Recently a new algorithm which combines advantages of the IMM and IE methods has been suggested. The combined-IMM/IE algorithm could improve the performance to some extent. However, the problem of large increase of tracking error near the maneuver detection due to the sudden maneuver input has not been solved. In this paper, we propose two schemes which can resolve this limitations of combined-IMM/IE algorithm. For illustrations of the performance of the proposed methods. Monte-Carlo simulations are carried out and the results are analyzed.

This paper presents a tracking filter with ship's motion compensation for a ship-borne radar tracking system. The ship's maneuver is described by displacement and rotational motions in the ship-centered east-north frame. The first order Taylor series approximation of the measurement error covariance of the converted measurement is derived in the ship-centered east-north frame. The ship's maneuver is compensated by incorporating the measurement error covariance of the converted measurement and displacement of the position state in the tracking filter. The simulation results via 500 Monte-Carlo runs show that the proposed method follows the target successfully and provides consistent tracking performance during ship's maneuvers while the conventional tracking filter without ship motion compensation fails to track during such periods.

Most of moving targets are modelled as nonlinear dynamic equations. In recent years, the extended Kalman filter is frequently used for estimating their behaviors. The conditional Gaussian filter is more suitable than extended kalman filter in the filtering problem of nonlinear systems. But extended Kalman filter and conditional Gaussian filter often do not give optimal estimates and fail to track target trajectories because of its properties. Therefore it is desirable to use adaptive techniques to adapt target maneuvers. In this paper, we will discuss adaptive filtering technique using innovation process based on extended Kalman filter in real time, and suggest another maneuver estimation method using MRAS technique.
The primary objective of guidance system is to generate suitable commands so that the pursuer comes closer to its target. It is necessary, however, in the guidance of a certain pursuer that the attitude angle at impact should be within a prescribed range in addition to specification on the miss distance. These guidance requirements can not be satisfied by the general guidance laws developed for miss distance minimization. Compared with the demand in many applications, the guidance laws dealing with impact attitude angle constraint are not easily found. In this paper, biased PNG laws are proposed to obtain the guidance purposes. By Lyapunov method, it is shown that the pursuer can intercept the target with a prescribed attitude angle under the assumption that the pursuer is sufficiently fast and the target maneuver is negligible. The simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the suggested guidance laws.
A practical adaptive tracking filter for a maneuvering target is proposed in this paper by combining a modified input estimation technique with pseudo-residuals and a decoupled tracking filter in line-of-sight Cartesian coordinate system. Since the adaptive tracking filter has decoupled structure and computes maneuver input estimates for each axis separately, it requires much less computations compared with the coventional tracking filter with MIE technique without degrading performance. Also, since pseudo-measurement noises in line-of-sight Cartesian coordinate system are much less correlated compared with those of inertial Cartesian coordinate system, the proposed tracking filter produces less false alarms or miss detections to improve the performance.

Modem anti-ship missiles employ complex and sophisticated guidance laws to hit the target and enhance their survivability by executing additional maneuvers. However, such maneuvers may cause the target to move out of the missile seeker's Field-Of-View (FOV). Maintaining seeker lock-on during an engagement is a critical factor for missile guidance. In this paper, a guidance law switching logic that maintains seeker lock-on and a simple guidance law that keeps the target look angle of the seeker constant is proposed. The proposed method can be used for the terminal homing phase, and can be switched from any kind of guidance laws if a proper switching condition is satisfied. The minimum and maximum flight time calculation method in consideration of the missile maneuver limit and the FOV of the seeker is also provided.

In this paper, we propose a new adaptive single model to track a maneuvering target with abrupt accelerations. We utilize the stochastic differential equation to model acceleration of a maneuvering target with stochastic volatility (SV). We assume the generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (GARCH) process as the model for the tracking procedure of the SV. In the proposed scheme, to track a high maneuvering target, we modify the Kalman filtering by introducing a new GARCH model for estimating SV. The proposed tracking algorithm operates in both the non-maneuvering and maneuvering modes, and, unlike the traditional decision-based model, the maneuver detection procedure is eliminated. Furthermore, we stress that the improved performance using the GARCH acceleration model is due to properties inherent in GARCH modeling itself that comply with maneuvering target trajectory. Moreover, the computational complexity of this model is more efficient than that of traditional methods. Finally, the effectiveness and capabilities of our proposed strategy are demonstrated and validated through Monte Carlo simulation studies.
Maneuvering targets are difficult to track for the Kalman filter since the target model of tracking filter might not fit the real target trajectory and the statistical characteristics of the target maneuver are unknown in advance. In order to track such a highly maneuvering target, several schemes have been proposed and improved the tracking performance in some extent. Among those tracking schemes the Input Estimation (IE), Variable Dimension (VD) and Turning Acceleration Estimator (TAE) became popular. However, so far their tracking performances were analyzed individually and were not compared. In this paper, the tracking performances of the typical IE, VD and TAE schemes for a maneuvering target are compared. Monte-Carlo Simulations for three maneuvering profiles are carried out and the results are analyzed towards practical applications.
As a part of target motion analysis(TMA) with highly noisy bearings-only measurements from a passive sonar system, a nonlinear batch estimator is proposed to provide the initial estimates to a sequential estimator called the modified gain extended Kalman filter(MGEKF). Based on the system observability analysis of passive target tracking, a practical and effective method is suggested to determine the observer maneuvers for improved TMA performance through system observability enhancing. Also suggested is a method to determine observer location for enhanced system observability at the initial phase of TMA from various engagement boundaries which represent the relationship between observer-target relative geometrical data and system observability. The proposed TMA methods are tested by a series of computer simulation runs.

An infrared seeking missile does not emit any signal by itself as it is guided by passive heat signature from an aircraft. Therefore, it is difficult for the target aircraft to notice the existence of incoming missile, making it a serious threat. The usage of MAW(missile approach warning) that can notify the approaching infrared seeking missile is currently limited due to its high cost. Furthermore, effectiveness of MAW against infrared seeking missile is not available in open literature. Therefore, effect of evasive maneuver by MAW on the survivability of the aircraft is simulated to evaluate the benefit of the MAW in this research. The lethal range is used as a measure of aircraft survivability. An aircraft flying at an altitude of 5km with Mach 0.9 being tracked by air-launched AIM-9 infrared seeking missile is considered in this research. As a variable for the evasive maneuver, the MAW recognition distance of 5~7km and the G-force of 3~7G that limits maximum directional change of the aircraft are considered. Simulation results showed that the recognition of incoming missile by MAW and following evasive maneuver can reduce the lethal range considerably. Maximum reduction in lethal range is found to be 29.4%. Also, the MAW recognition distance have a greater importance than the aircraft maneuverability that is limited by structural limit of the aircraft.
