  • To consider improvement effect of the bearing capacity and economical efficiency in using the geotextile, on foundation reinforced with the geotextile, several experiments accomplished by the plate-penetrometer on a model foundation. The results obtained are as follows : 1. It appears that the BCR is increased steeply only to 3 layers of the geotextile but nearly isn't more than 3 layers. 2. It appears that the BCR is increased during the U/D's increment but the variations of it nearly isn't more than U/D=0.8. 3. It appears that the BCR is increased steeply to the value of ${\Delta}Z/D$=0.6 but variations of it nearly isn't more than 0.6. 4. It appears that the BCR is decreased almost proportionally to the value of B/D= 2.5 but it's ratio of decrease is decreased remarkably more than 2.5.

  • A modified model combining Kriging and Monte Carlo method (MC) is proposed for probabilistic estimation of tunnel face stability in this paper. In the model, a novel uniform design is adopted to train the Kriging, instead of the existing active learning function. It has advantage of avoiding addition of new training points iteratively, and greatly saves the computational time in model training. The kinematic approach of limit analysis is employed to define the deterministic computational model of face failure, in which the Hoek-Brown failure criterion is introduced to account for the nonlinear behaviors of rock mass. The trained Kriging is used as a surrogate model to perform MC with dramatic reduction of calls to actual limit state function. The parameters in Hoek-Brown failure criterion are considered as random variables in the analysis. The failure probability is estimated by direct MC to test the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed probabilistic model. The influences of uncertainty level, correlation relationship and distribution type of random variables are further discussed using the proposed approach. In summary, the probabilistic model is an accurate and economical alternative to perform probabilistic stability analysis of tunnel face excavated in spatially random Hoek- Brown media.

  • Analysis model for the two-phase catalytic reactor is presented. With the progress in development of micro thermofluidic devices, needs fur understanding of the phenomena in two phase reaction in cm scale has been arisen. To investigate thermal and reactive performance of down scaled two phase reactor simple analysis model that is a kind of lumped flow model is proposed. Analysis model presented is based on the experiment on mm scale model reactor. Target experiment is catalytic decomposition of 70wt% hydrogen peroxide with existence of perovskite L $a_{0.8}$S $r_{0.2}$Co $O_3$ catalyst. It is composed of balance equations of mass and energy. Each phase is considered to be a species fur the simplicity. Axial diffusion and transversal distribution of properties are neglected. Two phase catalytic reaction is modeled as successive gasification of liquid lump around catalyst and reaction in gas phase. Heat transfer is modeled by model function ofNu number. Modeled Nu is expressed as Nu=N $u_{0}$ (1+ $a_1$( $a_2$ $T^{-}$ $a_3$)exp( $a_4$ $T^{-1}$)exp( $a_{5}$ z). Transfer coefficients are determined by the comparison of experimental results. With the model, heat transfer characteristics are investigated. Also by the mass transfer coefficient, characteristics in mass transfer is investigated. With the result basic understanding on design and analysis of mm scale two-phase reactive device is obtained. Also it can be further applied to micro scale reactive device fabricated by micromachining.ing..

  • By depicting the transfer of heat and combustion reaction to take place within thin gas layers close to the propellant surface burning in a steady-state fashion, a mathematical equation has been deduced to describe the burning rate of solid propellant as a function of initial grain temperature and chamber pressure. It has been also assumed that chemical reaction could take place in premixing-diffusing zone but were carried out mainly in the reaction-flame zone. All these phenomena taken place in each zone of combustion have been assumed to be steady-state. In the present investigation, the equation, γ=$\kappa$$.$(1/R(T(sub)i+C))(sup)n$.$exp(-E(sub)a/R(T(sub)i+C))(P/z) is being presented and it is compared with experimental data. The proposed model has been tested and evaluated vis-a-vis strand burner data for three different propellants based on CTPB, and it has been found that the deviation of the computed burning rates from the measured rates ranged up to 2%.

  • New methods of nano sized material and composite coating preparations have been considered on the base of mathematical model of abrasion reaction interaction of milling and grinding bodies in planetary centrifugal mill. The essence of the method is the abrasive and oxidative wear of the milling bodies and amorphous (better inert) additives. Interactions between them has been supplied the necessary impulse of pressure and temperature on the impact frictional contacts and promoted chemical processes. The offered method can find application for such processing as sintering and geological minerals opening.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of tooth bleaching agent contained 15% carbamide peroxide on the color, microhardness and surface roughness of tooth-colored restorative materials by using pH cycling model. Methods : Four types of tooth-colored restorative materials, including a composite resin(Filtek Z350 ; Z350), a flowable composite resin(Filtek P60 : P60), a compomer(Dyract$^{(R)}$ AP ; DY), and a glass-ionomer cement(KetacTM Molar Easymix ; KM). were used in the study. Eighty-eight specimens of each material were fabricated, randomly divided into two groups(n=44): experimental group(15% carbamide peroxide) and control group(distilled water). These groups were then divided into four subgroups(n=11). All groups were bleached 4 hours per day for 14 days using pH cycling model. The authors measured the color, microhardness, and roughness of the specimens before and after bleaching. The data were analyzed with ANOVA and T-test. Results : Z350 and P60 showed a slight color change(${\Delta}E^*$), whereas DY and KM showed significantly color change(p<0.05). Among them, the greatest color change was observed in DY. Percentage microhardness loss(PML) of the distilled water group was 1.8 to 5.1%, and 15% peroxide peroxide group was 5.0 to 25.2%. Microhardness of DY and KM showed a statistically significant decrease(p<0.05). Roughness was increased in all groups after bleaching. Z350 and P60 does not have a significant difference(p>0.05), however DY and KM significantly increased more than the 0.2 ${\mu}m$(p<0.05). Conclusions : The effects of bleaching on restorative materials were material dependent. It is necessary to consider the type of the material before starting the treatment.

  • Dimension analysis was used to estimate biomass and net primary production(NPP) in a 36-year-old Japanese red pine (Pines densiflora S. et Z.) natural forest in Kangwondo. Best estimation was made by the equation model of $Wt=aD^bH^c$ where Wt is weight in kg, D is DBH in cm, and H is total tree height in m. Total aboveground biomass was estimated at 198.82 t/ha. Organic matter was distributed in the Japanese red pine stand as follows ; bolewood 68.8%, live branches 16.5%, bolebark 5.4%, foliage 4.6%, dead branches 3.7%, and cones 0.6%. Net primary production was estimated at 15.87 t/㏊/yr and was distributed: bolewood 44.5%, live branches 30.9%, foliage 14.1%, current twig 7.1%, and bolebark 3.3%. Leaf efficiency was estimated at 1.876. The power equation for biomass and IVPP yielded similar results as the results for Pines densiflora in Japan.

  • We consider the partially linear model E(Y) : X$^{t}$ $\beta$+η(Z) when the X's are measured with additive error. The semiparametric likelihood estimation ignoring the measurement error gives inconsistent estimator for both $\beta$ and η(.). In this paper we suggest the SIMEX estimator for f to correct the bias induced by measurement error, and explore its properties. We show that the rational linear extrapolant is proper in extrapolation step in the sense that the SIMEX method under this extrapolant gives consistent estimator It is also shown that the SIMEX estimator is asymptotically equivalent to the semiparametric version of the usual parametric correction for attenuation suggested by Liang et al. (1999) A simulation study is given to compare two variance estimating methods for SIMEX estimator.
