher policy in the fact that all advantages of the former system is succeed at maximum and the disadvantages are complemented. When looking at the major reorganization direction of French teacher policy, first, it has strengthened its position as a research teacher by connecting teacher training with the master's degree program. Second, it pursued the balance between theoretical education and field training in teacher training. Third, eligibility criteria of teacher training become diversified and it's downgrading from master degree to bachelor degree. Fourth, teacher training, teacher recruitment exam, master degree in teaching and teacher certification are linked each other. Fifth, teacher training is made in two aspects, teachers as well as education specialists. In conclusion, French teacher policy has a great significance in terms of the fact that the will of reform improving the quality of education ultimately through establishing the status as research teacher and improving the quality of teachers can be seen.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of parent-teacher relationships on mothers' parenting efficacy especially for toddlers. Methods: 225 mothers of toddlers completed questionnaires on parent-teacher relationships and parenting efficacy. This study used technical statistics, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis in order to analyze the collected data. Results: First, there was a significant correlation between parent-teacher relationships and mothers' parenting efficacy. Second, the parent-teacher relationships was an important factor in predicting mothers' parenting efficacy. In particular, when a teacher and mother develop practical collaboration for caring for and educating a child, the mothers' parenting efficacy was higher. Conclusion/Implications: These findings indicate that the parent-teacher relationship is a significant factor in order to improve the quality of parenting. The results especially support the importance of collaboration between teachers and parents and suggest that we need to find practical ways for collaborating in the field. Limitations of this study and implications for future research were discussed.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the mediating effect of teacher's ego resilience in the relationship between the social support of colleague teachers and teacher-child interaction. Methods: A survey was conducted on 181 teachers working at early childhood education institutions located in Gyeonggi and Chungbuk regions. The structural equation model was verified with the Mplus 6.0 program. Results: First, the social support of colleague teachers directly affects teacher's ego-resilience and teacher-child interaction, and teachers ego-resilience has a significant effect on teacher-child interaction. Second, the teachers ego-resilience was found to be partially mediated in the relationship between the social support of fellow teachers and teacher-child interaction. With bootstrapping, the mediating effect of teachers ego-resilience was found to be statistically significant between the social support of colleague teachers and teacher-child interaction. Conclusion/Implications: Social support of fellow teachers plays an important role in the positive expression of teacher-child interaction, and the quality of relationships with children can be further enhanced by promoting teachers ego-resilience that mediates the two variables.
This study investigated the relationship between types of attachment and social adaptation of kindergarten children. Subjects were 108 3-year-old children, their mothers, and their teachers. Results showed that children securely attached to both mother and teacher adapted better than children who were insecurely attached to both mother and teacher. Children who were securely attached to mother but insecurely attached to teacher, and children who were insecurely attached to mother but securely attached to teacher adapted better than children who were insecurely attached to both mother and teacher. This study suggests that the quality of child-mother or child-teacher attachment affects children's social adaptation with the passage of time in kindergarten.
Teaching is delicate, complicated, and demanding work, and especially beginning teachers set forth their difficulties in preparing and implementing mathematics instruction. It is important to ensure the quality of beginning mathematics teachers' instruction above a consistent level because such affirmation justifies the national policy on teacher education as well as the individual efforts of preservice teachers in South Korea. The current study collected mathematics lessons of the two beginning teachers who graduated from the same teacher training institute and worked at the same high school. The findings reported what features their lessons have with regard to the learning environment, engaging students in learning, deepening student learning, and using representations of the edTPA in order to identify what can or cannot be expected in their mathematics instruction. The instruction of the one teacher was assessed middle or more than middle scores throughout the rubrics, but the other one had lower scores. Based on these findings, this study suggested the implications for teacher education in ways of improving the quality of instruction of beginning mathematics teachers.

The quality of teachers is a necessary and sufficient condition for education to accomplish its goals. As informatics education will be taught as a required subject in middle schools starting in 2018, it is more important than anything else to secure high-quality teachers. Accordingly, this study was conducted to compare the informatics teacher education system of Korea with that of Japan in terms of qualifications, licensing and promotion, qualification criteria for teachers, qualifications for informatics teachers and licensing methods. As a result of the comparison three improvements were proposed as follows: The title of the specialized subject must be changed to 'Informatics,' graduate-level education and minor curriculum training courses must be reinforced to enhance the expertise of the teachers, and the qualification system must be changed in such a way as to promote the expertise of the teachers. The improvements proposed in this study will surely contribute to the quality of secondary school informatics teachers.
This study explores the features of sociocultural context of experiment classes taught by a science subject teacher. Two experiment classes on electric circuit for fifth graders were observed and video recorded. The data was also collected through student interviews and teacher interviews. Using the cultural historical activity theory, we extracted the six sociocultural factors and analyzed their interactions. This study could identify that four features of the sociocultural context of the cases. First, the rules of science classes were not decided by the teacher, but formed and modified through the negotiation between the teacher and students or between the students. Second, elementary students played a game, i.e. 'Countdown game', during their electricity experiments, which had both positive and negative influences on science learning. Third, the science teacher feels a limit on life guidance because of the position as a subject teacher in an elementary school. Lastly, although the science teacher had enough time to prepare science classes, there was no guarantee of the improvement of teaching quality. Based on the results of this study, educational implications are discussed in terms of teaching science experiments and of the science subject teacher system.
