  • According to the improvement of the HTS wires performance, several types of HTS superconducting machines are being developed. Stacked HTS tapes are used to conduct the current of the HTS power machines. To develop the HTS power machines, the critical current characteristics of a stacked HTS tapes in external field need be examined. In this paper, we present effect of the external magnetic field on the critical current of HTS stacked tapes. The critical current of various Hinds of multi-stacked HTS tapes in external magnetic filed are compare with that of a single HTS tape. Test results show that critical current of single HTS tape is smaller than that of multi-stacked HTS tape in the external field.

  • Superconducting joints between Bi-2223/Ag tapes are fabricated by a press & reaction anneal and a multiple press & anneal. The silver sheath was mechanically or chemically removed from one side of each tape without altering the superconducting core. The exposed superconducting core of the two tapes were brought into contact and pressed so as to form a lap joint. The joined tapes were then subjected to a series of different thermomechanical treatments to achieve optimum heat treatment condition. The result from transport measurements shows that critical current ($I_c$) transmitting through joined area reaches 9A, approximately 60% of the current capacity of the tapes themselves. The critical current through joined area was improved by repeated press and reaction annealing. Measurements of the current-voltage relationship were made with several configuration of the voltage probes to characterize the critical current variation and I-V curve along the joint. Also discussed are microstructural aspects of the superconducting joint.

  • Evaluation of the mechanical properties of Bi-2223/Ag HTS tapes was carried out by the tension and bending tests. Most of the Bi-2223/Ag tapes retained critical current up to 10 kgf/mm$_2$ axial tension stress, and 0.2% tension strain at room temperature. Applied tension strain exceeding 0.3% in superconducting tapes at 77 K leaded to rapid degradation of the critical current. It was observed that the more filaments, the better axial tension property at 77 K, self-field The influence of bending strain on critical current degradation was revealed to be less sensitive for Bi-2223/Ag HTS tapes with a more number of filaments and higher silver ratio.

  • $100 A/mm^2$ class Bi-2223 tapes have recently become commercially available. Some important characteristics of the tapes, e .g. critical current, ac loss, characteristics at joint, fault current characteristics, are required for an application such as a power cable or a power transformer. In this paper they have been investigated experimentally. The results indicate that the self-field loss of the high current density tapes is not negligible, compared to resistive loss in a copper wire for the same currents. In a cable, the self-field loss for relatively large currents is much larger than the magnetization loss due to an external field. But in a transformer, the magnetization loss is dominant, compared to the self-field loss. Finally the fault current characteristics show that the high current density tapes are never safe from burn-out even for fault currents with a few cycles.

  • For the fast dry of the aqueous tape, the process which water was replaced by organic solvent was proposed. So-called, it was the solvent washing dry, Three organic solvents (methanol, ethanol, and acetone) were selected for the washing solvent. The weight loss of the washed tapes was measured to evaluate the dry rate of the tapes and dried tapes were examined the generation of the cracks with the variations of the organic solvent and the washing time. Methanol, ethanol, and acetone were all available organic solvents for this method. The tapes washed in methanol, ethanol, and acetone were dried rapidly for twenty minutes. After thirty minutes, the weight losses were not any more. The solvent of the lower surface tension can decreases the crack of dried tape. If solvent substitutes water completely, though it was fast dried, crack can be eliminated. The tape casting system was designed for the solvent washing dry and prepared. An homogeneous tape was established by continuous tape casting process.

  • Many of research efforts have been focused on the improvement of critical current density Jc of silver-sheathed Bi-2223 tapes for practical applications of material. Bi-2223 superconducting wires with 55 filaments were fabricated by stacking, drawing process with different heat-treatment histories. After rolling process, Bi-2223 tapes were heat-treatment at 780~826$^{\circ}C$ with variable mass flow rate of mixed gas. In this study, the effect of changes in the variable mass flow rate of mixed gas during the heat treatment of Bi-2223/Ag tapes has been investigated. Distinct differences were observed in the Bi-2223 phase and critical current as flow rate of mixed gas. We could achieve proper conditions of mass flow rate of mixed gas for Ag-alloy clad Bi-2223 superconducting tapes.

  • The effect of axial strain and thermal cycling on the critical current is investigated for the Bi-2223/Ag PIT tapes. The axial strain was applied to the tapes by the U-shape sample holder. Two kinds of Bi-2223/Ag tapes with different Ag sheath are used to know the effect of sheath alloying for the tensile strain. The influence of thermal cycling between room temperature and 77 K on critical current are examined. Critical current is drastically decreased for Ag/alloy and Ag/alloy/alloy sheathed tapes at tensile strain above 0.22% and 0.3%, respectively.

  • Effects of compound factors (temperature , salinity and turbidity 0 on Tapes philippinarum are as follows : 1. At 3 and 6 hours , critical temperature of 0.9-1.05 mm size is 38$^{\circ}C$ and 7.5-8.5mm, 23-25 mm exist between 35$^{\circ}C$ and 41$^{\circ}C$. 2. The main limiting factor of three combined factors is temperature. The effect on the survival of Tapes philippinarum is as follows : Temperature > salinity > turbidity. 3. In the worst condition, treatment time is also an important factor. Mortality is higher at 6 hour treatment than 3 hour. 4. We observed 39$^{\circ}C$ of water temperature at Tapes bed of Inchon in July 1965. Compared with experimental results, we are able to suppose that the mortality will be occurred at high degrees in the natural state. 5. As the size of the individual is increased , the survival rate is increased as well.

  • In this study, we fabricated Bi-2223/Ag high temperature superconducting tapes using PIT (Powder-In-Tube) process to apply the superconducting magnet, cable and etc. It's inevitable to deform the superconducting tapes with axial strain for application. Therefore, for the characterization of the strain sensitivity of the superconducting properties, the degradation of Bi-2223/Ag tapes due to axial strain were investigated by measuring the critical current as a function of applied tension strain and external magnetic field. The critical current of Bi-2223/Ag tapes were decreased slightly up to 0.3∼0.4% applied strain but, drastically decreased more than these strains. Superconducting filament cores consisted of brittle ceramic fibers were broken easily by the large strain and current path were decreased simultaneously.

  • In this study, the effect of bending strain on the transport property and critical current of lap and butt-jointed (non-laminated) BSCCO tapes has been investigated. The samples were joined using a mechanically controlled jointing procedure. To achieve a uniform thickness at the joint a single point loading contact has been devised. GFRP mandrels with different bending radii which support the sample during bending have been used. $I_c$ have been measured at 77 K and self field. In the case of easy bending test for jointed BSCCO tapes, sudden degradation of $I_c$ is caused by the local strain concentration due to non uniform deformation at the edge parts of the joint. In the case of hard bending test of jointed BSCCO tapes transverse macroscopic crack at specific subsection caused a large $I_c$ degradation. The transport property of jointed BSCCO tapes in each bending mode was discussed with the damage morphology occurred.
