  • The recovery time of developing SFCL(Superconducting Fault Current Limiter) has an uncertainty. In general, the recovery time is estimated at 1 sec and more, even though the Process of SFCL technology is considered. However, auto reclosing time of circuit breaker is 0.3 sec in Korean power system. It is impossible to apply only one SFCL to power system because the recovery time is over the reclosing time of protection system. This study proposes two new SFCL systems for power system application. The proposed systems consider auto reclosing action for the protection in practical power system and consist of tow parallel SFCLS.

  • In this paper, neural network-supervisory control method is proposed to minimize the effect of system uncertainty by load change and disturbance in the PID control system. In the proposed method, PID controller performs main control action by performing control within constraint error. And neural network-supervisory controller performs control action when error reaches the boundary of constraint error. Combining neural network-supervisory controller to guarantee the stability into PID control system, the resulting PID control system is expected to show better performance in the system with load change and disturbance. Simulation applying PID controller and neural network-supervisory controller showed excellence of proposed method.

  • A successful, computer-aided design support system can help a process designer focus on making effective design decisions, not merely tedious routine calculations. Such a system is essential to enhance quality of design in terms of economics, environmental benignity, reliability, robustness, and operability. Such a statement is even more accepted when applied to conceptual design problems, where gross design specifications are given while a combinatorial number of design alternatives exists. This paper presents an agent-based approach as a systematic and efficient way to design a design support system for the synthesis of conceptual chemical processes. An agent-based approach allows us to handle design knowledge as an object and thus greatly improve the modularity and reusability of that knowledge. Such modularity and reusability lead to the increased productivity in the development of a design support system and the increased ease in the relaxation of design decisions and the generation of design alternatives, both of which functions are critically important in dealing with the complexity and uncertainty of conceptual design problems.

  • In this paper, using $\mu$ synthesis algorithm with structured uncertainty, we design controller and apply it for the Two-Inertia resonance(TMS: Two Mass Spring) system. The TMS system is one of the simplest models which generate a torsional vibration. In this system, it is required to design a controller achieving the control performance while suppressing the torsional vibration. Furthermore, when vibration frequency for the system is varying by reason of parameter variations, we should consider parameter variations in controller design. Then, we design two other controller schemes of the PI controller and the standard $H_{\infty}$ controller and compare these controllers with the controller designed by the $\mu$ synthesis robust control method by using simulations and experiments.

  • This paper outlines a framework for a diagnosis of a complex system with uncertain information. Sensor validation ploys a vital role in the ability of the overall system to correctly determine the state of a system monitored by imperfect sensors. Here, emphases are put on the heuristic technology and post-processor for reasoning. Heuristic Sensor Validation (HSV) exploits deeper knowledge about parameter interaction within the plant to cull sensor faults from the data stream. Finally the modified probability distributions and validated data are used as input to the reasoning scheme which is the runtime version of the influence diagram. The output of the influence diagram is a diagnostic mapping from the symptoms or sensor readings to a determination of likely failure modes. Once likely failure modes are identified, a detailed diagnostic knowledge base suggests corrective actions to improve performance. This framework for a diagnostic expert system with sensor validation and reasoning under uncertainty applies in $HEATXPRT^{TM}$ a data-driven on-line expert system for diagnosing heat rate degradation problems in fossil power plants [1].

  • This paper designs a noise controller for the small cavity using Coefficient Diagram Method(CDM). In the small cavity system, there exist nonlinear characteristics such as uncertain-time delay and parameter variation. In the controller design of nonlinear system with uncertainty need to the higher order controller or complexity computation. The coefficient diagram is convenient implementation of the control system design method, that is utilized as a vehicle to collectively express the important features of the system and an improved version Kessler's standard form and the Lipatov stability condition of a constitutes the theoretical basis. Simultaneously, it is provided a desired specification, such as the robustness, the stability, faster response, and lower order controller. A simulation of the system with the proposed controller shows sufficient noise cancelation in small cavity.

  • This paper presents the interactive behavior modeling method based on POMDP (Partially Observable Markov Decision Process) for HRI (Human-Robot Interaction). HRI seems similar to conversational interaction in point of interaction between human and a robot. The POMDP has been popularly used in conversational interaction system. The POMDP can efficiently handle uncertainty of observable variables in conversational interaction system. In this paper, the input variables of the proposed conversational HRI system in POMDP are the input information of sensors and the log of used service. The output variables of system are the name of robot behaviors. The robot behavior presents the motion occurred from LED, LCD, Motor, sound. The suggested conversational POMDP-based HRI system was applied to an emotional robot KIBOT. In the result of human-KIBOT interaction, this system shows the flexible robot behavior in real world.

  • This paper presents adaptive fuzzy controller which is uncertainty or unknown variation in different parameters with nonlinear system of helicopter. The proposed adaptive fuzzy controller applied TSK(Takagi-Sugeno-Kang) fuzzy system which is not only low number of fuzzy rule, and a linear input-output equation with a constant term, but also can represent a large class of nonlinear system with good accuracy. The adaptive law was designed by using Lyapunov stability theory. The adaptive fuzzy controller is a model reference adaptive controller which can adjust the parameter $\theta$ so that the plant output tracks the reference model output. First of all, system of helicopter was considered as stopping state, and design of controller was simulated from dynamics equation with stopping state. Results show that it is controlled more successfully with a model reference adaptive controller than with a non-adaptive fuzzy controller when there is a modelling error between system and model or a continuous added noise in such unstable system.

  • This paper presents a new analytical method for assessing outage cost of composite power system with considering transmission system uncertainty. Composite power system ELDC(CMELDC) was developed and proposed from reliability evaluation of composite power system in order to analysis the outage cost on HLII. In this study, considering the characteristic of each load point, the CMELDC was used for outage cost assessment and reliability evaluation at each load point. The characteristics and effectiveness of this methodology are illustrated by the case study (IEEE-RTS 24Buses).
