Four kinds of decoctions (Wolbi-tang, Wolbigachul-tang, Wolbigabanha-tang and Wolbi-tang with Psyllium Husk diet)was prescribed to examined the therapeutic effects on hyperlipidemia. Four decoctions prepared from the prescriptions were respectively administrated to the corpulent rats induced by a high cholesterol diet. Wolbi-tang mollified the increasing rate of the body weight, and decreased the amount of food eaten. It slightly increased the concentrations of blood Tc, blood TG, blood FFA, and lipids in feces, and decreased the contents of blood HDL-c. Wolbigachul-tang mollified the increasing rate of the body weight, and decreased the amount of food eaten. It decreased the amount of FFA and HDL-c lipids in the blood. Wolbigabanha-tang mollified the increasing rate of the body weight, and decreased the amount of food eaten. Also, it decreased the concentrations of blood glucose. However, it increased the content of blood HDL-c. Wolbi-tang with Psyllium Husk diet mollified the increasing rate of body weight, and decreased the amount of food eaten. Also, it slightly decreased the concentrations of blood TG and blood FFA, but increased the concentrations of blood Tc. Considering the above results, four kinds of decoctions(Wolbi-tang, Wolbigachul-tang, Wolbigabanha-tang and Wolbi-tang with Psyllium Husk diet) could be applied for the treatment of obesity, and Wolbigabanha-tang would be the most recommendable among them.

Objectives : To evaluate the effectiveness of oriental complex therapy with $Dokhwalgisaeng-tang$($Duhuojisheng-tang$) $Gamibang$ on the lumbago patient. Methods : 13 lumbago patients were treated with $Dokhwalgisaeng-tang$($Duhuojisheng-tang$) $Gamibang$, acupunture, moxibustion, pharmacopuncture, cupping, oriental physical therapy and exercise for lumbago. ODI(Oswestry diability index), ROM(range of motion), pain self assessment were checked to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment. Results : ODI, pain self assessment and ROM were all improved but there were no statistical significance except pain self assessment($p$<0.001). Coclusions : Oriental complex therapy with $Dokhwalgisaeng-tang$($Duhuojisheng-tang$) $Gamibang$ might improve low back pain.

In order to investigate pharmacological actions of combined preparations of crude drugs, 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' were studied. The 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' using abdominal pain and convulsion of pediatric diseases are composed of Glycyrrhizae Radix and Paeoniae Radix alba. This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang'(S-I) and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang'(S-II) on anticonvulsive, analgesic, antipyretic and sedative actions. The results of this study were summarized as follows; Both 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' showed anticonvulsive effects against convulsions induced by strychnine, picrotoxine and caffeine. 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' and parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' also showed analgesic and antipyretic effects. Parched 'Jakyakgamcho-Tang' only prolonged the duration of hypnosis induced by sodium pentobarbital.

Object : This study was designed to investigate the effects of Chungganhaeju-tang (Qingganjiejiu-tang) on cytotoxicity, growth inhibition, apoptosis and expression of cytokine in damaged HepG2 cells. Method : Toxicity on HepG2 cell induced by ethanol and acetaldehyde was measured for viability, cell growth, DNA replication and generation of apoptosis and cytokine. The recovery of the cell activity by Chungganhaeju-tang was estimated for the measured parameters using PCR with different cycle numbers, DNA gel-electrophoresis, and densitometric analysis, Results : Chungganhaeju-tang improves the recovery of HepG2 cells damaged by ethanol or acetaldehyde. The suppressed DNA synthesis of the cell damaged by ethanol or acetaldehyde is improved by Chungganhaeju-tang. A liver-protection effect was shown by the reduction of apoptosis and $TNF-{\alpha},{\;}IL-1{\beta}$ expressions that are induced by ethanol or acetaldehyde. Conclusion : The result indicates that Chungganhaeju-tang reduces toxicity induced by ethanol or acetaldehyde and recovers damaged liver function.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of Gamichunggan-tang(Jiaweiqinggan-tang) on 57 patients who have suffered from chronic liver disease. Methods : Gamichunggan-tang(Jiaweiqinggan-tang) was administered to patients for over 2 months continuously. We checked improvement of clinical symptoms, changes of Hepatitis B markers and lymphocyte count. Results : Gamichunggan-tang(Jiaweiqinggan-tang) has significant effect on the improvement of clinical symptoms. And the ratio of seroconversion from HBeAg positive to HBeAg negative was 42.9%. Lymphocyte increased in 83.3% of patients converted to HBeAg negative. Conclusions : It is suggested that Gamichunggan-tang(Jiaweiqinggan-tang) has significant effects on the recovery of weakened liver function and immune modulation. This treatment could be recommened as a prescription for Chronic liver disease.

The major objective of this study is provide to basic data for developing of new Sangye-Tang products. The findings from this study are as follow. Consumers over half were thought Samgye-Tang products to be good for health. At the eating place of Samgye-Tang products, \"at home\" ranked high in their groups. Also consumers have eaten Samgye-Tang products for the good of their health. On the developing functional Samgye-Tang products, respondents over 80% showed that it is desirable to develop functional Samgye-Tang products. And it is indicated that consumers want to strengthen the physical stamina in the new Samgye-Tang products. Price is the most important factor in selecting the new Samghye-Tang products. In packaging, consumers have preferred retort pouch.

Objective : We investigated the effects of BOM Gunbisoyeom-tang(Jianbixiaoyan-tang) Gamibang having prescribed clinically to patients with perennial allergic rhinitis. Methods : We prescribed BOM Gunbisoyeom-tang(Jianbixiaoyan-tang) Gamibang for 1 month to 77 patients visiting to KimKiJoon Orentalclinic BOM from January 1 to December 31, 2008 with perennial allergic rhinitis and analysised the questionnaire(symptom severity assessment) before and after treatment. Results : BOM Gunbisoyeom-tang(Jianbixiaoyan-tang) Gamibang improved significantly all nosal symptoms(sneezing, runny nose, congestion, itchy nose and postnasal drip), some non-nasal symptoms(eye and throat symptoms, headache and mental function) except chromic cough and ear symptoms and quality of life. Conclusion : BOM Gunbisoyeom-tang(Jianbixiaoyan-tang) Gamibang cured effectively patients with perennial allergic rhinitis by 1 month treatment but not perfectly. So further studies are needed for treatment duration and changes of pathological index before and after treatment.

This study is consider·ed about the relation or costume among Parhae, ancient Japan and Tang and the culture of this time commonly was influenced by Tang;s culture. The recorded items, which were exchanged from Parhae to Tang and ancient Japan, are the pelt of marten, seal, bear and tiger skin or Ammowhaha(암모화) Gu(구) and so on. Other items from Tang and ancient Japan to Parhae are various clothes and material like silk and so on. This Parhae's clothes made with leather obtained through hunting were the main product of Parhae and had been greatly famous in Tang and ancient Japan. At that time, Tang and ancient Japan had been only dependent on the agricultural life but had not been accustomed to the hunting life, and thereupon, the people in Tang and Nara Era had difficulties to get leather clothes. Accordingly, the leather products stood for the rich, and the people who purchased the leather products from Parhae were recognized as the rich. On the other hand, The prince and the royal family in Parhae were dispatched to Tang as Sooktwui(숙위). They paid a tribute to Tang and In return for it, Tang gave to Sookwui as well as to Parhae's envoys various items and clothes such as Po(포), belt(대), gold and silver Eodae(어대) and textile like a type of silk. These clothes were considered as the formal uniform like Kwanbok(관복) of Parhae. Specially, the time when Sookwui was sent to Tang rot-responded with the time when Tang gave formal uniform to Parhae's envoys. Therefore, we can confirm that the sending of Sookwui influenced to form uniform system of Parhae. In this exchange relation, there were several duplicated items showed, for example Po(포)-belt(대), Eui set(의일습), Eoeui(어의), Jobok(조복), Go(고). These items in Parhae were appeared in process of exchanging from Tang to Japan and from Tang to Parhae. At that time, the exchanges between Tang and Parhae were frequently active much more than those between Tang and Japan, and the acceptance of the culture from Tang was easier in Parhae than Japan in consideration of the geographical location. Therefore, those clothes could be understood as the items already used in Parhae and affected from Tang. These items in Parhae were appeared in process of exchanging from Tang to Japan and from Japan to Parhae. As a result, it is expected that the costumes, which Parhae took from Japan, are the same as those of Tang.

An experimental study was done to examine the effects of Dokwhaljiwhang-tang on gastro-intestinal track and central nervous system and were undertaken by being carried out with rat. The following results have been obtained ; 1. Dokwhaljiwhang-tang showed to have an inhibitory effect on the smooth muscle contraction of the isolated ileum by acetylcholene chloride and barium chloride. 2. Dokwhaljiwhang-tang showed to have an inhibitory effect on the contraction of the gastric fundus-strip by acetylcholine chloride and barium chloride. 3. The preventive effect was recognized on the pylorus-ligated ulcer, by administration of Dokwhaljiwhang-tang. 4. The preventive effect was not recognized on the indomethacine -induced ulcer, by administration of Dokwhaljiwhang-tang. 5. The inhibitory effects on the secretion gastric juice, free acidity were recognized, by administration of Dokwhaljiwhang-tang 6. The transport ability in the small intestine was increased, by administration of Dokwhaljiwhang-tang. 7. The transport ability in the large intestine was increased, by administration of Dokwhaljiwhang-tang. 8. The analgesic effect was recognized, by administration of Dokwhaljiwhang-tang. 9. The effect of sleeping time was not recognized, by administration of Dokwhaljiwhang-tang. according to the results, it is considered that Dokwhaljiwhang-tang has effects of gastric ulcer, chronic gastritis,hyper-acidity, gastroptosis such as abdominal discomfort, gastric acid, indigestion and anorexia.

Objectives : Palmul-tang(Bawu-tang) has been traditionally prescribed a medicine as a restorative. Methods : In this study, we investigated the acute toxicity about water-extracted PalMul-tang(Bawu-tang). Twenty-five mice completed 14 days of oral Palmul-tang(Bawu-tang) at the respective doses of 0(control group), 2560, 3200, 4000 and 5000mg/kg. Results : We observed survival rates, general toxicity, change of body weight, and autopsy. Conclusions : To be confirmed the data for the toxicity and safety problems of oriental medicine prescription. Compared with the control group, we could not find any toxic alteration in all treated groups (2560, 3200, 4000 and 5000mg/kg). In conclusion, LD50 of Palmul-tang(Bawu-tang) was over 5000mg/kg and it is very safe to ICR mice.
