Speech Feature Extraction Based on the Human Hearing Model

  • In this paper, we propose the method that extracts the speech feature using the hearing model through signal processing techniques. The proposed method includes the following procedure ; normalization of the short-time speech block by its maximum value, multi-resolution analysis using the discrete wavelet transformation and re-synthesize using the discrete inverse wavelet transformation, differentiation after analysis and synthesis, full wave rectification and integration. In order to verify the performance of the proposed speech feature in the speech recognition task, korean digit recognition experiments were carried out using both the DTW and the VQ-HMM. The results showed that, in the case of using DTW, the recognition rates were 99.79% and 90.33% for speaker-dependent and speaker-independent task respectively and, in the case of using VQ-HMM, the rate were 96.5% and 81.5% respectively. And it indicates that the proposed speech feature has the potential for use as a simple and efficient feature for recognition task

Predictors of School Adjustment among Multicultural Children: Systematic Review (다문화 아동의 학교적응 예측요인에 대한 체계적 문헌고찰)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to synthesize related studies and identify the predictors of school adjustment among multicultural children. Methods: The author searched Google Scholar, RISS, KISS, Naver Academic, NDSL, and the National Assembly Library databases from August 1 to August 8, 2016. Keywords included multicultural, adolescents, school life, and school adjustment. Results: Twenty two studies, from 3,645 screened references, were included and finally analyzed. All studies were prospective studies and used regression analysis. The predictors of school adjustment among multicultural children were children's personal factors and social factors. Children's personal factors consisted of general factors, psychosocial factors, and situational factors. Social factors consisted of parental factors, family factors, teacher factors, and peer factors. Conclusion: The findings suggest that consideration of social factors as well as personal factors of multicultural children, their family, teacher, and peers is needed to improve school adjustment of multicultural children.

Studies on the Oxide Bonded Silicon Carbide Porous Materials (산화물 결합 탄화규소 다공질 소재에 관한 연구)

  • Silicon carbide porous materials used for hot gas filters were prepared using oxide binder. Chamotte, frit and H3PO4 were starting materials to synthesize the oxide binder for high temperature-use. Room temperature bending strength of the silicon carbide porous body was increased with increasing firing temprature or with the amount of the content of frit in the oxide binder. However, in the oxidebinder fired above132$0^{\circ}C$, cristobalite form of AlPO4 phase which undergoes rapid inversion became more prominent with increasing firing time. the average pore size of the silicon carbide filter materials was found to be about one third of the average grain size of the silicon carbide powder used in this study.

Nanocomposite Ni-CGO Synthesized by the Citric Method as a Substrate for Thin-film IT-SOFC

  • Ni-ceria cermets have been extensively investigated as candidates for the anode in intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells. We have used the citric method to synthesize nanocomposite powders consisting of NiO (Ni metal content: $40{\sim}60%$ by volume) highly dispersed in $Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{1.95}$ (CGO). The microstructure characteristics and sintering behaviors of the nanocomposites were investigated. No impurity phases were observed and the shrinkage of these substrates matched well with that of a CGO electrolyte with a specific surface area of $11\;m^2/g$. Densification of the CGO electrolyte layer to $<5\;{\mu}m$ thickness was achieved by co-firing the laminated electrolyte with the porous NiO-CGO substrate at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 6 h.

  • A neural network method is applied for recognizing the orientation o f individual parts being fed from a bowl feeder. The system is designed in such a way that a part can be discriminated and sorting according to every possible stable orientation without implementing any a mechanical tooling. The operation of the bowl feeder is based on a 2D image obtained from an array of fiber optic sensor located on the feeder track. The acquired binary image of a moving and vibrating part is used as input to a neural network which, in turn, determines t he orientation of the part. The main task of the neural network, here is to synthesize the appropriate internal discriminant functions for the part orientation using the part features. A series of the experiments reveals several promising points on performance. Since the operation of the feeder is highly programmable, it is well suited for feeding and sorting small parts prior to small batch assembly work.

  • The structure of chemical process has become increasingly complex, due to better management of energy and raw materials. As a consequence, the design of control systems for complete plants now constitutes the focal point of engineering interest, rather than controller designs for single processing units. Instead of traditional methods based on complex mathematical model, chemical processes are represented by structural array and cause-and-effect graph to apply non-numerical problem-solving techniques. A systematic logical procedure to synthesize alternatives of control system structure and some heuristic rules to select a feasible solution from the vast number of alternatives that are possible are considered in this study.

  • As the packing density of ICs in recent submicron IC design increases, interconnects gain importance. Because interconnects directly affect on two major components of circuit performance, power dissipation and operating speed, circuit engineers are concerned with the optimal design of interconnects and the aid tool to design them. When circuit models of interconnects are given (including geometry and material information), the analysis process for the given structure is not an easy task, but conversely, it is much more difficult to design an interconnect structure with given circuit characteristics. This paper focuses on the latter process that has not been foucsed on much till now due to the complexity of the problem, and prsents a design aid tool(DATOIS) to synthesize interconnects. this tool stroes the circuit performance parameters for normalized interconnect geometries, and has two oeprational modes:analysis mode and synthesis mode. In the analysis mode, circuit performance parameters are obtained by searching the internal database for a given geometry and interpolates results if necessary . In thesynthesis mode, when a given circuit performance parameter satisfies a set of geometry condition in the database, those geometry structures are printed out.

  • Pd catalyst have been used in hydrogenation, oxidation, and low temperature combustion reaction. Recently, it has been candidated as a possible reagents in the partial oxidation of methanol reformers of the fuel cell. Pd catalysts, even though it is very precious and expensive, catalytic functioning is good, but it still need to be improved in the matter of durability and low catalytic activity after calcination. In this study, we synthesize the improved Pd catalyst and study their chemical functioning.

  • This study describes how successfully a conventional flame aerosol synthesis was used to continuously synthesize Pt-Ru catalysts supported by carbon agglomerates. Nearly spherical catalysts produced in the flame were mainly composed of metallic Pt and Ru with the molar ratio of 1:1 and those sizes were controllable from ~1.5 nm to ~2.0 nm. Nevertheless, only Pt peaks were found from X-ray diffraction experiments, suggesting that amorphous-like Ru was well mixed in the crystalline Pt lattices. It was found from Cyclo-voltamograms and CO stripping experiments that the electrochemical properties of the catalysts are at least comparable to that of a conventional commercial sample.

  • Measured sensor datum from a quadruped robotics is commonly used for recognizing physical environment information which controls the posture of robotics. We can advance the ambulation with this sensed information and need to synthesize various sensors for obtaining accurate data, but most of these sensors are expensive and require excessive load for the operation. Those defects can be serious problem when it comes to the prototype's practicality and mass production, and maintenance of the system. This paper suggests virtual sensor technology for avoiding previous defects and presents ways to apply a theory to a walking robotics through virtual sensor information which is trained with several kinds of actual sensor information from the prototype system; the general algorithm is initially based on the neural network theory of back propagation. In specific, we verified a possibility of replacing the virtual sensor with the actual one through a reaction force measurement experiment.
