  • Under 2009 Revised Mathematics Curriculum and 2015 Revised Mathematics Curriculum, mathematics teachers can help students inductively express real life problems related to sequences but have difficulties in dealing with problems asking the general terms of the sequences defined inductively due to 'Guidelines for Teaching and Learning'. Because most of textbooks mainly deal with the simple calculation for the sums of sequences, students tend to follow them rather than developing their inductive and deductive reasoning through finding patterns in the sequences. In this study, we reconstruct 8 problems to find the sums of sequences in MukSaJipSanBup which is known as one of the oldest mathematics book of Chosun Dynasty, using the terminology and symbols of the current curriculum. Such kind of problems can be given in textbooks and used for teaching and learning. Using problems in mathematical books of Chosun Dynasty with suitable modifications for teaching and learning is a good method which not only help students feel the usefulness of mathematics but also learn the cultural value of our traditional mathematics and have the pride for it.

  • The concept of variables is central to mathematics teaching and learning in junior and senior high school. Understanding the concept provides the basis for the transition from arithmetic to algebra and necessary for the meaningful use of all advanced mathematics. Despite the importance of the concept, however, much has been written in the last decade concerning students' difficulties with the concept. This Thesis is based on research to investigate the hypothesis that LOGO programming will contribute to 6th grader' learning of variables. The aim of the research were to; .investigate practice on pupils' understanding of variables before the activity with a computer; .identify functions of LOGO programming in pupils' using and understanding of variable symbols, variable domain and the relationship between two variable dependent expressions during the activity using a computer; .investigate the influence of pupils' mathematical belief on understanding and using variables. The research consisted predominantly of a case study of 6 pupils' discourse and activities concerning variable during their abnormal lessons and interviews with researcher. The data collected for this study included video recordings of the pupils'work with their spoken language.

  • The present study is carried out to examine the combined effect of heat absorption on flow model. The model consists of unsteady flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid. The flow is along an impulsively started oscillating vertical plate with variable mass diffusion. The magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the plate. The fluid model under consideration has been solved by Laplace transform technique. The numerical data obtained is discussed with the help of graphs and table. The numerical values obtained for skin-friction have been tabulated. To shorten the lengthy equations in the solution some symbols have been assumed, which are mentioned in appendix. The appendix is included in the article as the last section of the manuscript.

  • The Berezin symbol à of an operator A on the reproducing kernel Hilbert space 𝓗 (Ω) over some set Ω with the reproducing kernel kλ is defined by $${\tilde{A}}(\lambda)=\,\;{\lambda}{\in}{\Omega}$$. The Berezin number of an operator A is defined by $$ber(A):=\sup_{{\lambda}{\in}{\Omega}}{\mid}{\tilde{A}}({\lambda}){\mid}$$. We study some problems of operator theory by using this bounded function Ã, including estimates for Berezin numbers of some operators, including truncated Toeplitz operators. We also prove an operator analog of some Young inequality and use it in proving of some inequalities for Berezin number of operators including the inequality ber (AB) ≤ ber (A) ber (B), for some operators A and B on 𝓗 (Ω). Moreover, we give in terms of the Berezin number a necessary condition for hyponormality of some operators.

  • User requirements for access and authentication increase daily because of the diversification of the Internet of Things (IoT) and social structures. The increase in authentication needs requires the generation of new passwords. Users want to utilize the same passwords for memorization convenience. However, system administrators request each user to use different passwords, as well as passwords that include special symbols. Differnet passwords and including special symbols passwords seem to exceed the tolerance range within your memorization skills. It fetches a very negative consequences in terms of password management. This paper proposes a preference symbol password system that does not require memorization by users. First, a survey is conducted to prove statistical safety, and based on this, an evolution-type password system that uses preference symbols is designed. Preference symbol passwords show superiority with respect to installation cost and convenience, compared with conventional non-memorizing password systems such as biometrics, keystrokes, and mouse patterns.

  • Both curriculum and textbooks play an important role in the process of didactical transposition from mathematics as a science to school mathematics. The 2009 revised national curriculum for mathematics introduced the system of grade-band, so its achievement criteria for mathematical contents tend to be addressed more and less generally in the curriculum. We need to investigate whether the achievement criteria were applied meaningfully in elementary textbooks for mathematics. This study aims to recognize the connection between the curriculum and the textbooks and make a suggestion for composing the following curriculum and its textbooks. To do this, we analyzed the mathematics textbooks for 1~2 grades in relation to the mathematical contents as per reconstructed one of curriculum achievement criteria, the mathematical terms and symbols, and the mathematical processes -mathematical problem solving, mathematical reasoning, mathematical communication. Based this analysis, futhermore, this study includes some didactical discussions and implications for development of mathematics textbooks in 3~4 and 5~6 grade-bands.

  • The concepts of ratio and proportion are familiar with students but have difficulties in use. The purpose of this paper is to identify the meanings of the concepts of ratio and proportion through investigating the historical development process of the meanings and representations of them. The early meanings of ratio and proportion were arithmetical meanings, however, geometrical meanings had taken the place of them because of the discovery of incommensurability. After the development of algebraic representation, the meanings of ratio and proportion have been growing into algebraic meanings including arithmetical and geometrical meanings. Through the historical development process of ratio and proportion, it is observable that the meanings of mathematical concepts affect development of symbols, and the development of symbols also affect the meanings of mathematical concepts.

  • In [6], it was shown that hyponormality for Toeplitz operators with polynomial symbols can be reduced to classical Schur's algorithm in function theory. In [6], Zhu has also given the explicit values of the Schur's functions ${\Phi}_0$, ${\Phi}_1$ and ${\Phi}_2$. Here we explicitly evaluate the Schur's function ${\Phi}_3$. Using this value we find necessary and sufficient conditions under which the Toeplitz operator $T_{\varphi}$ is hyponormal, where ${\varphi}$ is a trigonometric polynomial given by ${\varphi}(z)$ = ${\sum}^N_{n=-N}a_nz_n(N{\geq}4)$ and satisfies the condition $\bar{a}_N\(\array{a_{-1}\\a_{-2}\\a_{-4}\\{\vdots}\\a_{-N}}\)=a_{-N}\;\(\array{\bar{a}_1\\\bar{a}_2\\\bar{a}_4\\{\vdots}\\\bar{a}_N}\)$. Finally we illustrate the easy applicability of the derived results with a few examples.

  • The ill-posed elliptic wave propagation problems can be transformed into well-posed initial value problems of the reflection and transmission operators characterizing the material structure of the given model by the combination of wave field splitting and invariant imbedding methods. In general, the derived scattering operator equations are of first-order in range, nonlinear, nonlocal, and stiff and oscillatory with a subtle fixed and movable singularity structure. The phase space and path integral analysis reveals that construction and reconstruction algorithms depend crucially on a detailed symbol analysis of the scattering operators. Some information about the singularity structure of the scattering operator symbols is presented and analyzed in the transversely homogeneous limit.
